I understand people needing to believe that our government ‘got this’ though

Act like your infected, not avoiding infection. Wash your hands like you don’t want to transmit it. Think about your contacts - do you want to infect them? Our fight, our responsibility #Covid_19

We had just finished filming an interview for @BBCNewsnight with @katierazz and the producer @StuartDenman said this. It was so good I decided that I would say it instead, so they reset

Confusedandtired we are doing the same as of today.

MarshaBradyo we aren't de-registering, yet. We have kept the dc off today and will say they seem unwell/tonsillitus/whatever.

Monday morning they will have a fever/cough. 7 days off.

Monday after that I will have fever/cough so cannot get them to school.

That takes us to the Easter holiday.

So I figure that gives us four weeks of self isolation. We will wait to see how bad this is going to get. If the schools are still open after easter then I will de-reg. I previously would have added 'if things get better we won't' but that is clearly an impossibility.

Jeremy hunt looked absolutely terrified last night, it helped sway my elderly dm to take action now rather than waiting thankfully.

QueenofmyPrinces · 13/03/2020 06:54

If you are totally honest, if you have a job where you can't work from home, would you really feel able to ring up this morning and say "I've got a mild cough so I can't come in?"

My husband is a teacher and due to the nature of his role it is possible to work from home.

He has a 3 day history of a bad, persistent cough and headaches and feeling generally unwell etc so last night he said that follow the latest advice he would need to stay off work. Not a real problem as like I said, he can work from home.

However, he has woken up to lot six tests from his Boss basically telling him that he has to go in - and so he has.

I imagine my employer would go pretty crazy if I said I wasn’t coming in just because I had a cough - the majority of my colleagues have a cough/cold/runny nose type symptoms and if we call called in sick it would be a total nightmare.

Realistically the plan just isn’t going to work.

@Reastie, it would be more helpful if our approach was the same as the rest of the world. It definitely is more likely to reoccur in countries where they are locking down, if we are over here growing a whole country of people with the virus, under no travel restrictions

Not at all. I am a teacher too. Presenteeism is a major thing.

tbh I would send the reluctant employer the official advice, which is very clear.

I m going through logical, non logical explanations and after taking the whole situation into one pic - to me it just looks like this virus was developed to reduce population..
Maybe only originally in China, but than it leaked out .. now it suits them as it kills the weak and elderly people so perfect for them..( I’m one of them and I did not plan on dying before the age of 60 , sadly it looks like it will happen..
I’m sorry peeps but that’s what it looks like..

Their argument was that DH doesn’t have w temperature and so it can’t be COVID19. Which to be fair, is listed as one of the main symptoms. So he’s reluctantly gone off to work.....

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 06:59

Hom no it doesn’t. Take it elsewhere. Reddit conspiracies or something.

@Janemarpling, wfh in our organisation is commonplace. Most people do it on a regular basis YET people aren’t doing it because of CV. I haven’t gone in this week at all, but I am expected in next week. We have all prepared so that we can wfh if we are told to shut down (updated laptops, shared contact details etc,) but it won’t happen unless there is government direction to do so 😡

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 07:01

It’s new persistent cough or temperature.

Reiterate the govt advice to them.

And this is what is wrong with this country and the governments advice. We have such a hang up about presenteeism and people get so arsey when you call in sick that people will just go in anyway. A lot of bosses give "the sigh" when you call in sick and make it out to be the end of the world. The government should of been stronger on this advice.

I have just had 2 weeks off ill (not corona related). Can you imagine if I now called in with a cough and temp? I would be on a performance review.
