Does anyone actually have the virus?

With all the talk and speculation on these boards and with thousands on here everyday, may I ask if anyone on her actually has the virus?

Interesting question, id love to know as well.
I don’t know anyone personally and I don’t have it myself but there must be someone who has it, even if only mild symptoms?

SelfIsolating · 12/03/2020 16:51

Mentioned on a similar thread I have all the symptoms but can't get tested because I haven't been abroad or in contact with someone else who already has a positive test. So have been told to self isolate until recovered.

So no one will confirm if I have it, but I can tell you what I do have is bloody grim. Think there are a few here in similar situations.

Haven't seen anyone here posting who's had a positive test yet.

SixesandEights · 12/03/2020 16:57

I've got symptoms but no idea if it's corona or something else. I decided to do the social distancing for a fortnight anyway no matter what the government says we should do.

HairySandwiches · 12/03/2020 16:58

Why aren’t they all losing you ton have etc tested? Surely is doesn’t matter if you haven’t been to those couturiers or in contact with anyone.
If someone you don’t even know has it unknowingly has been around you/coughed near you then you are at risk? That’s mental.
I’m so sorry they won’t test and hope you’re better soon and it’s just a bad cold.

HairySandwiches · 12/03/2020 17:00

Oh dear! I really should proof read before I post. 🙈
That first sentance
Why aren’t they letting you get tested?

HulaHoop2 · 12/03/2020 17:04

I’m not in the UK or anywhere near the worst affected places but I do have the symptoms. Could just be a normal virus but it feels different this time somehow. I’ve thought about asking to be tested but I think they’d probably dismiss me as a hypochondriac!

OnceUponACat · 12/03/2020 17:05

I agree that it is ridiculous and it happens all the time. To Only test those who have been in contact or in certain country is madness at this point. I for example came back from Italy after the half term (with NO symptoms) but in the following week i have been to the gp, the dentist, the hospital and at work. All pre-booked routine apt I haste to add. If I was a positive carrier...

It is insane to not test more.

aprilhope · 12/03/2020 17:08

I know someone who has the virus. Now recovering well.

Am not sure why people are so hung up on testing. If I had the symptoms I'd self isolate and just assume that I had the virus. And hope for the best...

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 12/03/2020 17:09

The figures we have are a big underestimate then given they are only testing a minority.

MsMeowington · 12/03/2020 17:10

My friend's dh is in the same position as the poster above who is displaying symptoms of it, has barely moved from bed for days, is getting worse by the day but he can't be tested because he doesn't fit their criteria ie. hasn't been to China or Italy recently. The GP won't see him until he's been tested. A&E won't accept him. No medical professional will examine him and he's now struggling for breath and coughing up bright red blood. Regardless of whether it's Coronavirus or not, this is a man who needs to see a doctor and no one will go near him because he's either not been tested or because he doesn't meet the criteria for testing. It's a fucking shambles.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 12/03/2020 17:10

April, because if just that person is self isolating (not their children, spouse etc) then they could be putting vulnerable people at risk. I find it a bit strange that we don’t want more definitive data.

rrg1 · 12/03/2020 17:10

In RL I only know of one person who is being tested and he works for the Fire service, so in a 'deemed essential' role. He has to wait 36 hour for the results, whilst self-isolating along with others in the family who have been in contact with him.
Other 'positive' results seem to be by clinical diagnosis i.e. no test , but I know nobody in RL, as yet.
I am interested to hear of others

aprilhope · 12/03/2020 17:13

@MsMeowington that's absolutely shocking. Has he been to A&E and they've turned him away?

aprilhope · 12/03/2020 17:14

@oncemorewithfeeling. That makes sense.

Notredamn · 12/03/2020 17:18

Fucking hell Ms that's shocking. It's an interesting insight into what actually happens. So he's just been left to either recover or die then. Shocking.

'I know someone who has the virus. Now recovering well.'

Did this person have a positive test result?

OP posts:
Frownette · 12/03/2020 17:20

Meow that's terrible, poor man.

aprilhope · 12/03/2020 17:21

@rrg1. Yes, and been hospitalised but now home and recovering well. 2 other people who tested positive at the same time have not had any symptoms.

CKoRn · 12/03/2020 17:22

@MsMeowington That's awful!! Surely if you call 111 and tell them he's coughing up blood that's a medical emergency???

GeordieRacer · 12/03/2020 17:24

I have something, but no idea if it is coronavirus as I've not been abroad or knowingly around anyone whose tested positive. But have raised temperature, hot and cold and a dry cough. Also feel sick which I don't think is a symptom?
Off work today and tomorrow anyway and have arranged with my boss to work from home next week to be on the safe side.
I was at work until yesterday when I left early due to feeling ropey though.

Thanks for the reply.
Do you know where their contagion was derived from? Did health authorities inform potential contacts?

'The figures we have are a big underestimate then given they are only testing a minority'

..or the opposite as the majority are not getting tests, some only a clinical diagnosis, which means nothing as symptoms are very similar to other conditions, or being told 'you may have it, so self-isolate'.
Figures are of no value in these case scenarios

FatimaLovesBread · 12/03/2020 17:34

I've been on the sofa for 4 days now with what I imagine is flu but could possibly be covid19. But like the PP wont be tested if I've not travelled or been in contact with a confirmed case. I almost hope it is "just" flu as I feel absolutely awful and I'm relatively young with no underlying health conditions

diddl · 12/03/2020 17:35

" (with NO symptoms) but in the following week i have been to the gp, the dentist, the hospital and at work."

But perhaps you could have cancelled the appointments if you felt it necessary iyswim.

Staying off work might not have been so easy.
