I haven't gone crazy and just bought things we might need (a lady is in intensive care only a few mins away from our house)
3 packets of pasta
Pasta sauces
Beans /spaghetti
Tinned tuna
Noodles
Mug shots (desperate times )
Rice
Rice pudding
Soup
Long life milk
Anything else I could get ?
What have you bought ?

No I haven't.

HerRoyalNotness · 10/03/2020 15:55

Yes
I’ve frozen some mince packs and have hamburger helper in and frozen veg, a small milk frozen, lots of instant noodles, bread flour and yeast, olive oil, pasta, rice and snacks for the DC

Finfintytint · 10/03/2020 15:56

No. I always have a month of supplies. I batch cook and freeze a lot from produce I’ve grown.
Always lots of dry goods in cupboards.

tearsandtiaras · 10/03/2020 15:58

Not this again.

No and don't intend to

Bluebutterfly90 · 10/03/2020 16:00

No, we are going through a bad time financially and can't afford to buy more than we need.
I just hope that shortages don't continue or we'll be in trouble. I'm trying to stretch our food as far as it'll go. It's a worry.

crosspelican · 10/03/2020 16:00

Yes - not much though. UHT milk, flour (and yeast), butter, pasta, rice, chopped tomatoes, eggs, chocolate, tikka paste, pesto, olives, parmesan, frozen spinach, teabags, cereal. Few bottles of wine (not that there's going to be a booze shortage!). About a 3 week supply if I don't work my way through all the cornflakes and wine this week though....

If we have †o self isolate, I think a week's supply is reasonable - it's about a week for an Ocado delivery at the moment.

We use Who Gives A Crap so already had heaps of toilet roll! Grin

Elllicam · 10/03/2020 16:01

We have a good couple of months of food, possibly more. We need more nappies though.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/03/2020 16:02

A few extra items.

Tuna.
Beans.
Beans with sausages.
Uht milk.
Soup.
Packet mash.

PuzzledObserver · 10/03/2020 16:03

No, and I really don’t see the need. There are online deliveries. There are people nearby who would pick up shopping and leave it on the doorstep for us if need be.

I did however stock up my paracetamol cache twice rather than once. And bought some Dettol surface wipes. And a big pack of toilet rolls even though we weren’t running low.

Greggers2017 · 10/03/2020 16:04

You do realise shops will still open dont you? They even are in China ffs!
People like you who are stockpiling are the reason I had to go to 4 different shops to get my food shopping at the weekend. It's pathetic. Please stop!

Funkycats · 10/03/2020 16:05

Look on the brexit and preppers boards OP. There are some useful ongoing threads there.
Posters are not as barking mad as some would lead you to believe.
We were the ones not out stripping the shelves this last week

scarymary33 · 10/03/2020 16:06

Stockpiling ?
I hardly think a few extra items is stock pilling.
Not everyone has the luxury if they get sick of having others to drop food off.
If I get sick and have nothing in ...I would be screwed.

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 10/03/2020 16:06

No.

MauriceandAlec · 10/03/2020 16:06

No. I'm a prepper. Panic buying means poor and vulnerable people who rely on such items as staples in their diet now can't get them.

Skyejuly · 10/03/2020 16:06

Yes food plus hygiene products just so you dont have to go out when you have food but run out of toothpaste. San pro. Cleaning products

PickAChew · 10/03/2020 16:09

Made sure we're well stocked up on store cupboard staples, have more frozen veg than usual in the freezer and plenty of onions (we always use a lot of onions, each week)

Kids are autistic and will make sure we always have at least a week's worth of their approved foods in the freezer.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/03/2020 16:10

I have bought one extra weeks worth of the limited food my DS will eat because he's autistic. Keeping him on an even keel is more important to me. I can manage on what's in the cupboards already. I'm a single parent with no support. I don't have the money or the space to prep. Indeed I don't know anybody who could afford to do so.

Titsywoo · 10/03/2020 16:10

No but I'm pretty sure we could survive on the food we have here for 2-3 weeks anyway and I already had loads of toilet roll (always do as I bulk buy that as well as washing tabs and a few other bits every few months at costco).

bellinisurge · 10/03/2020 16:10

I did yonks ago because I'm a prepper. Sitting back and watching people panic buying. Wasting money and not thinking it through.

Op, a jar of peanut butter if that goes down well in your house. Cheers people up if they like it and has protein. Pack of oats to make porridge. Cook it slowly with water on the hob it's very creamy. And takes e.g . tinned fruit if you don't have fresh.
Cheap. Bit dull if repeated too often but better that than not having anything vaguely normal to eat.

PristineCondition · 10/03/2020 16:12

I brought extra books if that counts?

Passmeabrew · 10/03/2020 16:13

I haven't stocked up on anything more than I need, however thanks to those that have ordering my online shop has been a nightmare this week. They've put restrictions on how many tins you can order - I was allowed 4 tins in my weekly shop for a family of four today. I don't eat much meat and regularly but tinned chickpeas, a variety of beans and chopped tomatoes. Meal planning is annoying enough, I had the added fun of trying to do it around the limitations and going to have to try and go shops to get the rest. I'm lucky enough to be able to go to the shops - some people rely on online deliveries. People need to stop panic buying and hoarding food they will more than likely never use.

bellinisurge · 10/03/2020 16:15

Avoid a toilet roll castle (unless you want one Grin) buy taking bog roll out of its packet and squashing it flat before putting in say a hold-all that you might have in your home. Squashed loo roll/lose a few sheets/trip over the bag for a couple of weeks versus not having any loo roll because you are self isolating, were too proud to buy an extra basics pack and have no one to shop for you.

FelineUK · 10/03/2020 16:15

Got a Morrison’s order coming tomorrow - yesterday had to wait almost a week then today they’ve got new slots for tomorrow, extra drivers I expect. It’s all very surreal but hubby thought we should - he’s diabetic so high risk. I bought

Tuna
Tinned fish, frozen fish
Frozen veg
Cheese
Butter
Chickpeas
Lentils
Flour
Bleach
Soap
Nuts
Paracetamol
Coffee and tea

Really it’s just a normal shop of stuff we were already low on. No stockpiling here except tuna as it was on offer and I love tuna melts... I have enough fat on me to keep me going for months Grin

bellinisurge · 10/03/2020 16:18

.. "I have enough fat on me to keep me going for months "
Just to interject some pomposity to your comedy. Being "fat" doesn't mean you can do ok without a proper meal. Being hungry is shit .

wigglybeezer · 10/03/2020 16:24

Well i had some of my Brexit stash still left, having a rotating stash of extra tinned and dry goods has become a way of life for me now and is often very useful.
I remember the one and only time we all had the flu, we were all confined to bed for three days, no way we could get out to the shops or cook anything complicated. I'm not so worried about the supply chain, more our physical ability to get out to the shops if ill.
