Quote Boris Johnson.

Lots of people will die.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 17:29

How are we supposed to digest and accept this.

OP posts:
Kuponut · 12/03/2020 17:30

What choice do we have? We have no choice but to accept it really.

aprilhope · 12/03/2020 17:32

What choice is there? He can't magic up a cure

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/03/2020 17:34

The theory about flattening the curve was excellent but we don't seem to be actually doing anything to achieve it. We could be doing a lot more social distancing but no let's just let people die instead.

HopelesslyMe · 12/03/2020 17:34

I feel like we should be taking more drastic action now to prevent this getting completely out of hand!

MrsGrindah · 12/03/2020 17:34

What do you mean by accept? We should believe him yes. Not try to do our bit? Absolutely no. You sound as if you think it’s someone’s fault and you want to complain.

Theyrecomingtotakemeawayhaha · 12/03/2020 17:35

Because it is true. You may not accept it now but you will have it starkly Infront of you in the next month.
My elderly mother is s distancing herself as she know that f she gets it that's it.Im hoping I don't get it before Easter so that I get to see her. We're talking on the phone a lot as we realise our time may be limited.

defthand · 12/03/2020 17:36

We won’t take drastic action because we are afraid of people getting “lonely”.

NeverTwerkNaked · 12/03/2020 17:36

That's Boris announcing his "take it on the chin" policy he hinted at earlier in the week

CKoRn · 12/03/2020 17:36

They're trying to minimise the negative impact on the economy more than minimise preventable deaths from CV.

It's a shitty balancing act - they're just trying to peddle it to the public in a more "digestable" form.

mbosnz · 12/03/2020 17:36

That belongs firmly in the 'no shit Sherlock' file.

mbosnz · 12/03/2020 17:36

I mean, talk about Minister of The Bleeding Obvious.

NeverTwerkNaked · 12/03/2020 17:37

And yes, they are clearly prioritising the economy over people's 'loved ones"

daisypond · 12/03/2020 17:37

Sadly, people are told they are going to die before their time every day. This is just another way of dying. There is no cure. The government could do more, though.

Summersunandoranges · 12/03/2020 17:37

What drastic action can we take? It’s not even at full force yet so no point in isolating as the main hit will be April/May. We literally can stay in doors till then.

I am really worried about this as I will probably lose my grandmother who has already just fought off pneumonia but she can’t self isolate for four months.

MrsGrindah · 12/03/2020 17:42

We do need to consider the economy though. If the disruption is as prolonged as they are saying it’s a huge impact on so many economic levels. And that’s necessary in saving lives too.

Graphista · 12/03/2020 17:50

So so much wrong with how the whole mess is being handled AND reported.

10 confirmed deaths - but how many recent deaths with similar symptoms haven’t been tested? Even post mortem?

596 confirmed cases - but again if comprehensive testing isn’t occurring that could well be a big underestimation.

I think even Sir Patrick valance’s estimates may be conservative.

Frankly based on the bbc report Johnson has pretty much done/said sod all!

Italy has a better equipped and smoother running healthcare system than we do and are a similar size population wise. Utterly foolish not to learn from them - mistakes and lessons.

I’m already pretty isolated but I’m concerned for others in particular my own loved ones I’ve at least 3 relatives I’m very concerned about.

MONEY BEFORE PEOPLE

As bloody always with the tories!

The only possibly silver lining (and yes I’d rather Johnson and govt acted competently instead) is that their mishandling of this will finally disillusion people about this govt, especially as the cuts to the nhs are now going to have a much more direct effect on many who are normally able to stay relatively well.

“We do need to consider the economy though” consider? - yes prioritise over peoples lives? No!

Plus the economy will take a much greater hit if as I strongly suspect this is merely delaying not only the inevitable but by the time things like closing schools, cancelling large group gatherings, closing shops and entertainment venues IS enacted it may need to be in place for longer than if they did it now.

THAT will damage the economy more.

Graphista · 12/03/2020 17:54

Ideally meant to say we should really be learning from places like Germany and India who seem to be coping better

MrsGrindah · 12/03/2020 17:54

I disagree that they are prioritising it over peoples lives. Panicking and TYPING IN CAPITALS won’t help anyone either. Most people will have family members they are worried about but we have to listen to our Governments most senior medical advisers. This is new to everyone remember.

AlphaJura · 12/03/2020 17:55

You can do what you can though? Limit social contact, keep an eye on elderly but be extra cautious, maybe only one person who visits them? Cancel unecessary engagements. Those who can work from home or can accommodate kids being off do it. Every measure can slow it down and stop it peaking too severely. Personally I think they should be doing more, but on an individual level there are things people can do. People need to ask around and club together to see if school kids can be looked after, maybe share and swap with a friend who is also a parent. Keep enforcing good hygiene habits.

willowpatterns · 12/03/2020 17:56

I agree with what they said about the elderly actually. My MIL is in her mid 90's and she currently lives independently at home with a certain amount of support from family (both practical and emotional). Even without getting ill, if she were to be denied that support she wouldn't last long.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 12/03/2020 17:57

We knew.

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 17:57

Relative had non weight baring injury and was pretty much confined to a room for 3 months.

Read, watched TV etc.

What's the fucking problem. Give them the choice.
No action taken at all to flatten peaks.
Nothing to encourage or penalise people who go into work coughing.

theendoftheendoftheend · 12/03/2020 17:58

I thought their reasonings sounded perfectly plausible

GiveHerHellFromUs · 12/03/2020 18:01

You don't like that he's telling the truth and if he sugarcoated it you'd call him a liar. What do you want him to do?
