I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

Aww your dog is beautiful spudlet his little face has cheered up my morning

Alsohuman · 13/03/2020 09:34

I'm idly skimming the other threads, but they don't trigger me, I just scroll on by muttering "idiot", "arsehole" or "are you thick?

I’m doing the same and say exactly the same thing. The more extreme hysteria is actually making me laugh now.

Spudlet · 13/03/2020 09:41

Just found some handy options under the screen time settings on my iPhone. I’ve blocked the main newspaper website I use altogether and have set a daily time limit on the bbc news app. I’ve also been snoozing anyone who starts sharing too much coronavirus stuff on Facebook.

I think my eyes have rolled out of my head a few times. Some people are determined to follow a catastrophic train of thought but rather than educate themselves sensibly, they just want to infect everybody with their misery and scaremongering. It's bloody irresponsible. Hmm

I can say this with confidence because sadly my DH is prone to it. Its called schadenfreude isn't it? Certain people love the drama...

theThreeofWeevils · 13/03/2020 09:51

Any other asthmatics shitting themseves?

No, but every time I cough, I pee a little Grin

tobee · 13/03/2020 09:54

Laniakea we think in a similar way! I just got a load of plant food as I decided to try to keep my Christmas poinsettia going as a small project Grin

Morning all, joining in as my anxiety is through the roof and I need to get a grip.

I have a multi generational household so need to be positive. So pleased to have found this thread.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/03/2020 10:08

I tried to talk on one of the other threads in the "Topic" area about the fat that the elderly, well, do die sadly and of various things such as dementia and cancer. And that is very sad but it is the reality, and for some elderly (I would feel like this to be honest) this might not be the worst thing.

Anyway I got shot down, sworn at and called a 'monster', and that I 'wanted the old people to die" (MN did remove that post quickly however) It is impossible to have a rational discussion.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/03/2020 10:08

The fact not the ''fat" (whoops)

Orangeblossom78 · 13/03/2020 10:10

I have managed to bookmark this thread which is good, on the desktop just comes here instead of the rest of it.

BBC News seems to be Ok in terms of reporting.

Gemm83 · 13/03/2020 10:13

To anyone who hasn't seen it yet, please watch Sir Patrick Vallance on BBC Breakfast this morning. His response to all the questions was measured, calm and science based. He even clarified Boris' opening gambit to his speech yesterday. I for one have been an anxiety riddled mess for the last couple of days, but his words and reasoning really settled me this morning. He even went to say that the 80% infection rate is truly a WORST case scenario and that all governments around the world have to have these in order to plan, and that there is no way realistically that it will be a high as 80%.

Hedgehog26 · 13/03/2020 10:16

Just checking in for today. Hope everyone is ok.

I have a hangover today. Treating it as practise for looking after the baby is I do get sick Grin really wishing I’d stockpiled pringles now

oh god me too - I was this close to getting banned yesterday but today I'm WTaF is wrong with ppl? Why can't they just be reasonable? Concerned, proportionate, responsible, nuanced ... I'm convinced that there are people actually enjoying this.

Superbrew · 13/03/2020 10:27

Gemm83 what time was he on? I'm just trying to see of I can find it

Hedgehog26 · 13/03/2020 10:30

Just saw this on insta and thought I’d share

"I know its hard to
Imagine
Now
But
Some day
You’ll be the key and not
The lock
The exception
Not
The rule
Some day
You’ll be a source of strength
To others
Even though today
You feel so
Weak
You’ll be a
Voice
Amongst the starlight
And they will
Listen
When you speak
I know
Its hard to imagine
Now
When you’re feeling
Broken
And so small
But one day you’ll be a
Mountain
And your pain will be worth
It all" - Louise Alexander

Gemm83 · 13/03/2020 10:34

@Superbrew

It was around 7.30ish. He was very good.

Eebahgumlass · 13/03/2020 10:38

Morning everyone- thanks for the recommendation to listen to Patrick Vallance. I'm going to listen now. Was wobbling last night but feeling better this morning. Am also getting a puppy tomorrow @MortyFide ! I'll be sure to share some puppy photos tomorrow.... he should keep me busy and focused. I was nervous about getting him but am really looking forward to it now. It will give the whole family a boost.

