Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

I have been buying extra items with each shop since January, to try and make sure we have enough food and necessities to last us for three or four weeks if we need to isolate. Probably need to add some things to the freezer this week, do some cooking especially, as we have only bought a few extras each time, so I think we could easily do two weeks now, but need some extra things to make sure we could do four.
I think the loo roll thing is because people have been told that the shelves are empty, so when they see it they buy a load, just in case they can’t get any for weeks. We needed some today, but all had sold out, so I had to get some out of the reserve cupboard.
We have only bought one extra pack each shop, over the past five weeks.

bondgirl76 · 08/03/2020 19:26

That isnt going to happen. This is serious. And going to get a whole lot worse..More important thanloo rolls

leopardprintlara · 08/03/2020 19:33

I don't understand the loo roll...it's not going to keep you alive. I think media has made people think they need it. Food, Not bu...I understand buying enough tins, pasta, frozen stuff to last a couple of weeks. Greed worries me though. Some won't be prepared and get caught short. Think the supermarkets are now rationing items per person.

willowpatterns · 08/03/2020 19:37

I happened to be walking past an enormous stack of toilet rolls in my local Morrisons this afternoon, and overheard a conversation between some other shoppers. One of them said "You should have seen what it was like in Costco this morning, people were buying loads and loads of toilet rolls, it's ridiculous."

shinyredbus · 08/03/2020 19:38

The shelves here where I am are full.

clareken260 · 08/03/2020 19:40

My local Asda yesterday didn't have any bigger multipacks of toilet roll, and only a handful of 4 packs, and only their own brand. They didn't have any of their own brand baked beans, and less than half a pallet of smart price. Low on rice and pasta too. Bread wasn't too bad, but low on gluten free bread.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 08/03/2020 19:41

public health England advice is to stockup for 2 weeks in case you need to self isolate...fail to prepare ... prepare to fail. Can you link to this please Maureen17?

Fr0g · 08/03/2020 19:43

inadvertent stockpiling - I was shopping, first supermarket had no loo roll, went to B&M an the only had giant packs, but bought one rather than try another store.
I think it's 18 or 24 rolls - if 24, I probably have six months' worth.
Less if I self isolate and am here all day though.

leopardprintlara · 08/03/2020 19:50

@Oscarsdaddy Australia make 60% of their own loo roll. Kimberley Clark.

TabbyCatPaws · 08/03/2020 19:58

Quite honestly I'm amazed I'm still alive. I haven't stockpiled and I'm still going to work and living as usual. No zombie apocalypse here Hmm

earnshaw47 · 08/03/2020 20:06

what is it about toilet rolls anyway, are people expecting to be isolated for months, just dont get it, us normal people who just buy as normal now will find we wont be able to find any toilet rolls

KinderGurl · 08/03/2020 20:10

Are people panic buying toilet roll, because they think they are going to get the shits?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 08/03/2020 20:14

Sums it up

This panic buying is ridiculous, had to go to 6 diff shops just to get loo roll
bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 20:15

@KinderGurl no, it's because they don't want to be stuck at home in self isolation without bog roll.
Surely that's obvious.

Petrachat · 08/03/2020 20:23

Yesterday panic bought , jars of morels , creme fraiche, rice and pasta.

ShakespearesSisters · 08/03/2020 20:25

I know, 48 rolls of Andrex (special offer) lasts about 3 months. "Who gives a crap" is good value, there is more on a roll, its tightly wound. You can get it delivered more frequently. I think it's better value, all recycled, half profits go to replanting trees and no plastic wrapping, all comes in recycled boxes and paper tape.

orangetriangle · 08/03/2020 20:33

local asda today had no toilet rolls no anti bacterial anything no liquid handicap and very few bars of soap and def no hand jel

orangetriangle · 08/03/2020 20:33

*handwash

HeronLanyon · 08/03/2020 20:34

I confess I have bought a lot of rhubarb and ginger over the last few weeks and done a lot of compote cooking/freezing. That’s about the limit of my anti social buying. I didn’t see a huge demand or queues for rhubarb so hoping I’ll be forgiven.

To be honest I still have quite a bit of tins/pasta/olives capers coffee etc in my original brexit boxes (March ‘19).

ColourMyDreams · 08/03/2020 20:50

One of my sisters owns a nice country pub.
She stocked each cubicle with loo roll, plus spare.
Every single one disappeared along with the handwash at the sinks.
A neighbouring pub phoned her to tell her that the same had happened to them!
Absolutely ridiculous!

Itwasntme1 · 08/03/2020 20:53

I am down to my half last bottle of hand sanitiser.

The little carer bubblegum one. Carex must be making a fortune.

TheRealMcKenna · 08/03/2020 20:53

This made me smile...

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/03/2020 20:56

DP did a Costco a couple of weeks ago and we split a job lot of bog roll because it was on offer. She also got me a 6 pack of liquid soap. She then went back the next week to get something else and the liquid soap was on offer so she got me some more, so now I have 12 bottles of soap and about 20 bog rolls left. Me and DS use about 2 per week btw, although it goes up when DP is here because I think she eats the bloody stuff.

I look like I’ve been panic buying but I haven’t.

I also have a drawer full of paracetamol and ibuprofen, but again, I’ve been buying it in dribs and drabs for the last few months because I noticed there was an inconsistent supply in the supermarket.

I’m a bit fucked for food though. I have 4 cans of beans, again because on offer but apart from that I have my food for the week. well, I’m not sure actually. I’m doing a spag bol, but DS has been chomping on uncooked pasta so I don’t know if there’s enough left. I’m sure my local Spar shop will have some though because they’re so bloody pricey.

Yesterday when I went round the local shops all the soap, hand sanitiser and loo roll shelves were bare. I didn’t check pain killers or store cupboard items, although I expect that was the same. I made my own hand sanitiser out of surgical spirit and lavender oil I already had. I did have to buy some Aloe Vera gel, which was the last on the shelf. Oh, there was no surgical spirit to be found either.

Was just thinking if my door was locked for two weeks right now with no notice I’d be fine - bit if an odd diet but fine. It made me think of all of our older/isolated neighbours. I’ve let mine know they are to feel free to call me if they are worried or if I can pick up anything for them. The three I texted all replied saying ‘stuff and nonsense - no worries here - all hype’ then - ‘but thanks so much for the offer’. Think it may be very worrying for others and we need not to become self absorbed.
