Self isolation support thread

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

I’m day 2 of self isolation. I’ve got a tight chest and struggling to take a deep breath, intermittent cough, painful joints, headache and hot flashes that come and go.
We’ve got enough food to keep us going for 3 weeks (allbeit lucky dip for 1 of those weeks). I’ve got ibuprofen and cocodamol, but no paracetamol so I’m trying not to take anything for now. 4 toilet rolls and 2 packs of water wipes Smile
I’m not sure what I’ve got but I’m erring on the side of caution because my eldest DD is severely immuno compromised (doesn’t live with us, thank goodness) and she’s been told to self isolate apart from her oncology appointments.
I’ve got a big bag of wool in so I’ve ordered some crochet hooks and am going to teach youngest DD to crochet squares and we’re going to make a corona blanket.

Wilko don't seem to have run out of either loo roll or anti back wipes. My social worker just left some by our front door.

If anyone needs help with a meal plan, using what they have, I'm good at things like that. (You know the world is fucked when you consider letting a vegan anorexic help with a meal plan...but the offer is there 😂)

Onward Plagueful Soldiers!

ShrimpyTheGnome · 18/03/2020 13:02

Smile Epsom salts may help with the joint pain/back ache. Make sure you sip water throughout though. Hydration during The Plague is vital.

Wine is one of your five a day, surely!

Want a giggle?

I'm an alcoholic. I haven't touched a drop for over a year now, but I'm finding it hilarious that some people would look down more on me for not keeping hand sanitizer in the house, than if I was still downing spirits like they were water (and would have probably have attacked the hand sanitizer too if I'd run out of spirits!) Soooo...do they want me to buy vodka, or not? 😂😂😂😂

To encourage my two with the whole hand washing thing, I got them making their own, individual hand washes, with castille soap and essential oils. And DS1 created one for me which smells just like Turkish Delight!

Theodoreb · 18/03/2020 13:52

We all enjoy music so are listening to music right now while getting on with chores then after chores we are all going to play monopoly fingers crossed my kids don't kill each other over this game nowGrinGrin

We don't have hand sanitizer we just been using soap hoping that's enough

MinnieMountain · 18/03/2020 14:38

We've been in since Sunday as DS has a cough (and a very snotty nose).

DH is now convinced that he and I have The Lurgy.

I'm counting down the days until the coming Sunday when DS can go to MIL's on his bike for a bit. She lives alone and isn't in an at risk group, so it will be good for her too.

wildcherries · 18/03/2020 14:49

Checking back in with good thoughts for everyone. This morning I woke up seemingly symptom-free. 10 days it took. I hope it can give some of you some hope.

We're still in lockdown, so it won't make much practical difference, but I feel a little lighter.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 18/03/2020 14:52

wild it's so good to hear that someone is coming toward the end of this! There's hope for all the Plague Army now 😂

We're on day 5. My DS is up and down. Temp is better but has a nasty cough and irritable and unsettled. Feeling a bit trapped especially having a newborn as well.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 18/03/2020 15:03

Smile no but I've read The Stand by Stephen King, so I consider myself an expert on Superflus now. 😂

Lcw I can only imagine that the trapped feeling sucks donkey balls. Even moving is a chore for me rn, so I'm not too bothered about the whole "not going out" thing...but my DC are. It must seem terribly unfair to the symptomless among us having to be stuck in with the sick ones! 😢

The movie is about six hours long.

And I'm rereading it too.

If this is the start of a zombie apocalypse or some shit, I'll be ok: the geeky one never gets killed!

Yup! Absolutely stand behind us. Although I'm only 4'10 and probably weigh about 12lb at present, so I'd make a shit shield...use me as a stick to beat the fuckers off instead! Just watch the hair, yeah? 😂

BertieDrapper · 18/03/2020 15:27

Haven't RTFT but needed to jump on.

Been isolating for 6 days as DD was very ill over the weekend. Still has a chesty cough but is fine in herself. She is 4.

DH is WFH but long hours 8-8 most days and worked over the weekend. I'm really struggling mentally, I can barely talk to my DD or DH anymore. I want to shut myself in one room and not hear from anyone at all
I can't go for a wee without being called for.
Can't finish a thought without being wanted or needed.
The tantrums and attitude from her are ridiculous.
I know she's fed up of being in doors and so am I

But really do not know how to get through the next week like this.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 18/03/2020 15:29

Oh shit...the one who cares about her hair always dies first!

I'm fucked.

Please distribute my toilet rolls between yourselves, and sing "All The Small Things" at my funeral! 😂

In view of my age and health issues I decided to self isolate although fortunately have had no symptoms. I cancelled the cleaner, allowed the gardener to come because she has access down the side of the house, left money on patio chair so no contact.

Then my internet decided to cut out intermittently and got so bad had to phone the provider. They confirmed there was a problem and sent out an engineer. Didn't fix it, so sent out a second.... the third one arrived this morning and spent two hours fixing it. So much for isolation but kept my distance and fingers crossed and wiping down all the surfaces he may have touched.

I thankfully live alone but who thinks divorce and murder rates may rise over the coming weeks/months Grin
