Dither

Delay

Panic

Run away

waspfig · 12/03/2020 16:58

We will spread the peak over a long period so our medical services can cope

Fourducksate · 12/03/2020 16:58

Well I’m happy for my children to stay at school, but it is rural so none of the kids are going joiners from a big city.

I do feel, keeping them all together is better, I know where they are an they are less likely to go off into town or the nearest cities.

I also think if you want to take your kids out you should be able to do so. I expect they will only have another week anyway and they will be off.

As for Spain getting worse. Yeah and over 1.000 of them were running amok in Liverpool yesterday, allowing that to happen IS irresponsible.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 16:58

If he says ‘wash hands’ i don’t actually know what I will do !

1ForAllnAllFor1 · 12/03/2020 16:58

Haven’t read the full thread as I’m juggling two kids as a SAHM.

As someone with DBS and teaching experience though I’m happy to volunteer to look after kids of parents in public services at my house.

I am sure there are some who are wiling to volunteer to help out kids of those in the public sector who aren’t able to work from home.

Maybe not closing schools down but limit children to those who work in the public sector and that way it could be more manageable and less crowded and less staff needed ?

Sorry if I sound naive

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 16:58

Cancelling school trips abroad is something- I know it's not much but it is a concrete measure and a sensible step (possibly should have been taken a week or two ago).

waspfig · 12/03/2020 16:58

The most dangerous period is not now but some weeks away depending on how it spreads

waspfig · 12/03/2020 16:59

If you have symptoms stay home for at least 7 days.

GalOopNorth · 12/03/2020 16:59

He sounds very breathy. Does he always sound like that?

TrixyLixy · 12/03/2020 17:00

What a bag of shit.

BarbedBloom · 12/03/2020 17:00

People will lose relatives before their time. Jesus. Glad he has acknowledged tests may not reflect reality

SistemaAddict · 12/03/2020 17:00

No, he doesn't. He's obviously worried. I've never seen him look plausible like he does now. He actually looks scared.

waspfig · 12/03/2020 17:00

We are NOT closing schools now. This could do more harm than good.

RozHuntleysStump · 12/03/2020 17:01

He sounds a bit peaky to me.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 17:01

No school closures unless ‘specifically advised to do so’

Kuponut · 12/03/2020 17:01

He sounds very breathy. Does he always sound like that?

Coincidentally had a long discussion about this in my phonetics sessions earlier this week - it's a politician thing where they break for breaths at unnatural points in their speech so that any interviewer is not primed for a natural "jumping into the conversation" point. Blair also used to do it very pointedly as well (since it was pointed out to me I can't un-hear it)

1ForAllnAllFor1 · 12/03/2020 17:01

And maybe limit classes which require group interactions. Make use of outdoor or wide spaces. And just implement measures to control school environment with less kids.

I think parents should be allowed to take their kids home if they wish, and perhaps even pressured to do so unless they have documents proving they can’t look after them?

My mothers and father are both teachers. One has health issues which puts him at risk and mother is a carer for her elderly father who is 80 something..

I don’t think it’s fair on teachers who are in a vulnerable category either

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:02

There could be some mileage in school sites offering childcare to children of those who work in essential services. I don't think it could be proper school provision, because then you're educationally advantaging certain children- but using school sites for childcare (like happens in the holidays) could be possible.

AlunWynsKnee · 12/03/2020 17:02

I have had a cough for a couple of weeks. I don't feel ill. It isn't an unusual cough. Am I supposed to be isolating? DH has one too. His isn't productive, mine is. Neither of us has reason to think we might have Coronavirus. Confused

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 17:02

What will help slow it?.
No major events cackled, nothing... No schools?.
Mr mechanic.. Feels ill, can't pay his mortgage... He may risk going into work... What fucking science??

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 17:02

He’s lost his bluster. Totally. Seems to be actually communicating even if he seems to be saying absolutely nothing new.

waspfig · 12/03/2020 17:02

I want to speak directly to older people. This disease is particularly dangerous for you.

We should all be thinking about elderly relatives and neighbours and do everything we can do to protect them over the next few months.

The government will do everything it can to help you and tour family through this period.

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 17:03

How does behaviour science work when people have bills to pay and mild symptoms of something perhaps they don't belive in?

TrixyLixy · 12/03/2020 17:03

It took them 4.5hrs to say absolutely nothing new.

GalOopNorth · 12/03/2020 17:03

I don’t believe you will do all you can Boris
