Are you sending your kids to school Monday?

Yes, No or Maybe answers only please.

As the WHO have now criticised the UK Government's strategy; death rates today doubled and we simply have no idea of the actual numbers of cases due to very limited testing. I'm seriously considering following the advice of WHO and most other European governments and self-isolating me and the kids from Monday.

Yes

theskyispurple · 15/03/2020 20:10

I'm not sending mine in, I want to be honest with the headteacher as to why. However my DH is a governor so wants me to send the kids in because 'the government says its safe'
I may tell School that kids have a cough to appease him Hmm

Evenquieterlife33 · 15/03/2020 20:15

Confirmed case of a primary school child in our area tonight, child is well but has been in hospital and returned home. This has lead to people on group chat saying that they are keeping kids home tomorrow now.

blinkowl · 15/03/2020 20:20

I'm considering it but also wondering if now is a better time to get it than in a couple of weeks, as what I really don't want is us all getting it when the hospital's can't cope. Unless we're already on the cusp of that?

How long is the incubation period?

EastCoastDamsel · 15/03/2020 20:23

Nope

colouringinpro · 15/03/2020 20:26

No. My ds now has a cough and feels rough....

Not for a few days whilst my elderly parents are visiting. What is the score with schools and fines?

EastCoastDamsel · 15/03/2020 20:30

The incubation period is 2-21 days
Average 5.2. Usually admission is only at Day 10ish.

It is already too late. The doubling time is 2-3days so in 10 days time case will be (minimum 5x higher than today) circa 6500. This is the levels at which Italy started seeing a breakdown of their health services.

No way arey children going to school tomorrow

BatSegundo · 15/03/2020 20:55

No

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 15/03/2020 21:40

I wondered about it being better to get it now while hospitals have oxygen....

Also if a hild has a cough does that mean theyre being treated as if they have the virus ie we all need to stay in or just the child. If just the child isnt that fairly pointles...

WattsandAwl · 15/03/2020 22:13

If you have no elderly people or underlying health problems in your household, why would you keep you children off school?

maadlady · 15/03/2020 22:17

Yes, as he is well, his school is still open, thankfully, Easter Break not far off. He only has two high school years left and with the pressure his peers and staff are already under, I want him to be in school where there are less distractions and teaching staff. Unless he ends up with Bubonic plague or similar or there isenforced closure.he goes into school. Im aware Covid-19 is deadly serious, maybe less so for my sons age group or maybe not less. Who knows 100%? but I am trying to keep rational about
things. I just wonder how we managed to go through 2 world wars, and rebuild the country given the catastrophic affects on life and loss of it, yet get in a flap over loo rolls.

yatapina · 15/03/2020 22:42

@maadlady I'm not sure people are keeping children at home due to lack of toilet roll 🤔

yatapina · 15/03/2020 22:47

@SquashedFlyBiscuit I discussed this with the Corona hotline on Saturday - they've said it's only those who show symptoms.

My DD has had a persistent, dry cough since Tuesday so she's off but they've advised we've to carry on as normal despite me working with extremely vulnerable people, DH working with the public and teen DS mingling with his friends at school... It's bizarre and makes no sense to me!

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 15/03/2020 23:06

I thought so but that makes no sense whatsoever does it. It used ti be if you had contact with someone with it you self isolated for 7 days, so now you can live with someone who is home because of it and continue ti spread it!?
