Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

Was in home bargains last night, no loo roll, no bleach, no wipes, food staples low, strange. Like a pp though, lots of Paw Patrol tissues, I got some, as they are actually perfectly fine, going to take a couple of boxes to work as people keep nicking the ones on my desk. (I don't mind, just they run out quicker)

I have just been to our local independent homeward /random stuff shop and they had plenty of cleaning stuff.

I have a Sainsbury's shop coming tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what is missing.

DippyAvocado · 07/03/2020 10:55

These people who were stock piling over Brexit???? Just why? There was no need.

Because now we've seen what happens when people think there might be even the slightest interruption to their shopping habits! And at the moment there isn't even any disruption to supply chains as there would have been with a no deal Brexit, it's just people thinking they might need something so buying up all of the stock. If it looks like no deal will be back on the table by the end of the year, I will be slowly building up a stockpile again, even more so now the coronavirus has shown how people immediately clear the shelves if they think there's something they might not be able to get.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2020 11:00

@SluggishSnail , technically, yes. In reality, very difficult if with kids. I would only probably do it if we had a senior relative in the house.

PancakesNWaffles · 07/03/2020 11:02

No pasta, bottled water, paracetamol or calpol, loo roll in local Sainsbury’s.

People are selfish idiots, honestly.

Rosehip10 · 07/03/2020 11:05

Local big Tesco. All bottled water gone. Ffs taps are still going to work.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 07/03/2020 11:06

Its funny what people think is important

So some posters query why the ‘panic buying‘ toilet roll

I never understand everyone buying all the bread...i mean i like bread, but i could survive without it

A local supermarket had no chicken or yoghurt...why would anyone panic buy yogurt??

(Might be supply issues obviously...but its weird)

EstuaryBird · 07/03/2020 11:06

I was in our local Asda (Kent) yesterday getting my weekly shop. Needed Dettol as DH puts it in his bath. The Dettol is on the bottom shelf by the cleaning products and I don’t think anyone buys it much.

But of course the shelf was empty.....got down on my hands and knees and right at the back there was a large bottle half hidden behind some other stuff. Result! my needs were met.

A couple of aisles later I only caught a woman trying to nick it out of my trolley!!! Words were exchanged. Sneaky cow Grin

dontdisturbmenow · 07/03/2020 11:10

I already have plenty of soap, paracetamol and loo roll etc anyway, aren't these normal every day things most people usually have at home?
No, not really. Most people I know buy enough for a week, no more, because supermarkets are open long enough hours in the week to get what is needed when it is needed, and don't have the space to have 3 months worth of items.

Why would you have plenty of soap and loo rolls?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/03/2020 11:12

OK, the yogurt is funny.

DH came back from the shops the other day saying no handsoap, no hand sanitizing gel (not going to do you any good against a virus anyway if it's antibacterial), no kitchen roll. We're not in the UK, and not in an area particularly badly hit either. Nobody seems to be stockpiling painkillers yet. It's all a bit mad.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 07/03/2020 11:14

EstuaryBird - that sounds like the hickory honey ham scene out of Christmas with the Kranks Grin

How long til DM prints “fighting in the aisle” type hysteria....

Pppppickupapenguin · 07/03/2020 11:16

These people who were stock piling over Brexit???? Just why? There was no need.

Well, they're not the ones who are panic buying loo roll now are they.

Alsohuman · 07/03/2020 11:17

Why would you have plenty of soap and loo rolls?

I always do which is why I’m not buying any more. I’ve got a drawerful of those lovely Italian soaps from TK Maxx and we buy loo roll when it’s on offer so we were good long before the hysteria started.

Itwasntme1 · 07/03/2020 11:17

Painkillers have a use by date. I don’t stockpile medicines, I buy them when I need them.

I usually have a few paracetamol in the house, but wouldn’t have more than one pack. I have now run out, Tesco has run out. I am going out now to see where else has it. You are only allowed to buy two packs at a time, how has a huge supermarket up run out

daisychain01 · 07/03/2020 11:18

We've got a couple of boxes of Lemsip left over from Christmas when we had colds and high temps. I'd use those up in an emergency, OK they aren't paracetamol tablets, but they have exactly the same paracetamol dosage, so I didn't 'panic buy' the 2 remaining boxes of tablets in Boots. I bet we could substitute a lot of OTC meds like this - it shows how the marketing dept make us believe we need a box of tablets for this, and a box of sachets for thst. It's all the same!

And in the case of getting a fever down, Lemsip is great because it's liquid and taste OK so easier to assimilate.

TheReluctantCountess · 07/03/2020 11:22

I went to Aldi yesterday and all seemed normal, except no hand sanitizer. Mind you, I didn’t look particularly hard for it because I didn’t want any.

Picklypickles · 07/03/2020 11:27

dontdisturbmenow - I am on sickness benefits that I get fortnightly, I don't get to do my shopping weekly! I have plenty of soap and toilet roll because I buy big value packs from Lidl, I mean having said that I certainly don't have 3 months worth of loo roll, it will probably be mostly gone before we next go shopping, but 4 bars of soap last ages even with 4 of us using them daily. I have plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen and tramadol and all sorts of shit in my medicine cupboard because I've spent a lot of time being ill and in pain, as has my partner. We always have a bottle of calpol or 2 in the house, kids get a lot of bugs.

Pebbles574 · 07/03/2020 11:30

Having looked through the bathroom drawers and cabinets I've realised we have enough supplies already. Loads of soaps and shower gels (which could be used for handwashing) from hotels/holidays and a variety of cold medicines/ painkillers.

UntamedWisteria · 07/03/2020 11:37

if someone in a household self isolates, are the other members of the household supposed to as well?

No, the advice is that person isolates from the rest of the people in the household. So you leave their meals outside their bedroom door, no-one else uses the same bathroom as them, etc. (Let's hope you live in a house with more than 1 bathroom).

Rosehip10 · 07/03/2020 11:43

Waitrose in South London. No loo roll, hand soap of any kind. No pain killers. No pasta and no tinned tomatoes Confused

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 07/03/2020 11:46

DH said that if all else fails, we can use greaseproof paper and reminisce about our schooldays GrinGrinGrin

TheGreatWave · 07/03/2020 12:03

Why would you have plenty of soap and loo rolls?

I tend to, I buy as I start a new one or get down the old pack. I always have plenty of meds in was well.

It's funny though because on any post where someone has run out of essentials (usually medicine), DC are in bed and they are home alone, there is post after post asking why they didn't have these already in the cupboard.

SunshineCake · 07/03/2020 12:04

I just went to buy a few baking bits in my local big Asda. Loo roll was plentiful, low on non baked beans, low on bar soap, low on water. Paracetamol was empty and I felt sorry for a lady who looked over 75 who wanted some. I would have given her my box if I had picked any up.

I've over bought dog and cat food as they can't make do.

I am yet to speak to anyone who has had trouble buying toilet paper

Genuinely - my local Waitrose has none. My husband went in today and there was none. I went in yesterday and there was none . I've not looked in Sainsburys up the road but assume they've not got any either, as it would be cheaper there. But some people on here say their areas are fine. No idea why it has happened where I live!
