Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

I just tried to book my usual food delivery for Monday & the whole day is unavailable - great now can’t get all the fresh stuff I need for DS’s packed lunch! 😠

Notopel · 07/03/2020 14:22

Did the usual weekly shop split across Aldi and ASDA today. Both busy and with extra staff for checkout and restocking. Aldi was quite well stocked. Managed to get conchiglie but not spaghetti. Very low on loo roll there though and I managed to pick up the last pack of the type we normally buy. ASDA had low stock similarly on loo roll, no hand sanitizer or non branded painkillers. Wasn’t able to get usual paracetamol and ibuprofen for migraines and I begrudge paying £££ for nurofen etc. I will of course be regretting that when I have a 2 am migraine. Baby aisle very low stock - could see that wipes and nappies were depleted. Unable to get usual vegetarian frozen options but there was still stock of other brands. Low stock on frozen vegetables even branded items like birds eye peas. In both stores the staff looked wiped out already, and it was only 11 am.

*If people were that worried about catching Coronavirus, you would think they would avoid large social areas.

Like supermarkets.*

well, I think people must be avoiding supermarkets as I've recently swapped back to sometimes shopping online at Ocado and getting a delivery slot is almost impossible. You need to order at least 3 days ahead. And quite a few things are out of stock - whether that's panic buying or supply chain problems, I couldn't say. The plain Mcvities digestives were particularly annoying as our house can't function in the mornings without all of us having one to start the day!!!!

TheRealMcKenna · 07/03/2020 14:26

We must be the only people in Britain who still have a bidet.

I feel quite smug.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 07/03/2020 14:29

Anyone remember the fuel shortages a few years ago when lorry drivers were protesting? Exactly the same sort of thing then. Human behaviour doesn't change I suppose.

BogOffWinter · 07/03/2020 14:32

Three different shops for cat litter here! EVERYWHERE is sold out of wood pellet litter, ended up with a plant based litter from B&M that has a pic of Garfield on the front. The cats are not pleased and refuse to go near the litter trays. Who the heck is panic buying all the litter and why?!?

SickOFant · 07/03/2020 14:35

I don't get the panic about bog roll. For me that's the one thing I can do without - I'll just wash my arse with a flannel which is likely better than bog roll anyway.

Senga67 · 07/03/2020 15:11

Babdoc. Do you shop 8n Tesco by any chance?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 07/03/2020 15:14

We just went to the wholesalers

No hand wash...loads of bog roll

But...dh bought a jar of pickled eggs and ds2 thought we were panic buying eggs Grin

Actually not a bad idea to be fair...but i hate pickled eggs

TheGreatWave · 07/03/2020 15:38

A woman near me at the fresh milk bought 3 x 6pts and the 4 pint bottles were a bit sparse

I buy milk on that scale I guess it would look like I was panic buying, when in actual fact it is about 3 days worth. (DS ASD cereal eater)

FrenchyQ · 07/03/2020 15:55

We went to Costco Thursday night and they had no loo roll whatsoever

timetest · 07/03/2020 15:56

Called into Tesco today to pick up a couple of items I forgot to buy on my usual big Friday shop. Yesterday the only thing they were out of was hand sanitizer, today there was no loo roll and only a couple of packets of pasta. Panic has hit my bit of Kent.

PickAChew · 07/03/2020 16:01

I went to our local big sainsburys and markses, yesterday, and both were pretty well stocked. Sainsburys even had some gigantic packs of pasta on one of the gondola ends.

OhLook · 07/03/2020 16:17

I have a headache and was unable to buy any paracetamol in the two small shops I could be bothered to go in (One Stop and Sains local). I can't take ibuprofen with another medication I take, so it's annoying.

I've got some ridiculously expensive 'fast acting', big brand type ordered with my shopping delivery next week, but who knows if it will turn up. It was the only one they had in stock on the site.

cologne4711 · 07/03/2020 16:18

Aldi did have signs up saying bulk buying wasn’t allowed

I bulk buy coffee when I go to Lidl - 8 packs or so at a time as I don't like shopping there because of the queues so go infrequently. Do you think coffee would be included :)

cologne4711 · 07/03/2020 16:19

There were shortages of painkillers before this weren't there? People were talking about it at the end of last year and blaming it on Brexit.

SpeckledyHen · 07/03/2020 16:34

Waitrose loo roll aisle this morning . And no idea when they will be getting any more .

PickAChew · 07/03/2020 17:02

Update: DH went to that same sainsburys and all the shelves of soaps and hand-wash and cleaning products had been stripped.

Roselilly36 · 07/03/2020 17:19

Xmas with bells on!

sadwithkiddies · 07/03/2020 17:38

Went for my normal shop....aarghhh.. no loo roll, liquid soap, hand gel (my dd has a medical condition so a normal buy for us), no flour, no pasta, no paracetamol....
I suppose I can glug Calpol if needed!

It's all bonkers. What's up with the no loo roll?????

SW16 · 07/03/2020 17:46

All the big supermarkets in Streatham were empty of toilet roll and dried pasta today.

Why are people particularly expecting shortages of toilet roll and pasta?
Confused

Unmentionablesandfluff · 07/03/2020 18:07

I think I read somewhere that part of the Coronavirus is diarrhoea, at least initially. So that might explain the loo roll. That or the prospect of six weeks in quarantine at home...

chomalungma · 07/03/2020 18:31

It's interesting to see that mackerel in tomato sauce has gone but other mackerel is available.

Kind of interesting to see what the popular brands are.

I'm amazed at all these. I live in Suffolk and I've just been to my local co-op and it's just business as usual. No empty shelves and no shortages of anything. Same with Sainsbury's this morning. I do have an amazing Brexit/Coronavirus cupboard though, which I've collected over the past 12 months. I'll continue to do so but I won't buy if there appear to be shortages. And if there are serious shortages I'll give stuff to friends in need.

Anonymously of course. I'll leave it on their doorstep. First rule of a Brexit cupboard is don't tell anyone about it.

Perhaps I need to get out more.

TypingError · 07/03/2020 19:00

I think that might be an idea that's transferred from the expected Brexit problem. Toilet paper is one of the few things that takes up a massive amount of space in warehouses for quite little return, so they only ship in what they need to store for a normal day's purchasing. Into the warehouse, then straight out again to shops, ready to receive the next lot tomorrow. If a few bog paper lorries are delayed getting through the ports (because Brexit) there'll be no rolls in the shops tomorrow, and maybe even the day after and the day after that.
Cue a major bogroll shortage.

That is my reading of the situation. People confusing Brexit with coronavirus.
