It looks unprofessional and doesn’t inspire confidence. I couldn’t run my business that way without loosing faith.

They aren't running a business. They are dealing with, as you and others keep banging on about over and over, an unprecedented set of circumstances. Circumstances which need careful analysis before anything is published.

I wonder if someone is in the office saying 'shit, it's 1:59pm, the figures aren't ready, but the Mumsnetters are gonna go batshit again if they aren't out at 2pm on the dot' Grin

tryingtoprep · 07/03/2020 14:53

Skimmed through. It must be all over London. Many undiagnosed cases. Several cases diagnosed abroad now in people who've travelled from London.

About my previous post. I agree the government needs to keep going. I just suspect they want to move themselves out of London.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 07/03/2020 14:54

I don't know whether to feel reassured or not that today's increase is only 43

unluckyagain · 07/03/2020 14:55

Once you step outside your front door you could potentially be in contact with someone with Coronavirus anywhere. It's currently not that likely but you can't know who is carrying it and who isn't. So I see no more risk with going to a restaurant or having a takeaway than getting on a bus, being served in a shop, going to the cinema.

Life has to go on. Don't stop living life. There are always some risks.

And I don't dismiss it as just the flu. I know someone who has it abs has been very ill. But they are recovering.

I'm sure I read that steriods in inhalers on a different basis to oral steriods and that they dont supress the immune system .I'll look for a link .

France is at 716 cases with 11 deaths.

Talk of changing the testing protocol, so only those with symptoms requiring hospitalisation, or HCPs with any symptoms will be tested. All schools closed in two departments from Monday for 14 days. Looks like we’re headed the way of Italy.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 15:00

Which department

FingonTheValiant · 07/03/2020 15:01

Oise and Haut-Rhin

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 15:02

Inhaled corticosteroids do not depress the immune system. Oral steroids might have an effect depending on the dose and length of time (I don't think a 5 day course for an attack would touch the sides but that's a guess I'm not a medic ) but no one should dick around with their meds without speaking to their gp.

Nicepud · 07/03/2020 15:02

Thanks @peridito. I'm only on the oral steroids for another 6 days so I wouldn't be so worried in that case.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 15:03

Also, it's not a simple case of 'steroids are bad' the Japanese are using inhaled steroids to treat the illness.

Nicepud · 07/03/2020 15:04

FourTeaFallOut thank you. I thought I was being pretty calm but reading that about steroids made me freak out a little.

Back to normal now Grin

WorkWalk · 07/03/2020 15:04

@Fourducksate - you are right I know. Thanks Flowers

namechangemania · 07/03/2020 15:06

Still none in my county or my neighbouring counties 🤞🏻

peridito · 07/03/2020 15:07

Haven't found a link but fortunately Fourteafallout has given the info !

Bluebelle32 · 07/03/2020 15:09

I read the bit about asthma and steroids on the Guardian’s live blog, if you’re looking for a source. They were quoting someone.

peridito · 07/03/2020 15:09

For those asking about testing I'm reposting this link which shows numbers per country and says this about Italy .

Italy announced on Feb. 26 that it would relax its testing criteria to the point that contacts linked to confirmed cases or recent travelers to outbreak areas would not be tested anymore, unless they show symptoms.

FingonTheValiant · 07/03/2020 15:09

Surprisingly (well, I think) one of the two new deaths announced today in France was a woman who actually passed away during Wednesday night, so more than 48hrs ago. They update numbers on a rolling basis her, so I hadn’t thought that there might be a 48 hour delay...

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 15:11

I read that the Iranians were giving massive doses of steroids as a kind of preventive measure for everyone, not just asthmatics, and that lead to worse outcomes.

cologne4711 · 07/03/2020 15:12

Who takes over from Boris? Please god don't let it be Priti. She'll set up Corona concentration camps

That is the scariest thing anyone has said in any of these threads! I suspect it would be Raab, though. Not great but anyone is better than Pointless Patel.

happymumof22019 · 07/03/2020 15:12

The Uk Progression looks broadly similar to that of Germany (although I haven’t compared in any great detail). In Germany the cases really started to increase once they hit 250 so we will see if that is the case here too soon enough I suppose.

On a positive note I went through old hangbags and found a good few half used hand held. Maybe past their sell bys but better than nothing!

EnidBlyton · 07/03/2020 15:13

Extracted from the Guardian today

Virologist Chris Smith, presenter of the BBC radio talk show The Naked Scientists, told the BBC in a Q&A with members of the public that, at the moment, the level of circulation of coronavirus in the community in the UK was “extremely low”, and thus the risk of catching it currently “remains extremely low”.

Smith said there was a very low chance of getting infected with coronavirus via items such as parcels.

Asked whether the new coronavirus could mutate quickly into new, even more aggressive forms, meaning that patients would likely not enjoy immunity even after they had it, Smith said that, judging from currently available observations about the outbreak, Covid-19 was thankfully changing shape “only very slowly”.

He added that asthma sufferers taking steroids, which compromise the immune system, should take active steps to avoid catching coronavirus because they are at increased risk of developing severe illness. This was easier said than done, he admitted.

previously i had read about asthmatics but that has been sidelined by those with COPD and or diabetes and heart issues

cologne4711 · 07/03/2020 15:14

Actually given how worried some of us were about this government and its right-wing and anti-democratic tendencies I am glad it hasn't yet gone down authoritarian routes about this illness other than to enforce quarantine. It could still happen but they've not seized the chance to do it, which is mildly encouraging.

EnidBlyton · 07/03/2020 15:14

oh i took so long to get back my query has been asnwered, thank you
