I’m off the thread now, it’s all getting very silky and some people need to grow up and take responsibility for themselves.

You know when you have a cough and feel rough.

You can make your own decision on whether to send your kids in a trip, or if the money - which is already gone and paid for is worth it

You so t be self isolating for weeks or moths, it’s 7 days of feeling crap!

Delaying measures are good. Social distancing is also good. If you don’t know how social distancing works, here’s a photo that will make it easier for you!

TLDR for those who would like not to read this thread.

  1. Everyone on this thread seems to have a compromised immune system
  1. Everyone wants clarity on what they should do but then would like to argue with those recommendations
  1. Everyone on this thread seems to think they're going to part of the 20% modelled as getting sick and dying
  1. This thread does not like probability. Yet, they love talking about what will "probably happen" for example, needing the army 🧐
  1. Don't seem to get their kids are going to get this virus, but be mostly unaffected, and this will happen if they're in school or not.
  1. That its not possible to "be like China" and lock down cities because to do that they would have most of the rights and civil liberties they presently enjoy taken away (like whining on mumsnet... tencent the company that owns wechat actually blocked the ability to reference anything to do with viruses in January).
  1. Fretting on mumsnet won't stop the virus. Wash you god damn hands and listen to the government.

Think thats a pretty decent summary.

Plantherd · 12/03/2020 20:52

I do wonder about getting children into school if a parent is self isolating?

Would other parents be happy to take in someone elses and drop home knowing you are home with a cough or fever?

cologne4711 · 12/03/2020 20:52

how is not putting in any containment measures going to slow it down

this is what is confusing me too. I was out running today and we were discussing this but I didn't understand the explanation!

One of the guys is a travel agent and says it's a nightmare with having to unbook cruises for his over 70s clients and get people home from Vietnam who are having their visas revoked. Also Czech republic.

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 20:52

grapefruits

Exactly!. Clear cut measures!

People feel obliged to work! Help us to do the sensible thing!
Yy to checking temps on way into school.
Clear cut guidelines.

cologne4711 · 12/03/2020 20:53

Everyone on this thread seems to have a compromised immune system

Everyone on MN seems to have a compromised immune system. See any chicken pox thread.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 20:55

I thought the whole family had to self isolate if the parent was? So no school run

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 20:55

@santoslhalperrr ,
why not listen to the UN
The best science tells us, if countries detect, test, treat, isolate, trace and mobilize their people in the response, we can go a long way to mitigating transmission.

I call on every government to step up and scale up their efforts – now.

or the WHO

?

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 20:58

For duck.

What if our bosses don't really believe in the virus and think it's app nonsense and will make us feel obliged to work.

How can those of us in education socially distance when sitting next to and working closely with students every day Confused

That's what many teachers are trying to say?
Stuffy small staff rooms and offices?

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 20:59

Marsha they said...

They won't ask families to all isolate at this stage. It would be too much to ask the UK family.

frumpety · 12/03/2020 21:00

I would like to know the average length of time a person is vented for before recovering or sadly passing away from Covid -19 ?

Exochord · 12/03/2020 21:02

So will the UK no longer publish daily figures since they’re no longer testing anyone except hospital admissions? Italy is still publishing daily figures therefore is still testing - so why aren’t we?

Plantherd · 12/03/2020 21:02

@MarshaBradyo
Oh I thought that wasnt happening yet for everyone to self isolate just told that it will happen in the coming weeks.
For now, just the person who has a fever or cough?!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 12/03/2020 21:04

Gosh all the aggression and namechanges come out after dark don't they?
Evening to the sane regulars anyway.

Italy's peak is expected on 3rd April. And yes, total lockdown only began on Tuesday morning and even more total lockdown today. Neither of which are total total lockdown. People work, shop for food and medicine and take their dogs out. Wearing masks and gloves if you've got them and carrying a self cert explaining why you are going.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 21:06

Oh right yeh could be

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 21:07

Our children seem to spread the virus most quickly,..

Macron.

Horehound · 12/03/2020 21:07

Yes, name changers are awash!

These threads are getting tedious now.
This is when Mumsnet gets a bad name because when any 'outsider' comes on and reads this pish they think we are all frantic lions that can't understand anything

Ffs people. Get a grip!

Namechanger20183110 · 12/03/2020 21:07

@RedToothBrush so Italy has the worst record for washing hands in Europe, with France and Spain not far behind?

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/03/2020 21:08

It is a strange feeling, being in a country where your Government gives novel advice (is now really a good time for Cummings to pull another blinder?)

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 21:08

Plant herd that is right.

Only the person with the cough. Confused

There is science behind this.

Horehound · 12/03/2020 21:09

I dread to think if we were ever called to help in the event of a war.

Cries of "oh no I can't, I'm immunosuppressed" chiming from every household in the UK..

RedToothBrush · 12/03/2020 21:09

Everyone on this thread seems to think they're going to part of the 20% modelled as getting sick and dying

Tbf 20% is a high percentage.

Everyone on this thread seems to have a compromised immune system

Tbf anyone with a compromised immune system is liable to be particularly worried and therefore more likely to be taking part in this thread than the average person. Also see above about 20% being high percentage. Its not just immune compromised either. It's comorbid conditions generally.

Personally for me I have a grandmother in her 90s who lives in sheltered accommodation, two uncles who have heart conditions (mums side), my dad who has a heart condition and diabetes, a uncle (dad's side) with diabetes, my step grandmother in generally very poor health and my FIL who has diabetes. All but one are retired and over 65. That's 7 people in my immediate family who have serious issues which put them at higher risk than the general population. Running through the stats it's more likely than not I will lose at least one family member in the next couple of months, if I look at the death rate by age and the importance of comorbidity.

That's not a pleasant thought.

That doesn't even take into consideration that my mother has asthma as does my brother.

Nor whether the high number of family members on both sides having heart related issues bode badly for me (I'm fit though have a long term cough I can't shift)

I think this is reason enough to be pretty concerned without being mocked as being unable to assess risk.

Reality is if I assess risk properly it gets pretty grim very quickly for my family.

Others on the thread will have similar situations.

It's entirely possible given where risk is stacked I could lose a lot of family members in quick succession.

Fourducksate · 12/03/2020 21:09

@FacingtheAbess

I work in a University, I sit in lectures with a whole load of coughing sniffing, second year nursing students, who have just come in from placements for lectures.

I too work in small stuffy classrooms for seminars. They all think it’s ‘just the flu’ too.

I'm also self employed, no sick pay for me, if I don’t work I don’t get paid.

But that’s the nature of beast, just accept you’re likely to get it. I’m mid 50s on tablets for high blood pressure, so it’s not exactly a walk in the park for me! Get over it.
