Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Re the recovery time, I read an article earlier today which suggested that a week is the turning point for people with symptoms - either fairly rapid recovery from then or rapid decline.

Unileaver123 · 10/03/2020 22:29

6 deaths in uk, sad as it is nothing really to talk about and that is why it’s not being discussed. Not dramatic enough

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 22:29

EXCLUSIVE

Nadine Dorries, a health minister, has become first MP to be diagnosed with coronavirus

She has been in Westminster for past week, met hundreds of people, and attended a No 10 reception hosted by Boris Johnson on Thursday

Wehttam · 10/03/2020 22:30

absent you sound educated with that masters thing you may have done but can you maybe lay of the language when address other people’s posts please?

If you are triaging someone unconscious in respiratory collapse you’ll have no bloody idea of their 10k time or whether they have mild asthma!

celtiethree · 10/03/2020 22:32

I wonder if this will change advice, health minister who has been in number 10 diagnosed, diagnosis confirmed this evening:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/coronavirus-infected-minster-nadine-dorries-had-been-in-no-10-c3sjs5kmp

Wehttam · 10/03/2020 22:32

unileaver there are threads for non believers elsewhere. No need to be dismissive of the situation here, why don’t you head over to one of those?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 22:32

@Wehttam, maybe get your friends to watch today's official press conference from the Protezione Civile etc if they haven't already. No hospital is as yet reporting critical situations in handling cases and the experts were optimistic that with today's new cases being about 500 fewer than yesterday there is cause for a tiny sigh of relief that we may not be able to see the light yet, but we know there will be one.

Re: Italian smokers. On a previous thread someone found the stats 23% of Italians smoke, 16% of Brits iirc.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 22:32

Username I agree with your posts.

Given the low percentage of childhood deaths let alone from lack of care, if it had been the case the media would have a field day with it. Since as we know fear sells. So we could say children with asthma have not been disregarded. Unless someone has seen some stats.

RedToothBrush · 10/03/2020 22:33

Of course the virus is dangerous for some people but we don't know that loads of people will need intensive care.

Don't we?

We don't have enough evidence of a high number of critical care patients from other country?

And knowledge that we have fewer critical care bed than other countries?

At the weekend one newspaper was reporting how many ICUs were full a few weeks back at the height of flu season. It wasn't pretty reading.

And we know that covid-19 is more serious for more patients than flu.

And we know that the number of infections are showing any slow down.

And we don't have many measures in places for trying to delay spread at present.

Maybe I live in a parallel dimension but I'm not quite sure how you arrive at the conclusion "Of course the virus is dangerous for some people but we don't know that loads of people will need intensive care". I'd really like to know what you are basing this off other than blind hope.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/03/2020 22:33

Someone upthread said they didn't know what the government's plan was

I think they've been very clear. They want most of us to get it, just not all at once. They talk about flattening the peak not reducing numbers. The population must get a sufficient immunity or we will just get more waves from other countries. They can't lock the whole country down and isolate us from all other countries for the months needed, like China can.
I wish they could. So many are going to die. I want schools closed now and gatherings banned now etc, but they are waiting for enough people to get it first to get the ball rolling. Personally I find it terrifying....

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 22:34

Nadine Dorries' coronavirus diagnosis came through tonight. She is recovering

Health officials are now in process of attempting to identify all the people Nadine Dorries has been in contact with over the past week - including MPs

LarkDescending · 10/03/2020 22:34

The news about Nadine Dorries has also just been mentioned on the BBC News at Ten.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 10/03/2020 22:34

@OneTimePrepper Fit and healthy is just a comparative thing. You pick the person with the best chance of survival.
I am assuming they will have people's medical histories to hand as you give your name when you ar admitted.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 22:35

The source of Nadine's case is unknown.
I bet that parliament shuts now!

LarkDescending · 10/03/2020 22:35

Also a diagnosis for a HCP at Gt Ormond St (in their cardiology dept). Those who may have been contacts are being individually traced.

tryingtoprep · 10/03/2020 22:36

Nadine is over 60, I believe.

Wehttam · 10/03/2020 22:36

Bookme interestingly, they said the opposite. My DP will be hearing off them tomorrow so we can compare notes then perhaps... I hope you are right though.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 22:36

Cardiology? That's dreadful. So scary when it's HCPs. Those poor people on that ward.

myrtleWilson · 10/03/2020 22:37

@wettham 'non believers' ??? This isn't a thread about Father fucking Christmas - please stop policing posters

RedToothBrush · 10/03/2020 22:37

Has Nadine Dorries been abroad?

Did she have to go through 111 to get approved for coronavirus testing?

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 22:38

Nadine is 62...
I wonder what will happen with parliament now? Says she has mixed with 100s over the last few days.

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/03/2020 22:38

@Wehttam

Quit the attempt to tone police.

Posts about asthmatic children being refused treatment are whipped up to cause fear and it's frankly cruel.

Pompous posts about people being too afraid to talk about death, and using that as an excuse to rub salt in the wounds of the high risk, is frankly cruel also. It is a shitty thing to do, dressed up as some superior level of emotional intelligence.
