I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

I'm having another wobble, saw the title of another thread and it made me want to cry. I just don't how I'm going to cope with this constantly for however many months. I have young children one who is not "asthmatic" but has needed an inhaler and steroids when he gets a chest infection. I have family members with underlying health problems. I'm trying to be calm for my children but I don't have the answers for them.

The Patrick Vallance intervies is on the BBC news site:

Thanks for this thread

Callybrid · 13/03/2020 12:56

Ah, Suretry, I feel for you. Can you concentrate for now on being kind to yourself right now and just getting through today instead of thinking about how you’ll get through the next few months?

Someone up thread posted some very reassuring advice re children with inhalers from their Dr - if you didn’t see that maybe worth going back and having a little read?

Spudlet - v exciting! I have tomato and cucumber seedlings and makes me so happy seeing them every day.

meercat23 · 13/03/2020 13:08

I have just found this thread. Thank goodness. I have been feeling swamped and anxious by all of the very negative and scary threads and have decided not to look at them any more but a positive thread is very welcome.

CaveMum · 13/03/2020 13:47

This is a reassuring article from the BBC talking about who the outbreak in the UK is different to the one in Italy www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51858987

Alsohuman · 13/03/2020 14:01

It was quiet in town today again, it is nice to have a break from the crowds in this very touristy city. The sun is shining and flowers out in the park. Went to the sports centre swimming which was quiet also, I do get anxiety in general and don't like crowds so for me, the peace was nice. Lots of cleaning going on of the tills etc and people just getting on with their day.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 13/03/2020 14:31

A friend of mine has said she wipes down her letters when she gets them!! Surely that's not necessary - or is it?? It did make me giggle.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/03/2020 14:41

I daren't post this on any of the other Coronavirus threads but wanted to ask a question - are your friends and family IRL massively concerned about this virus? I don't know anyone at all who is panicking unnecessarily but when I come on here and read some of the comments I feel like it's mass hysteria! Does anyone else feel the same?

AutumnRose1 · 13/03/2020 14:45

chocolate no one unduly concerned

In fact, our main hypochondriac- really, sorry to say he wastes docs time - is calm. I have asthma, a close relative is severely immunocompromised, mum is 82 with underlying health problems and we’re carrying on as normal.

Obviously if any of us need to self isolate, we will, but other than that, life goes on as per normal, for us. I’m an obsessive hand washer normally though.

We’re all more worried that a shut down will go on for ages but so far that’s what the medical officers seem to be avoiding, and I think that’s right.

Bloodybackpain · 13/03/2020 14:45

@chocolatesaltyballs22 no one I speak to in real life is flapping/panicked but it is certainly the main topic of conversation. Maybe writing it down allows people to express their innermost darkest fears? Which I guess is a good thing if they get it off their chest

estherfrewen · 13/03/2020 14:47

Everyone I know irl is going on as normal. Comes up occasionally in conversation at work and we have had updates from employer and guidance for possibly home working but just sensible advice rather than panic. I'm fretting a bit over DS and gcses as we are booked to go away at the end of june so if they are pushed back I dont know what will happen.

Bloodybackpain · 13/03/2020 14:50

I had a crap sleep, often find it hard to sleep, but it’s worse at the moment. However I have been for a lovely long run through fields and woods, saw rabbits and a red kite flying overhead plus lots of spring flowers. Then I went for my counselling session- I set this up a while ago pre cv madness but it is very timely!

And today is my oldest DSs birthday - he is 10! We are going out for tea tonight where I shall drink wine and eat carbs. Tomorrow we are off to a water slide place - we’ve been debating all week whether it’s ok to go, but I’m thinking it’s heavily chlorinated, we will wash our hands regularly and try not to stand too close to others in queues for slides. I think our family state of mind will be much improved after hurling ourselves down some crazy slides!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/03/2020 14:50

Oh yeah it's definitely a talking point but I haven't spoken to anyone at all who is unduly worried. My husband is immunocompromised and he's not worried. My mum is 73 but otherwise fit and healthy. I feel selfish worrying about whether we will get our Easter holiday to Cape Verde but life goes on, right? I'm also worried about school closures with a daughter in her first A level year. Lots of people saying that education isn't important when compared to life or death but she and all her peers have to go on to earn a living in life at some point don't they?

Alsohuman · 13/03/2020 14:51

Our only worry is that we’ll be told to stay at home (old) and we’ll get stick for ignoring it. Life’s too short to sit at home in the spring/summer. I suspect we won’t be the only ones though.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/03/2020 14:55

I am on enforced working from home which isn't the end of the world and I'm very lucky that I'm able to do this. Suspect I will go stir crazy after a while though.

AlandAnna · 13/03/2020 15:32

Checking in and keeping this thread prominent for those that need it.
I’m well controlled asthmatic but not too worried. It has made me more compliant with my preventer. Just keep in mind the very reassuring stats re children SureTry

AlandAnna · 13/03/2020 15:34

We are planning to get a puppy end of May which will be very good for the old mental health. They are due in less than a week and there will be a puppy cam to share with you!

onlinelinda · 13/03/2020 15:42

I would love a puppy!

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 13/03/2020 15:43

Can't wait to see the puppies! In the meantime, here is my Bonnie, rescued from a previous existence as a backyard breeder's bitch - in the first one she is focussed on waiting for her beloved ball to be thrown, and in the second one she has said ball. She's a little bit obsessed - taking her for walks is great therapy and a good reminder about enjoying the present!

Layladylay234 · 13/03/2020 15:48

Right,I need talking down today. Not because I'm worried, but because the sheer ignorance and selfishness of the panic buyers I saw today in Tesco and Lidl. Whole shelves clear of toilet roll, soap, handwash, pasta and flour. I live in a city with 2 confirmed cases. The area I live in is full of young people with families and students. It's also pretty deprived. It makes me feel sick to see all these people looking out for themselves when most of them,if they get it,will probably be fine. All I wanted was some sodding dispersible paracetamol for my toothache.

And don't even get me started on those wearing masks which we have been told for months...DO NOTHING!

Jesus,I thought the nation was divided over Brexit, this is most definitely showing the cracks in the "us and them" divide.

Can anyone point me to something positive today to show me most human beings aren't selfish idiots?!

AlandAnna · 13/03/2020 15:52

Laylady my friend has posted her number through elderly neighbours letterbox asking them to call her if they need anything Brew
