Why doesn't the government provide the childcare? Hire a church hall or sports centre, parents can drop off en route? Am I missing something?

Bearbehind · 12/03/2020 21:55

And yes, I'm shouting, because they work, and we're not doing it. The sooner we apply containment, the sooner, and the lower, we peak.

Sorry, I forgot you know more than all of the UK medical experts

SubjectMatterExpert · 12/03/2020 21:56

I agree @DrBlackbird

nellodee · 12/03/2020 21:56

No, but I DO seem to know more than the ones advising Boris. Or maybe they just don't have the balls to speak out against his bad decisions.

SubjectMatterExpert · 12/03/2020 21:57

Umm, yes @Number12, you are! Grin are you joking, I can’t tell?

SubjectMatterExpert · 12/03/2020 21:58

@nellodee, I think there is truth that the incumbents are towing the line. Many experts no longer in prominent positions speaking out to say that the government should be taking more action

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 12/03/2020 21:59

Can we stop talking about having the balls?

Like it's soooo great to have balls.

It's not an achievement, all sorts of people have balls.

Plenty don't too.

It's getting on my tits Grin

Fannia · 12/03/2020 21:59

number12 If you provide childcare in a hall you might as well just open the school.

Random18 · 12/03/2020 21:59

nellodee you do not know more than the experts. End of.

We still don't even know if the measures China, Italy, ireland etc are taking will be successful long term.

emsy86 · 12/03/2020 22:00

I think the main thing that makes us different from places that have had successful lock downs is that we don't have any defined huge clusters it's pretty evenly spread.. Its easier to isolate part of the country than it is to lock down the whole country!

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/03/2020 22:01

But what happens once you stop containing? Isn't that the point? You contain with full lockdown now but unless you are prepared to maintain full lockdown for 6+ months it can resurge afterwards.

Even if you did contain for 6+ months you would then have a situation where there is no immunity at all.

Thunderpunt · 12/03/2020 22:01

The thing is - no one is saying we won't follow Italy and other countries leads to shut down schools and limit social interaction at some point, we may well do when the time is right, we know we are 'behind' so it's possible these things will happen just later....

WhyNotMe40 · 12/03/2020 22:04

Doing childcare in a hall is very different from having schools open.
For a start vulnerable members of staff could protect themselves.
Fewer kids as some could stay home.
Older students don't need childcare - and even if they don't stay home they will just hang out in friendship groups, not be exposed shoulder to shoulder scrum of the other 2000 students and staff...

DrBlackbird · 12/03/2020 22:04

Bear, will you or I call up the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, S Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kuwait, Slovakia .... to reassure them they've been wasting their time and resources and that there is no need to test because you've said so? Grin

DrBlackbird · 12/03/2020 22:05

Btw, if the gov't says businesses have to close, then yes, staff still get paid. I don't think the insurance broker who informed us of this today was joking.

nellodee · 12/03/2020 22:06

I'm sick of people saying, "Janet from mumsnet thinks she knows more than the experts."

You know what, I'm not putting up my own research against the statements from the government's experts. I'm quoting OTHER experts who disagree with them. Lots and lots and lots of other experts.

Video footage on our local fb group of ambulances parked outside a local home, with a person in full white coverup suit and face mask going into the building.

Of course, there could be another reason, but the fb group is taking it to mean that it's CV19 here in the town. Esp as the local hospital is in Wrexham, where a case was identified today with no known travel to have caused the infection.

And I can read. I can follow the research. I can source the pdfs. I can analyse the stats. I'm not saying "my pal on Facebook sez she knows a doctor." I'm providing evidence and citations, which is more than the bloody government are doing.

Horehound · 12/03/2020 22:09

@nellodee well go give it to Boris.

WouldShouldCould · 12/03/2020 22:09

DrBlackbird and who is going to pay the wages. Most small businesses have very tight cash flow, and if they couldn't get money in, wouldn't be able to pay wages out.

Crack on dr

They all seem to be focusing their efforts elsewhere anyway

Reporting ever increasing affected numbers for a virus there’s no cure for achieves nothing IMO

And I totally see the logic in not locking down too early

These threads are littered with people who want this to go away as long as it doesn’t inconvenience or cost them a penny

How long do you think we can maintain a lockdown for?

And how will it help to have so few with any immunity to this?

Random18 · 12/03/2020 22:11

Let's start a petition to replace Witty with Nellodee.
She can read.............

I'm not even saying the uK approach is right. I don't know. I don't think anyone really does.

All I can do is pray that it is.