Superbrew · 13/03/2020 10:39

I think it's been too long too watch on iplayer, I'll have a look on YouTube..thanks!

Putapeonyinyourpocket · 13/03/2020 10:55

Morning everyone, I've given up staying away from the news as it's all people in real life are talking about, so I can hardly bury my head in the sand. However, I thought I'd share this snippet from the guardian this morning...

Other tech companies lacking in engineering or data tool capabilities pledged other resources. Uber offered to provide free taxi rides to medical staff, while the likes of food delivery service Deliveroo offered to keep hospital workers fed. Amazon said it would provide its video conferencing tools and other aspects of its cloud computing services to the health service for free.

Nice to sleep our front line folk are being catered for.

shinynewapple2020 · 13/03/2020 11:07

@MortyFide he's very cute !

And look forward to seeing your puppy pics too @Eebahgumlass . Yes anyone with a new puppy will be far too busy to worry about CV!

I am trying to do what I can to stay in the best health I can so taking an effervescent vit c and zinc tablet drink each day with a vit d tablet and eating lots of vegetables .

I've ordered some kefir yogurt as this is supposed to up your food bacteria and help immunity and thinking of getting some Manuka honey, I noticed they have got Lidl's version on a special this weekend so will pop and see if they still have any in.

And making sure I get out with the dog each day.

I'm thinking I may stop going to slimming world as there are a lot of people packed together in a hot room, but went to my Pilates class yesterday, that seems quite safe as we are spread out and she bought wipes along for the equipment so I think the benefits outweigh the risk there.

TheWorstShed · 13/03/2020 11:09

Hi everyone. I am also a lot worse in the morning - I wake up with a sinking dread feeling, even if I go to bed feeling positive. Then I am ok until about 4pm and feel bad again and then ok before bed. It's weird.

I found this (Graham Medley on Newsnight) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p086hjgc quite reassuring about why school closures might not be ideal. I am leaving some political FB groups because they seem determined to scare the shit out of us to make a point. I am not a fan of the Tories, and don't trust them, but the arguments from some advisors make some sense.

Spudlet · 13/03/2020 11:20

A bit more positivity - my little baby leeks and courgettes. Hopefully these will go into the vegetable patch soon and help to keep us fed! My courgettes last year were absolutely hopeless so hoping for better this year.

Morning everyone - just checking in as a form of procrastination from the washing up...

I haven’t seen or read any news at all this morning and feeling very cheerful.

Am planning a yarn and fabric shop later on with the idea that potentially getting out less may give me some time for projects - realise this is probably ridiculously optimistic as whenever else I’ve had more free time than usual I mostly just dither more than usual...

I also just spent 45minutes trying to do a comprehensive 2 week meal plan, so I can shop less often (really don’t like online shopping) but so bloody frustrating that I’ve decided I’m just sticking with my usual approach - with a bit of luck supermarket will be quieter than usual and it’ll be nice and relaxing.

My lovely distraction of the day yesterday was watching ‘My Neighbours The Yamadas’ on netflix with the kids - really lovely gentle and funny film.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/03/2020 11:33

@MortyFide - what a gorgeous little puppy!

@Hedgehog26 - thank you for that poem. For the past year, I've been trying to read at least one new poem a week - it was part of last year's NY resolution, which was that, instead of giving things up, I'd add things to my life to make it richer - like listening to a new piece of music and reading a new poem at least once a week. I also planned to learn a new skill - I wanted to teach myself embroidery - but I didn't get that done last year - but 2020 is still young, and if I have to self-isolate, embroidery would keep me occupied.

I follow a group on FB called the Profanities Embroidery Group - I don't know if I will do sweary embroidery, but it does appeal!! Grin

I am restraining myself from following @Callybrid's example, and stockpiling yarn. Don't tell dh I said this, but I probably have enough to keep me going for a while (if 'a while' is several years - I have StABLE - Stash Beyond Life Expectancy BlushGrin).
