@BirdandSparrow I think the government is under playing it and it’s Lulling them into a false sense of security. Same with Brexit

Absolutely @BirdandSparrow. I am really biting my tongue.

DSis said, 2 minutes after me saying the beach was shut, 'well you can walk on the beach, be outside, fresh air'

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 18:10

Could be a expensive walk 😂

To be fair, I didn't really get the magnitude until this morning. I only fully twigged this morning that I can't even go for a walk.
But, they won't get it until they are literally put under nationwide quarantine or there are so many deaths it's just obvious to everyone.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 19:14

I've just been part of flash mob on my passeo! All out on the balconies clapping the health service! Smile it was fab. Quite amazing. Thousands of people.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 19:15

Yes birds, I only got it this morning also.

PotsOfPebbles · 15/03/2020 19:16

Just happened here and we were out on the terrace clapping.

Hi, my MIL and FIL have just been to Spain (murcia) for 1 month come back 2 days ago 13th, drove back and stopped in France for the night between travelling to the UK. They have come home and asked to see my children (11 months and 5 years old) I have refused and advised I don’t want them to be near for atleast 1 week. Problem being my FIL is also my employer (CEO of the company I work for) and is insisting he is going to work this week meaning I will be in contact with him it’s a small company and also will my partner who also works there. I have asked me partner to ask him to stay off work not just for my children’s benefit but also we have a 65 year old employee with health risks in the office. There where 61 cases in Murcia reported on Saturday and Spain has become a high risk over the weekend. My partner thinks I am being absolutely ridiculous we have had the worlds biggest argument and he thinks I’m totally over reacting by asking them to stay away for atleast 7 days including going to work, can someone please tell me if I am over reacting? I’m concerned mainly for my 11 month old who is allergic to antibiotics so may struggle the most? Thanks

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 19:44

Honestly? I'd be more worried about the adults. DC's get it but don't suffer from it, they are just 'super carriers'

I'd be more worried about whole company of adults. But what do I know?

Your Dad should not go into work, for sure, either way.

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 19:44

@lgm15 antibiotics only work against bacteria this is a virus so your lil one should be fine to receive treatment, as your in the U.K. I can only suggest good hygiene and social distancing you can visit The Who website for more advice. Sorry your parents are putting you through this they should really isolate for 14 days.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 19:46

He needs to self isolate for 14 days. But this generation seem to be being difficult about it. IMO

It was the only time I felt truly happy today! Real community spirit!

Ofitck · 15/03/2020 20:05

We had it too, 8pm, the city anthem and long applause. Brought a tear to my eye!

Lgm15 · 15/03/2020 20:17

Thank you for the responses I feel a little less dramatic now

Novia · 15/03/2020 22:03

The thread about the UK being so super special that they can't be locked-in is giving me the range. No wonder the rest of Europe think we are dickheads! The sense of our own entitlement is breathtaking.

How are people coping today? I saw the note about gas - hope you're okay. I think it is counted as a service as we topped up our gasoil end of last week without any problems.

I'm having slight existential dread today. Back to work tomorrow (from home) with the kids fussing is not enticing. I'm getting cabin fever already, I hate being stuck at home.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 22:12

Novia I agree, it's breathtaking in its arrogance. (UK thread)

I also had proper dread for at least 2 hours on waking. I'm ok now, but tomorrow, repeat...

I actually don't mind too much being stuck at home. Yet...

elQuintoConyo · 15/03/2020 22:19

I have a meeting at work tomorrow, luckily it's just a walk through the town centre, no public transport. Unluckily I'll also be carrying a GIGANTIC wrapped present for my boss who's just had a baby! No, officer, honestly not going to a birthday party ConfusedGrin

We have a dog who needs to get out a couple of times a day, so DH and I take turns to go outside. Weirdly I feel so safe at night, a lone woman, as town's just empty.

There were loads of people out and about today, families on the beach, joggers in pairs or threes, people sitting on the bench outside the quiosco shooting the shit. I saw 5 tourists taking selfies outside the amphitheatre FFS!

I think if fines don't start coming in thick and fast, locals will be back to normal by next weekend, up and down the rambla.

Day 1 technically? I can hear some cars but seems pretty quiet out.

Novia - perfect illustration of this attitude on BBC Breakfast this morning. Man anticipating difficulty returning home to Wales after going to Benidorm - a couple of days ago, for the weekend! 🤯 he seemed genuinely surprised that it wasn’t going to be plain sailing (or flying ...) and his main concern appeared to be that he’d been forced to eat bread and Pringles for the weekend and spend his time on a balcony.

There is just no reasoning with stupid.

elQuintoConyo · 16/03/2020 08:45

Rush hour her was not as noisy as usual, but definitely a rush hour.

It's raining here so there'll be fewer people chancing their arm, I think.

I've just been sent a video taken from a balcony if a man walking his "dog" which is actually a wheeled radiator Grin Looked quite convincing!

Pugwash1 · 16/03/2020 09:22

This thread is a nice find!! We are on our boat down in the Canaries and we too are obviously on lockdown. My mum and family were due to fly out today to celebrate her 80th and a couple of them got a little funny when I told them a few days ago it wouldn't be happening but my mum was fine. I did however have a proper chat with her that going to to blimmin garden centre and buying a hoe wasn't a good reason to go out and to start taking this thing seriously. She was saying she will still have to walk the dog etc. My nephew who is 23 lives with her full time... My brother is going to be that one person who gets it and hasn't prepared himself in any way and then blame everyone else! Meanwhile yesterday I saw a restaurant owner being led away in handcuffs but because he was open due business but because he hadn't locked it all down in time. Saw a runner getting fined €500 for not having a valid reason to be out and just seen some idiot tourist wander off in the direction of the closed beach with a yoga mat! Guarda Civil on the street corners.
