Covid
Anyone else feeling a bit concerned about trips they’ve booked in this country over the next few weeks?
SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2020 19:05
Anyone else feeling a bit not only about the Coronavirus of course but also any holidays you’ve booked and (hopefully) going over the next few months!
Should be gong to London during the Easter weekend but I’ve got a bad feeling this isn’t going to happen!
Hotel is Premier Inn, paid for, train paid for!
Bloody Nora!!
EarthwormJim9 · 08/03/2020 19:36
No. It’s going to be everywhere eventually
It’ll be just as prevalent in a few weeks all over the UK as it is in other places now
We’re all going to have to face the exposure to it sooner or later so pointless putting life on hold
ElderAve · 08/03/2020 19:39
I have a big trip to a major sporting event the weekend after next. I imagine if it's cancelled I'll be refunded but will lose the cost of the train tickets. I don't really expect to be going but won't cancel unless they do.
We also have a weekend away on the South Coast booked for Easter, I'm still expecting to go on that, it wont be any worse than my usual day to day life.
NeutralJanet · 08/03/2020 19:39
I've booked a self catering cottage for Yorkshire in July, normally I would be paying up the holiday balance by now but I'm going to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks, I've got until May to pay it off. I'm thinking it might not be worth going if coronavirus means that most of the local attractions we like to visit in the area, Flamingo Land, indoor water park in Scarborough etc will be closed.
diamonddandelions · 08/03/2020 19:40
We've cancelled our Easter holiday but that's because one of our group has kidney failure and they are more at risk than most.
tiredanddangerous · 08/03/2020 19:45
No I’m not at all concerned and won’t be cancelling any planned trips.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/03/2020 19:46
Yes. I'm supposed to be taking DS to Butlins at Easter, it will be a hot bed of germs.
I'm not concerned about us getting the virus as I'm young and in good health and it doesn't seem to be affecting children of DS's age much. But having to self isolate will be difficult as I need to work and can't do it from home.
Not sure what to do at the moment but we will see what pans out.
eurochick · 08/03/2020 19:51
We are supposed to be going to center parcs in April. I'm not sure it's going to happen tbh.
okiedokieme · 08/03/2020 19:57
No, I split myself between two parts of the country, I use a car, there's no risk to anyone else
SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2020 20:05
I’d still go even if the numbers keep rising but financially I’m worried we wouldn’t be refunded if for instance London was in ‘lock down’!
SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2020 20:06
@Stronger76 could I get travel insurance for uk travel? Tbh I’ve never thought about it before, abroad yes but not in this country.
ElderAve · 08/03/2020 20:08
Yes you can buy travel insurance for UK but there are exclusions for short trips and I doubt travel would be covered where an event was cancelled.
SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2020 20:09
@ElderAve thanks, think I need to take this out.
Any recommendations?
SamSeabornforPresident · 08/03/2020 20:11
I doubt travel insurance will cover you now as when you took out the policy you knew there was a high chance of disruption.
Gyptian · 08/03/2020 20:11
We’ve booked to go to Wales over Easter. I’m not too worried about exposure to the virus as we’re probably more likely to be exposed in the city where we live. However, I am a bit worried about what we would do if OH fell sick with it whilst we were there. I don’t drive so I’ve no idea how we would travel back home if he wasn’t well enough to drive.
Stronger76 · 08/03/2020 20:25
Meercat for UK travel insurance. Just a few quid for a few days' policy. If you've booked and paid for a break (travel costs, hotel, attractions tickets) we'll worth covering. Check the excess and exclusions though
AlexaAmbidextra · 08/03/2020 20:31
I’m off to north Norfolk at the end of the month. There’s no way I’m cancelling as things stand at the moment. It’s to a hotel with just twenty rooms so not massively busy.
diamonddandelions · 08/03/2020 20:32
We were going to Centerparcs in Woburn - that's why we cancelled, very popular with people from London I expect!
lifeisntgoodritenow · 08/03/2020 20:32
Am supposed to be going to student applicant day next weekend with dc, debating whether to cancel or not as dc has serious asthma(has been hospitalised by a simple cold before) and there will obviously be people there from everywhere.
Sunshinegirl82 · 08/03/2020 20:39
We are going to Butlin's in a few weeks. No plans to cancel.
GabsAlot · 08/03/2020 20:39
If its on lockdown then the hotel will refund you it wont be your decision not to go will it
Gertie75 · 08/03/2020 20:43
We're booked to go to Splash Landings at the end of the month for DC's birthday.
Shockers · 08/03/2020 20:45
I’m supposed to be going to a concert in London in a fortnight’s time- travelling by train. It’s all paid for. I’m hoping to go still.
DH has a job booked in Tuscany in May and I was going with him- I think that will be cancelled. He’s a wedding supplier and couldn’t really afford to self isolate for two weeks afterwards, as he’s self employed. I very much doubt that the wedding will be allowed to go ahead anyway.
SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2020 20:58
I’ve just taken out uk travel insurance, so hopefully this will cover all bases. It just stated if the FSO has advised not to travel you won’t be able to claim but they haven’t so fingers crossed I’ll get my money back if we’re in lock down!
