Took my daughter to A And E as I was concerned about her as she's not been well for 4 days. I have been really worried about her. ( not corona virus related at all )
Anyway she gets seen by the nurse in triage and he's said that I've put her at high risk of corona virus getting her seen and made out she will now get the virus because I've taken her to hospital. I've never taken her to hospital when I'll but on this occasion I have been really worried.
Now I feel like a terrible parent and feel like I can't win 😢 will she now get the virus because she's entered the hospital

@Dylaninthemovies1 yes the reason why I went to A and E is because she wasn't improving she was getting worse

My son had similar symptoms last week. He's 15 and I didn't take his temperature but he was definitely hot. Was the 40° temperature confirmed by a&e?

Russellbrandshair · 10/03/2020 22:31

OP, just breathe.

You did nothing wrong. You took your child to the hospital because you clearly thought she needed treatment. You haven’t “given her” CV or anything of the sort. People with cv are being told NOT to go to hospitals or their GP at the moment and the ones needing hospital treatment for it won’t be left in the corridor of A&E, they’ll be on an isolation ward. You have as much chance bumping into someone at your local shop who has just been to A&E or using public transport or touching the door handle in a shop or a million other places.

The people in the UK who have caught CV haven’t caught it whilst in hospital they’ve caught in their own community by being put and about in public.

OP Just to reassure you that not all children that get high temps have convulsions. My eldest would get a temp of 40/41 with just a cold. My other two children have never had a temp over 38. I used to give calpol/nurofen alternately and didn't miss a dose just because it came down. I used to gradually space the doses further apart, checking that temp was still under 40.

Has the doctor checked her ears? My daughter used to have stomach pain and vomit at the start of an ear infection. Something to do with the glands in the stomach linked to the ears. It's quite common apparently. She could also have the flu, that lasts 7-10 days with a raised temp. There's another virus that presents itself with the same symptoms as appendicitis. In my experience it isn't unusual for a child to have a fever for 4/5 days. There are so many different viruses that they can catch. It is scary though when you see them that poorly. I hope by the morning she is feeling a bit better.

Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 23:40

Mine has all that and it was eat infection.

Whattodo1610 · 11/03/2020 08:59

How’s your dd today OP?

worriedmumishere · 11/03/2020 19:57

@Whattodo1610 thank you for your concern and thoughts! She appears to be a lot better today. She's walking around more instead of lying down. Her temp is currently fluctuating between 37.8 and 38.4 without meds but it's better then it was as it was over 40 last night so I'm glad to see it go down.

Keep up with the meds and plenty of fluids.

frumpety · 11/03/2020 20:54

Sounds like she is over the worst, hope she continues to improve Smile

ChickLitLover · 12/03/2020 03:03

Glad to hear she seems to be recovering finally OP. It’s so worrying when you’re kids are poorly.

Whattodo1610 · 12/03/2020 09:01

Definitely keep up with calpol and nurofen until temperature is completely down and settled.

The maintaining high temperature was 1 of only 2 indicators that my dd was seriously ill. Never ignore/play down a temperature that won’t go down.

So glad your dd seems to be on the mend. Smile Flowers

How can any qualified doctor say it's constipation causing her fever when its infection that causes fever!

Lots of things cause a high temperature. My son had a form of constipation when he was small where he could go to the toilet but there was blockage “further up”. I could tell when he had it by his temperature.

headache and fever the main symptoms of corona virus.

Breathing difficulties, sore throat and cough are main symptoms. You say your daughter has a bunged up nose (not a symptom of CV) but you haven’t mentioned a cough as far as I have seen.

Has anyone's child ever had A fever for 5 days plus though?

Yes! Both of mine have and so have I. Not pleasant but not an A&E job.

It is good and healthy to be concerned for your child but don’t let your anxiety take over. Both my DCs have, at different times, had bad viruses that have REALLY knocked them out for a long time complete with fever etc. Just keep up fluids, simple foods if she will accept them and recommended dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen.

There is no way I would be taking anyone to any hospital at the moment unless I suspected a broken bone or life threatening illness to be honest.
