Morning all - thanks for the new thread.
Every morning when I've had a coffee and my eyes have started to function, I do a quick check of overnight developments and pop on here. Every morning I naively hope that there will be more good news than bad on the CV front and then I'm sorely disappointed.
Bit boggled by Trumps travel ban - I mean, it's certainly a gesture but excluding the UK seems a bit bonkers..... but I'm sure all the exerts he has consulted know what they are doing..... honestly I am.... guvnor......
The worst thing about it all as far as I can see is that it is proving how fragile and how inextricably linked to health the global economy is - and the knock on effects are likely to be a rather large snowball of impoverishment and instability, leading to possible deaths not just from CV itself but from other conditions that will slip in priority due to pressure on the NHS but also, potentially, deprivation as people struggle to make ends meet.
I don't pretend to understand the stock markets, but I know that bad crashes cause chaos - we may not be there yet but the US travel ban is causing a huge wobble again. Hopefully things are different enough in modern times to avoid a Depression scenario, and I am going to do a bit of research to see if there are expert views on this, because I can't be the only person who knows a bit about history and is wondering.
The human toll of CV both directly and indirectly is already having a massive effect on the national psyche and practically, and while I want to focus on being pro-active, having hope, trusting that we just haven't been told the big plan yet for good reason etc, I also want to keep a realistic mind set.
We can't easily separate between human and financial cost, much as we may want to, because it's all tied up together, and I feel sorry for the frontline dealing with this and having to consider their decisions in both a human and balance sheet context - it's heartbreaking and must be so stressful.
So we begin another day - thoroughly washed fingers crossed and teeth gritted.
