Lots of equipment and beds being moved around at our city’s hospital yesterday when I was there for my monthly blood test. A sense of calm though ( we have only one diagnosed case here) but lots of hushed conversations in corridors. Looked like prepping for whatever is to come.

Fourducksate · 12/03/2020 15:04

@nancypineapple

You have antibiotics, that is the important thing. Whether or not it is cv, is probably immaterial at this stage, if its an infection the antibi's will start taking effect.

To be honest, unless her breathing deteriorates, you are best at home, warm, cosy and familiar with lots of cuddles. Alternative Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, lots of fluids.

I am hoping that my Uni is closed, I think there's been a case there too, the nursing students will probably be deployed somewhere soon anyway.

@coronacon
The symptoms are obviously different for everyone.
I'm just sharing the stories the news are throwing out every day. Im not particularly commenting on any of it.

riot where everyone is very careful to keep 2 metres away from everywhere and applies gel after smashing a window....

can we ban riots with more than 100 people? For infection control purposes of course.

IrisAtwood · 12/03/2020 15:06

My DIL has been told to expect to wfh starting Monday. She works for a major investment bank in the City. Another member of my family who has a senior position in NHS England is buying enough food for two weeks isolation - we laughed about it, but still....

The cynic and brute realist in me wonders whether the government see this as an opportunity to reduce social care demands and increase available nursing home beds in the long term. Horrible way to think, but someone must have considered it as a consequence of letting the virus burn through our population.

Helenj1977 · 12/03/2020 15:06

Maybe we could have an online riot on mumsnet?? Almost like a silent protest 😂

BiBiBirdie · 12/03/2020 15:06

What a shock- Brexit is going to be delayed due to the virus.
My view is this is all a handy tool to get a no deal. Anyone with even half a brain could see what's happened in Italy and do the opposite. But no, our government just tells us to keep up with the handwashing.
I cannot actually believe we are still no nearer to actual action than January. We know it's highly transmittable, we know it's dangerous, we know kids get it without knowingly and can pass it on with devastating effects.
It's embarrassing now, WHO have said we are not doing what we should. It's about time the UN or some such stepped in and said they are going to oversee UK response as the Government has lost its damned mind.

NaturalBornWoman · 12/03/2020 15:07

Article just released in the Guardian saying most Covid infections seem to have been spread by people who aren't yet showing symptoms, which makes isolation once symptomatic a lot less effective than we'd hoped.

Which is entirely opposite to what the WHO report said based on their detailed research of China

BiBiBirdie · 12/03/2020 15:07

@IrisAtwood that's exactly what I think they're doing. We have a costly ageing population. Just look how they're treated pensions.

Whatusernamecanihave · 12/03/2020 15:07

Meeting has finished just got wait now ...

Newjez · 12/03/2020 15:07

@CoronaCon
Can you not understand why that makes it more dangerous?
It is a killer by stealth.
It's a pedophile with the looks and charm of George Clooney.

Who hoped? it's been known for months that people could incubate with no signs and spread at the same time.

www.theguardian.com/science/2020/mar/12/coronavirus-most-infections-spread-by-people-yet-to-show-symptoms-scientists

This is an analysis of one area of China and Singapore as well. Science doesn't say one thing, evidence accumulates over time, and the evidence here from this one study and now other studies is that in fact, most people are infected from non-symptomatic individuals. Exceptionally worrying for our strategy of stay home if you have symptoms (that's if that ever gets implemented anyway).

Newjez · 12/03/2020 15:12

@IrisAtwood

Don't forget the inheritance tax!

They will need the money to pay for all those budget infrastructure promises.

willdoitinaminute · 12/03/2020 15:12

Considering 25% of cases are in London I suspect that this will be where lockdown starts and movement will be restricted from Monday. Hence the rapid move to encourage wfh by big companies to avoid having to stump up for hotels. Prepare yourselves for much pearl clutching and handwringing from mn.
