@WaterSheep It’s impossible to find it quickly on google now because there are just so many cv related news articles. But it was fairly widely covered in the press last week

SophieGiroux · 07/03/2020 11:05

Is Milton anti-viral? Was thinking alcohol wipes might do the job as like a lot of you have said, the anti-bac stuff isn't going to work against a virus

Just been to my local sainsburys and the ony things sold out were soap and the smaller packs of loo roll. I can only use fragrance free soap and they had two packs of 4 left. I took just one pack as that was all the soap that was left on the shelves. So in that sainsburys only 4 bars of soap remained on the shelf at 10am.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/03/2020 11:09

Honestly? I don't know, but there is also what a PP said about bacterial resistance with the use of anti bac products.

So basically, it's be damned now or later.

Camomila · 07/03/2020 11:09

Yes, it's diluted bleach Smile. I use milton wipes to clean my phone/the ipad - more sticky DC related than coronvirus related!

Number12 · 07/03/2020 11:10

Let's all embrace 'social distancing' from threads about coronavirus. Go do something useful or interesting - read a book, go for a walk .. stop watching TV, stop looking at your phone - it really isnt doing any good

I am but its proving expensive....having redecorated my kitchen diner, celebrated my dc Birthday at home and currently negotiating a deal on a new car I've been lusting after. But at the end of the day the stats are terrifying whichever way you look at them. The cavalier attitude is going to screw us ever further though!!

AvocadoOwl · 07/03/2020 11:11

The overnight Chinese figures are really encouraging, only 99 new cases (74 in Hubei). I know that there are still restrictions in place but even still, they really are showing that it CAN be controlled.

@ShanghaiDiva am I right in thinking a slow return to work started several weeks ago in some provinces?

fezzesarecool · 07/03/2020 11:11

Genuine question, looking to understand not argue

This is a photo of a nurse who takes a swab for testing cornavirus How by looking at this, can it be said it’s just flu/a cold

Again I’m not saying panic I’m saying surely this means it is serious and it looks like you need to do a bit more that just wash your hands to be prepared?

To me, and I’m happy to be wrong, if it’s just a cold/flu then surely this very high form of barrier nursing to just take a swab is unnecessary then and in fact you want a more contained but slow spread amongst NHS to create a immunity so that they can then have the protection when they nurse the critical

I think you are preaching to the converted on this particular thread @fezzesarecool Wink

mrshoho · 07/03/2020 11:14

I think when people say 'What's the big drama Flu is worse?' They are looking at the number of deaths from flu each year that barely makes headlines. There were around 2000 deaths from flu in the UK in 2019. They see we have had 1 death and think what's the fuss about. What they don't grasp is that if it's left to spread without controls and vaccines then the amount of deaths could be far higher than flu. Also health workers can vaccinate against flu however as we see with China and Italy the covid 19 is infecting the people who we rely on to treat us.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 11:14

Lang I'm with you.

I can't see the sense of forcing mixing grounds of schools remaining open until people drop.
Keep people back now if they can and slow the spread.

All school rules should be suspended. Concentrate on those taking major exams. Everyone else in the school will be fine.

We are in extraordinary situation and need to push aside worries about 5 year old learning to write for a few weeks.

Huge fan of ShanghaiDiva's insightful posts, especially as my DBro & family are expats in Shanghai...& DBro is still there

SirVixofVixHall · 07/03/2020 11:18

Bleach products like Milton, or alcohol based products, are the best to use as they kill the virus, but also don’t cause bacterial resistance. I only have one packet of alcohol wipes, bought before the rush started. I do have some Milton and some Dettol.
I am torn between thinking getting this early on would improve my survival chances, and thinking I want to avoid it for as long as possible to allow for treatments to be developed.
I live in a village, but the houses are packed closely together.

tud41 · 07/03/2020 11:19

@fezzesarecool its obvious really... she doesn't want people to cough in her face. She works in health care so it is imperative she does not get infected as she will be working with many high risk people... Its not like people will be walking around the high street dressed like this soon is it? Looks similar to what a welder would wear [light hearted obviously]

fezzesarecool · 07/03/2020 11:20

AvocadoOwl I know that as I’ve been commenting on previous threads

All I’m doing is asking a genuine question as I’m trying to understand others points of views and perhaps others on here can give insight to what people have said to them

Sorry if I wasn’t supposed to ask

SirVixofVixHall · 07/03/2020 11:20

Yes, I think that perhaps only year 11 and year 13 students should be in school. I have a child in year 11, so exams are a concern, but health is more of a concern to me than exams.

Throughthegate · 07/03/2020 11:20

@SophieGiroux you realise teachers may be among the people who have booked to travel at the end of the holidays (ie the time you think they should now be at work). They would need the time off too. I'm not sure I could compare two extra weeks of a Coronavirus lockdown to a couple of weeks in August on holiday!
But who knows what it will come to.

Malta confirms its first coronavirus case, a 12-year-old girl of Italian origin who lives in the Mediterranean island nation with her family. t.co/5enRCODpse

tud41 · 07/03/2020 11:23

Obviously we could never find out but would be very interesting to know out of those that have died, which ones would have actually died if they had contracted regular flu as well as the majority had underlying health issues as well.

fezzesarecool · 07/03/2020 11:24

And just to explain further, I’m really not well today Feeling very weak and achey

Due in work tomorrow and I’ll probably be fine but give the current situation I called them to give them a heads up just in case and basically I’ve been told they they are stuffed if I don’t go in

Really not my problem, if I’m fine I will go in and if not then again given the current climate why on earth have plans not been put into place

furrytoebean · 07/03/2020 11:26

I thought they weren't closing schools because the WHO said that it wasn't an effective way to slow spread. That what happens when we close schools is that children end up being shuffled around family members and older people end up looking after them.

Steala · 07/03/2020 11:26

How is this affecting anyone with OCD (germ related type)? Do you feel prepared because you always take the precautions others are now adopting, or has it escalated into living hell? I've had several MH issues, but OCD is not one of them, and I'm sympathetic to anyone struggling.

ofwarren · 07/03/2020 11:26

Iran reports 1,576 new #COVID19 cases and 21 new deaths from coronavirus in past 24 hours.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 11:27

Personally, and again thinking out loud, I would have thought easter would be perfect time to slightly extend the holiday, ban all but essential travel esp Italy. And push back.
