@mac12

Have you watched Chris Whitty being asked questions by the select committee? It is 1 hour and 40 minutes long. I think it will answer most if not all of your questions.

DrMaryMalone · 12/03/2020 13:37

Not sure if it will let me post this screenshot but my parents live in malta and they have been given this advice.

@4cats2kids "Your local council can give each parent a fine of £60, which rises to £120 each if you do not pay within 21 days. If you do not pay the fine after 28 days you may be prosecuted for your child’s absence from school." Source

Is there an optimum time of day to check temperatures? DH and I have a cold and a cough and sometimes feel really cold. Chills seems to be a new symptom to me.

Kuponut · 12/03/2020 13:40

One plus point to all of this though - my Mother-in-Law's looming visit has been cancelled! Yay!

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 13:40

@Kuponut Grin silver linings eh?

ShanghaiDiva · 12/03/2020 13:40

@Sunshinegirl82
Yes, fingers crossed indeed. I am in awe of the action that has been taken by people who continue to work not just in the medical field, but those that have ensured we have utilities, water deliveries, food etc.

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/03/2020 13:41

@Freezingold the Chris Whitty and PHE have stated that the modelling they have done they believe will tell them pretty much exactly when to act.

The modelling data has not been released as far as I'm aware because people will react to it which then makes it less reliable.

The general public probably have a hundredth of the information available to the CMO and PHE. We are not going to be in a position to assess the decision making.

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 13:41

Really someone should watch an hour and 40 minutes long of questioning to get answers to some basic questions??
I watched a bit of it and was not impressed.

Skyejuly · 12/03/2020 13:42

Iwork In a care home. Have literally been told to just wash hands. That's it.

Just read on the DM (I know) and it says Boris will only keep it at the contained status and won't shut schools etc

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 13:43

It is clear the modelling they have done is to protect the economy. They will only close anything down when so many people are ill closure is pretty inevitable anyway because of sickness.

RedLentilYellowLentil · 12/03/2020 13:44

Honestly, you lot are out sailing. There is no evidence whatsoever that having this virus results in immunity, rather the reverse. Herd immunity (e.g. where a vaccination is available) in any case takes a generation to accumulate and depends on immunity in a lot more than the 80% of the population who are expected to have a mild expression of the virus. 'Protecting' the elderly and immunocompromised is a lot more than 'complex', it's impossible unless you're expecting to actually segregate them - also impossible actually. There is also an assumption here that you can identify who is vulnerable to this virus, which is more than just those two groups and is not necessarily simple to predict, given that the scientific literature is only just starting to identify trends and anomalies. All of this leaves aside the fact that the UK government doesn't actually seem to be following the recommendations of the scientific literature anyway. It's alarming how trusting some of you are of a government that is making decisions diametrically opposed to everything being advised by the WHO and done by almost every other stable government in the world.

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/03/2020 13:45

They think open air events are very low risk as I understand it. The reality is I suspect that if you perform a cost benefit analysis the benefits of cancelling don't outweigh the risks of going ahead.

OhMargo · 12/03/2020 13:46

Ireland is doing it right. Well done on decisive action.

NeckPainChairSearch · 12/03/2020 13:46

Yes. We are entrusted to the care of the Tory party. What a time to have Boris Fucking Johnson, Dominic Cummings et al responsible for our very lives.

SemiSkimmedMilk · 12/03/2020 13:46

@georgedawes Medisave.co.uk have thermometers

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/03/2020 13:47

@alloutoffucks

Yes. I think if you want to be informed you should listen to possibly the most qualified person in the country discuss exactly why they are planning to do things the way they are doing them.

If you don't want to that's fine but I don't think it's then appropriate to criticise.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 13:47

Norway will announce the closure of all kindergartens and schools to curb the spread of the coronavirus , following a similar step by neighboring Denmark, news agency NTB t.co/nSPiXiU2uL

I assume Norway are another one not following the "science"....🙄

Babyfairy0923 · 12/03/2020 13:48

What time is this bloody announcement?!

AvocadoOwl · 12/03/2020 13:49

Not sure if this has been shared on here already but it's a video from the 25 year old British man who contracted CV in Wuhan back in November www.instagram.com/p/B9j5AvCq4Rd/?igshid=12ym5fq1r8q13

KarenTookTheKids · 12/03/2020 13:49

Redlentil, rather than being 'alarmed', perhaps you can understand that we don't all feel the same way as you? And that is ok. We don't all have to agree, even if you personally find that 'alarming'.
