Chemo. No hospital bed for DH.

So DH’s medical team say he needs an inpatient bed now.
We’re stuck in the outpatients hotel and no bed forthcoming because of corona. He’s rapidly becoming neutropenic and there are no beds available.
This is actually happening today, now. I am stressed beyond belief.

I’m so sorry to hear this: didn’t want to read and not comment, but haven’t anything useful to say.

woodencoffeetable · 13/03/2020 14:01

can he get treatment where he is?

sorry to hear about your dh, I really hope a solution can be found quickly.

OneOfTheGrundys · 13/03/2020 14:02

Thank you.
The DCs are being cared for by grandparents (not ideal) and DH is really poorly.
I’m going out of my mind.

I'm so sorry. You must be beside yourself. Do you have anyone nearby who you can talk to?

HollowTalk · 13/03/2020 14:03

That must be incredibly stressful for you all. Could they move him to another hospital?

evilharpy · 13/03/2020 14:04

Flowers poor him, and you. What a horrible situation. I very much hope he's not kept waiting long for treatment.

Weregoingonanadventure · 13/03/2020 14:04

Have you asked about other hospitals? Not every hospital is full of coronavirus. Is it at all possible to transport him to a hospital with a bed free?

AutumnRose1 · 13/03/2020 14:09

I'm so sorry OP

is this some kind of bureaucratic rule about keeping beds free "just in case" or is the whole hospital literally full?

Have you had a chance to talk to PALS?

Potkettlexx · 13/03/2020 14:12

This can’t be right? You poor family. Coronavirus isn’t anywhere near peak yet. How can he nit be getting cared for

Confuzzled123 · 13/03/2020 14:13

This is terrible. Flowers thinking of you. Xx

woodencoffeetable · 13/03/2020 14:16

yes, talk to his healthcare team if he can be cared for at the hotel. talk to pals.
good luck!

FuzzyPuffling · 13/03/2020 14:17

PMed you.

daisypond · 13/03/2020 14:17

I’m very sorry to hear this. I’m having cancer treatment too, and I’m very anxious about bed availability. I was actively told two weeks ago there was a delay for surgery because of lack of beds - and it’s going to get worse.

NeverTwerkNaked · 13/03/2020 14:18

I am so so sorry. I believe wards are being cleared to make way for the inevitable influx of coronavirus patients but obviously can't say if that applies to your hospital.

I hope they find him a bed soon.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/03/2020 14:18

This is terrible! I hope he can be taken in at another hospital or a bed found.

PestyMachtubernahme · 13/03/2020 14:21

Flowers our local hospital reckons they have about a week of near normality. Hope he gets one soon.

littlejalapeno · 13/03/2020 14:21

I’m so sorry. My mum has had hers cancelled too.
Who and where is his doctor? You must have direct contact details? He needs an emergency consultation and antibiotics ASAP. Thinking of you OP

Aria20 · 13/03/2020 14:21

I hope your husband gets his treatment soon. What area are you?

My 85 year old nan had an operation this morning in SE London and is still on a theatre bed, no normal beds or ward space available - they should have cancelled the op! I'm concerned she is going to catch something while there! Unfortunately I can't visit or help in anyway as husband and 2 of my children have corona symptoms so we've been self isolating and I now have a sore throat and start of a cough so unlikely I can visit next week either!

OneOfTheGrundys · 13/03/2020 14:22

Thank you.
I’ve just emailed his ‘big’ consultant. He doesn’t have cancer but another very life limiting illness. This treatment was meant to prolong his life. The drs in the (lovely, very caring) outpatient unit today told us to avoid A&E completely. But also that if there were no beds he’d have to go in a single room in A&E.
I’m so stressed.

Sorry this is happening to you. Any chance of getting him to another hospital? Flowers

JeepersC · 13/03/2020 14:24

How awful. I am so angry with this stupid virus. It's a curse

inmylifeIlovedthemall · 13/03/2020 14:27

It might be worth asking if the local Hospice could find him a bed?

Although Hospices are perceived as being only available for end of life care that is not always the case. They often offer respite care to people with life limiting illnesses and may possibly be able to help you in this scenario.

Honeywort · 13/03/2020 14:32

So sorry this is happening. I guess a single room inA&E is very different from the general a&e though so perhaps that will be an acceptable solution? When my dear dad had lung cancer we did end up in those type of rooms once while waiting for a bed and it was completely separate from the main a and e department.

Thinking of you and how unfair this all is xx

AmIAPenguin · 13/03/2020 14:33

I’m so so sorry OP. Can they send a DN out to give him the treatment he needs? Sending you so much love. Have you got enough supplies? Is there anything any of us can drop at reception for you?

champagneandfromage50 · 13/03/2020 14:35

My DH was in ITU due to neutropenic sepsis in January. They had difficulties with beds then and were looking at private single rooms. Has he started treatment yet? Dont let delays prevent the commencement of that
