Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

These people who were stock piling over Brexit???? Just why? There was no need

Well there clearly was a need. I now have a decent stockpile of stuff which I wouldn't have had, if I had not been preparing for a no deal Brexit, every cloud and all that. It does mean I have two large packs of loo roll so not worrying for the moment (plus loads of bars of my favourite soap and cereal, pasta and rice).

Marmite27 · 07/03/2020 12:21

think the panic buying is mainly going on in more affluent areas from what I've seen - "beggar thy neighbour" probably explains why they have more money than Ms Average

I went to the supermarket in a ‘naice’ area, last night simply because it’s bigger and I can get everything in one go. No pasta, rice, tomatoes, beans or weetabix, along with the usual suspects of soap, hand wash, cleaning sprays and wipes, loo and kitchen roll and tissues.

They did have some store brand ‘calpol’ but not much, all other painkillers and vitamins gone.

A mile or so down the road in the less ’naice’ area everything was in stock, in two smaller stores. Plus Aldi’s bottles of hand wash are huge and cheaper than the ones we had. My 4 year old has discovered that she likes washing her hands after we bought a step for the sink, so needed more for both loos.

Aldi did have signs up saying bulk buying wasn’t allowed. 2 max of everything scarce. I didn’t need loo roll as we bought 12 last week to stock the cupboard, and there’s one stuck at the top of the wardrobe I can’t reach, but would if we got desperate Grin

I'm sure it has a lot to do with when people go to their supermarket - if there has just been a delivery, then of course they won't get what people's problem is. It could take several hours before there's the "empty shelf" photo posted up on Fakebook.

It's current a peak time for hype on social media, it will be something different when people get bored of the "yes/no Tesco's sold out toilet roll" debate.

Seems all over here, just bog standard mixed areas.

daisychain01 · 07/03/2020 12:29

You'll have to put a dayglo PostIt note on your wardrobe @Marmite27 just to remind yourself of your stray toilet roll otherwise you could forget about it and remember in 10 years' time when you move house or redecorate. Then it'll be a nostalgic ".....wow, I remember those Corona toilet rolls, them's was the days....."

Marmite27 · 07/03/2020 12:31

Did my weekly shop this morning at Asda Tamworth. No paracetamol on shelves but in store chemist had plenty of 32 packs. No hand sanitiser too. Plenty of loo roll, pasta and rice had fairly low stock. What I found strange was no ASDA dishwasher tablets just all the expensive stuff, similarly the antibacterial wipes.

That may have been me Blush I said I needed some and my mum and MiL said they did too, so could I get them some too. I bought £30 worth Grin

Still if the worse happens I’m not washing up by hand!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/03/2020 12:31

In my affluent south east area, no toilet roll in two medium sized branches of Waitrose. Dh asked in one about sanitiser and they aren’t getting any in for at least 13 weeks, she said. Staple shelves with goods like pasta, rice, tinned fruit, nurofen were bare but not totally empty.

Nameofchanges · 07/03/2020 12:39

If people were that worried about catching Coronavirus, you would think they would avoid large social areas.

Like supermarkets.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Just been to my local Sainsbury's (South Coast). DH decided he wanted a tin of Stagg Chile for dinner tonight (!??) - the tinned food section was practically empty and there were only 2 tins of chile left, both with dents in the can! I bought one.

No loo paper or tissues (one elderly lady was asking staff, who said they don't know when getting more - she was on the brink of tears and I felt very sorry for her), no soap, paracetamol, hardly any toothpaste (why?), low on butter too and dog food!

I just want and hope that things get back to normal - I think most of this year is going to be a write-off - I usually love shopping, even food shopping, but today I just didn't want to go.

Wolfff · 07/03/2020 13:17

DH just reported that our local big Sainsbury was as busy as Christmas week. There was loo paper but not much and staff were restocking the shelves. No major shortages but the cat will be displeased at own brand cat litter she prefers the expensive one Grin

tapdancingmum · 07/03/2020 13:17

I've done my shop today and apart from frozen wedges I got all on my list. I picked up some toilet cleaner and kitchen cleaner as I had run out. I said this to the girl in the checkout as, now, when you buy items like these people think you are panic buying. The only excitement going on in my Tesco was that one of the roof panels had fallen down and they had a water leak. Made getting past the nappies interesting Grin. They didn't have paracetamol and neither did the pound shop but Boots had loads. Neither had liquid soap either.

