Mrs, if elderly people knocked on my door, and said could they have some, yes.

But we are big users in this house which is why I always have plenty anyway.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 15:34

You see, I think that's fine. I get the packs of 9X5 from Amazon because it's cheaper and then we don't run out but that wouldn't get us far into spring, let alone September. Grin

Michelleoftheresistance · 07/03/2020 15:35

that's why he said avoid getting sick not reduce your meds

It's occurred to me to reduce them, since I take this kind of meds. Sad How exactly are we supposed to avoid getting sick when we keep being told to carry on as normal/it's pointless trying to avoid infection/schools etc to all stay open? If I reduce the meds I won't be able to function enough to work anyway.

Sensible advice from Asthma UK:

SpokeTooSoon · 07/03/2020 15:35

The people with a month’s worth of loo roll, I hope they’d give a few to their neighbours if they asked.

MrsStrangerThing · 07/03/2020 15:36

I am going to call in with some elderly neighbours later and tell them to let me know if they need anything. I am an HCP working mostly in the community so can easily pop in to different shops on my lunch break if needed, I cover quite a big area. Would hate to think of them in need of loo roll/paracetamol etc and unable to get any Sad If I had a big stash I would share, but I don't stockpile.

BloomedAgain · 07/03/2020 15:36

I'm on high dose steroids and can't come off them as too risky for me according to my consultant ( in any case my immune system would still be suppressed for a whike). A friend on a steroid asthma inhaler has been told there's no risk to them. So I'm doing what I can to minimise risk as I am rather caught between a rock and a hard place. I don't have the space for more than two or three weeks of supplies so hope I'll be able to have deliveries (I have limited mobility).
I understand the issue with community testing is that many aren't being tested even if they fit the symptom profile as 111 still ask for link to travel to a hotspot or known case before admission to a testing pod.

MrsStrangerThing · 07/03/2020 15:37

Excellent jumping It is amazing how quickly it gets used, isn't it??? We are all out most days but I notice a huge difference when are all off!

WhyNotMe40 · 07/03/2020 15:38

I've always had an "oh shit" cupboard in the garage of stuff I don't want to run out of (but have too often due to being busy/life). We also tend to take it all as our camping supplies when we go camping just so it gets rotated.
My stockpiling has consisted of making sure the "oh shit" cupboard has one 9 pack of loo rolls, couple of packets of biscuits, tea bags, 4lts X long life milk, 9 tins of tinned soup, 4 x baked beans tins, 2 X long life juice, 1 x packet of pasta.
I'm not sure I count that as stockpiling!

WhyNotMe40 · 07/03/2020 15:39

Oh and a packet of paracetamol and a bottle of Calpol

MrsStrangerThing · 07/03/2020 15:39

Bloomed, please don't be afraid of asking for help if you need it. I am sure neighbours would only be to happy to help. I know I would.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 15:40

This is the difference between having supplies in, gradually built up over months and months, bit by bit and then panic buying.

This is good point to remind everyone about food banks and try and pop something in them.

middleager · 07/03/2020 15:40

Visited PILS. It's barely on their radar.

FIL, 83, former smoker, triple heart bypass is already scoping out his next holiday due to bargain prices and he may even contemplate a cruise .

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 15:41

How exactly are we supposed to avoid getting sick when we keep being told to carry on as normal

I don't know. Sad

MrsStrangerThing · 07/03/2020 15:41

Whynot I definitely wouldn't call that stockpiling. An example is a poster here said they advised their friend to take vit C now. The friend couldn't get any, shelves bare. Poster said 'glad I was sensible and bought one years worth'. They couldn't see it was people like them that caused the shelves to be bare meaning others miss out Confused Who needs to have a years worth in their cupboard?

Skyejuly · 07/03/2020 15:42

I would and have shared my supply but not to those that just take the piss.

HeyPizza · 07/03/2020 15:42

When we spoke to 111 last week because DH was very poorly, they said they're not testing anyone unless they have a relevant travel history or contact with a known positive case.

As far as I know, there are cases that are positive in the community, where there isn't any travel history or contact with a known case.

So it is already in the community, but we were told DH wouldn't be tested, and not to go to the GP/A&E unless he had breathing problems. So he would never be diagnosed with CV unless he got sick enough to need hospital.

How many others like him are there, with symptoms, no known contact, but no testing?

Of course, it could be anything ... but for PHE to assume that it's not circulating in certain communities is misleading, when the testing isn't being carried out to back this up. (Or may be there is testing in only some locations? I don't know if 111 advice is specific to certain areas...)

EnidBlyton · 07/03/2020 15:42

keep washing your hands, keep your hands away from eyes, noses and mouth, now that is hard

Skyejuly · 07/03/2020 15:43

One year worth of vit c is just one tub often. It's not buying loads.
Theres plenty online.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 15:44

Middle to be honest at that age..... Does it really matter?.
I'd rather spend my last months looking forward to lovely holidays, and planning ahead. I'd be getting excited with him and keeping him positive..
.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 15:46

Hey pizza, this is the massive frustration that many of us feel.

BloomedAgain · 07/03/2020 15:46

Thank you @MrsStrangerThing I admit I don't like feeling this vulnerable, I've done my best to keep working etc. I may need to ask for help at some point, so will have to stop being so proud.

MrsStrangerThing · 07/03/2020 15:46

Heypizza, they can only run so many tests so it is of course sensible to restrict them to people in the high risk categories. They will know if there's been confirmed cases in your area, if there aren't it is highly unlikely DH has it so best to save that test for someone who is much more likely to have it. Whilst they continue to do contact tracing there is no point in randomly testing someone who has no apparent exposure. Remember, the symptoms are very vague initially.

If they tested everyone like your DH, other people in the high risk groups wouldn't get tested, that would be a very poor strategy!

orangeicecream · 07/03/2020 15:47

Does anyone know what levels of infections could be reached before we move beyond the "containment" phase. Not panicking just interested. Thanks

ChipotleBlessing · 07/03/2020 15:47

The sentinel programme has started and the figures are included in the test results. It started about ten days ago.
