Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

Panic buying is really maddening - I'm going to Europe for a couple of days and wanted a bottle of hand gel or wipes, but couldn't find any at all. Somehow people always buy loo rolls in time of imagined crisis.

In case they're out of the children's liquid, weigh your son before you go and ask the pharmacist if there's any alternative. Depending on his weight, it might be that they have adults' liquid in stock that can be administered in a small enough dose for him.

FelicisNox · 08/03/2020 18:22

Is this an up north problem as it doesn't seem to be an issue down south?

Genuine question.

If so, we can draw our own conclusions.

Supermum29 · 08/03/2020 18:24

I find the panic buying so utterly ridiculous!!
I didn’t think we had any issues here until I went on the food shop today... supermarkets are massively playing upto it though and had bleach, antibacterial wipes, detol, soap and so on on special offer at the end of every isle!!

Ethelfleda · 08/03/2020 18:26

Analysis from Liberty Marketing has found UK own-brand hand sanitisers are being sold on eBay for huge mark ups, with Lidl 49p sanitisers selling for as much as £24.99 online

And as for this utter crock of selfish bastards - I actually hope they get Coronavirus.

Ahem. Well that was cathartic.

maureen17 · 08/03/2020 18:26

public health England advice is to stockup for 2 weeks in case you need to self isolate...fail to prepare ... prepare to fail.

Ethelfleda · 08/03/2020 18:27

Oh, meant to say "we don't eat half as much loo roll as women do". Before I get trolled. It's a joke. Well, it was a joke but now I had to explain it, it's not funny. And I know nobody eats loo roll

But ironically, this post is funny.

Ethelfleda · 08/03/2020 18:27

How much fucking pasta and loo roll do people actually get through in two weeks, maureen, seriously?

Emmelina · 08/03/2020 18:28

There was some in my Aldi today, but only the Nicky 4-pack and they were charging £3.79 for it! I bought some, but only because we’re on our last roll and actually needed it! Insane, though.

I'm 'up north' and everything is normal here. Shops have plenty of stock.
My SIL 'down south' posted a pic of her toilet roll hoard on FB this afternoon.

I'm drawing my own conclusions.

sleepingpup · 08/03/2020 18:32

Presumably, you only need to ‘stock up’ more than usual if you actually have to self isolate? How many people does this actually apply to?

Genuine question.@Ethelfeda

If we follow the precedent of other countries that have Coronavirus the numbers here will increase.

So if suddenly you find out you have to self isolate - ( because for example someone at works sister has got it and they saw each other last weekend and you sit next to her)
Do you rush out then and buy what you need to stay at home for 2 weeks?

MrHodgeymaheg · 08/03/2020 18:32

Unfortunately, no amount of calling people ridiculous or selfish is going to stop panic buying. I think that's why many people have already started to do it. I think if you have young kids, you are probably going to get some extra bits in just in case. We are responsible for our children's well being after all, and many of us don't trust a government who can't even create a system that makes benefit payments occur on time, leaving people starving, so it's understandable people don't trust a government to deal with an escalating crisis either.

You also have to remember quite a lot of people get paid at the start of the month too. It may have been different if this week was the week before payday.

mollypuss1 · 08/03/2020 18:32

@FelicisNox I’m drawing my own conclusions about you after that comment

I’m ‘up north’, went shopping today, bought toilet roll and hand wash no problem, plenty on the shelves and no one panic buying. Bloody northerners not sticking to your stereotype!

OtherVoicesOtherRooms · 08/03/2020 18:34

I even bought some anti-bac hand gel at my local chemist yesterday afternoon. They had loads of the stuff.

AllPointsNorth · 08/03/2020 18:39

FelicisNox I’m as far south as you can get without falling in the Channel and panic buying is rife.

MrHodgeymaheg · 08/03/2020 18:41

public health England advice is to stockup for 2 weeks in case you need to self isolate...fail to prepare ... prepare to fail.

Well I suppose people can't argue with that. I do wonder if people just assume a lone man with a pack of 16 roll in his trolley is hoarding, when he could be the father of six kids! You can't really assume an individual is panic buying. They could be also buying stuff in for elderly relatives. That's why I find it bonkers people supposedly arguing in the aisles.

DoAllMeerkatsComeFromRussia · 08/03/2020 18:44

I think it's seeing everyone else do it that makes you worried there won't be enough left and so you consider it too. I had no intention of getting anything extra but went into Farmfoods to get a few odds and ends before going into Morrisons for the main shop and as I arrived at the till a woman was just leaving with two 24 packs of loo roll and what looked like a similar number of baked bean tins. She made some joke to the cashier about not shopping very often but we all knew what she was up to. But now at the back of my mind I'm wondering if I should have got some. I've got enough for the next 2-3 weeks easily and plenty of kitchen roll but I think if morons like that buy 48 rolls at once will there be any left when I need it?

Mumgonenuts2020 · 08/03/2020 18:54

I buy on ocado and forget to take toilet roll off the list Normally. I have ordered 24 rolls for this thursday😄 And supposedly still in stock. 😄😄 that is while the isles are empty everyone is panic and buying online.

ShakespearesSisters · 08/03/2020 18:56

It seems in short supply here too along with a lot of other stuff. Luckily my "who gives a crap" delivery of 48 rolls (takes us 6 months to get through) turned up last week as I was down to our last 2 rolls

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 08/03/2020 19:09

48 rolls for 6 months! More like ‘who has a crap’!

SirVixofVixHall · 08/03/2020 19:13

How do 48 rolls last you SIX MONTHS ??? Lasts us a couple of weeks !

wooda180 · 08/03/2020 19:19

Our local tesco has run out of pasta, tinned hot dogs, tinned tuna, paracetamol, handwashing and sanitizer. I did see someone with 10 packs of 24 loo rolls and what must've been about 15 different bottles of anti-bac/disinfectant. It really is stupid.