MinkowskisButterfly · 07/03/2020 13:22

I shop in asda and in my local store/online they are struggling for soap, pasta, sanitizer, bread mix, rice.

MinkowskisButterfly · 07/03/2020 13:24

Oh and paracetamol and ibuprofen (need atm as I was rear-ended and my neck and back are killing me!).

Unmentionablesandfluff · 07/03/2020 13:25

In Dublin visiting SIL. She was in Boots on Thursday wanting to buy hand sanitizer (shes immune compromised and works in a college so regularly encounters students with dubious hygiene so she always has it). The sales assistant told her that everywhere is completely out of stock, and the next delivery is 160 bottles in ten days time - for all the stores in Ireland. It’s just two bottles per store. She’s now annoyed.

MinkowskisButterfly · 07/03/2020 13:29

Oh and the petrol pumps were unusually heaving both after the school run (about 9.30) and when I tried again later on (about 12.30) not sure what that was all about?!

LightAsTheBreeze · 07/03/2020 13:31

In our large Waitrose(East Midlands), loo roll was almost gone, just some 4 packs left, UHT 6 packs and Dettol wipes had been restocked but going fast, yeast was gone, flour was sparse, tinned tomatoes all gone, cheaper pasta was gone, lots of tissues gone.

A woman near me at the fresh milk bought 3 x 6pts and the 4 pint bottles were a bit sparse, no blue top so I had to buy 2 x filtered milk(on offer). No hand gel or paracetamol.

Tunnocks34 · 07/03/2020 13:37

Our Tesco running as normal. Normal stock except hand sanitiser. All toilet roll fully stocked. Paracetamol also fully stocked

SistemaAddict · 07/03/2020 13:40

My local Asda was completely out of loo roll and soap. I usually get my shopping delivered from Waitrose but go to Asda for certain things as I walk past there 4 times a day. It was like Christmas Eve in there this morning! Crazy queues. I noticed painkillers were out of stock too.

Like @cologne4711 I have a brexit stash. It's a selection of household items and food that I've collected over the past 14 months and kept stocked up. I've worked on the method of having one in use, and one in the Brexit cupboard, possibly two or three depending on how much we use of something. Nutella =3 jars for example as dd eats it a lot. It's been a godsend a few times now at times of illness (single mum so no one to go to the shops), universal credit change over, ex decreasing maintenance, and bad weather. My grandmother always kept a well stocked pantry and I think everyone should have a few extra essentials in if they can. I know a lot of people can't do that though and it took me a few weeks to get the cupboard well stocked as I couldn't afford to do it all at once. It's changed my way of shopping and I never run out of anything now.

LittleSweet · 07/03/2020 13:50

I went food shopping this morning and the supermarket was low on pizza, chicken, wine and beer. Rather strange panic buying. Also there were loads of flushable wipes and boxes of tissues. But no kitchen roll, which doesn't flush. Also it's obvious that people haven't been washing their hands regularly before as suddenly we're out of hand wash.

TheRealMcKenna · 07/03/2020 13:53

Costco was very strange this morning. It was rammed - just like at Christmas. The queues were almost the full length of the store.

Virtually every trolley had toilet rolls in it. There was plenty (loads of massive pallets) but they were limiting to 1 per customer. They also had boxes of hand sanitiser wipes that were limited to 1 each.

There was no soap whatsoever, but cleaning products were fine.

It was all very calm and not like the bun-fights shown on the TV.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/03/2020 14:02

I’ve got the period from hell. I need paracetamol and Ibuprofen every 4 hours the first day or so, cannae get any at three supermarkets so far.

adaline · 07/03/2020 14:07

I'm in Cumbria - just got back from the shops.

There was plenty of loo roll, soap, cleaning products, sanitiser, pasta, tinned food, bread and medicine. Every shop I went in had plenty - all conveniently positioned by the doors but nothing was running low at all.

Rosebel · 07/03/2020 14:11

It's ridiculous. A woman came in to where I work and brought £200 worth of toilet roll. Every customer was buying toilet rolls and I don't understand why.
Our shop was ramned today could barely move from about 7am onwards. And as for home shopping that was madly busy too.
It's crazy.
I don't understand why people panic buy. It's selfish and plain stupid.
