Am I....????

OP posts:
PointlessAddict · 08/03/2020 17:33

but if someone on MN says they are going to keep their child off school you decide that the vast majority are hysterical about coronavirus.

And I said that where?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 08/03/2020 17:34

Alsohuman Yes, it is an AIBU thread. It’s right there in the title.

I will be very pleased if it turns out you’re right that there’s no need to be afraid.

userxx · 08/03/2020 17:35

@woodchuck99 I've popped into some of those threads and it's definitely bordering on hysteria, people seem to be whipping each other up into a frenzy. Do you think suggesting to wear a bin bag to go to the toilet is not just a little bit fucking bonkers?

Yes it is bonkers but that is all it is. It doesn't demonstrate that the vast majority of people are worried shitless or hysterical. It just demonstrates that a poster is a bit bonkers.

woodchuck99 · 08/03/2020 17:42

you are clearly one of the hysterical ones and quite clearly one of the post annoying posters I’ve ever seen on MN.

Which demonstrates that you can't tell if someone is hysterical on the Internet. I'm certainly very concerned about coronavirus but I have very good reason to be. You wouldn't be so smug in my shoes either.

Geneva1994 · 08/03/2020 17:43

@woodchuck99 like the OP has said why are you so fixated on ‘vast majority’ Confused

So you think posters are bonkers and we think they’re being hysterical. Who cares what word you use

Geneva1994 · 08/03/2020 17:45

@woodchuck99 I’m not smug AT ALL and you have no idea about my health, another thing you can’t tell from the internet but I’m not getting my knickers in a twist about something I can’t control. I will however take necessary precautions and practise good hygiene!

woodchuck99 · 08/03/2020 17:46

Because that is the title of the thread.

So you think posters are bonkers and we think they’re being hysterical. Who cares what word you use

No I think you can't extrapolate one post. There are millions of people on this website so to pick one post and decide that it shows that people are hysterical is ridiculous.

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 17:47

It’s not one post, the hysteria is bloody everyone Grin

I've just realised who you are though so I do have an idea about your health and your age. You aren't at high risk.

Geneva1994 · 08/03/2020 17:48

@woodchuck99 OP said it’s a daft exaggeration which is quite obvious really. Lighten up

Youngatheart00 · 08/03/2020 17:50

I imagine there are plenty of hysterically upset people in Italy right now and rightly so after the infection and death rate. Tragic and it’s highly likely the same will happen here.

So it’s not a hysterical view to be worried and take sensible precautions. It’s pragmatic.

Geneva1994 · 08/03/2020 17:55

@woodchuck99 erm what? Confused

Alsohuman · 08/03/2020 18:32

Yes, it is an AIBU thread. It’s right there in the title

It says it’s a Coronavirus thread at the top of my screen.

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 18:36

I posted in AIBU but it got moved to the coronavirus topic straight away

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 08/03/2020 18:43

Yes there are over anxious hysterical posters talking about taking their kids out of school and making family change clothes in the porch.
But there are also people like you OP that are minimising the impact of this virus.
No it is not a zombie apocalypse, most people will be fine. But people will die who would other wise have lived for many more years, fragile businesses will fold, tourist companies will go under. It will have an impact and just blithely saying you are not worried as there is nothing to worry about shows that you don't understand what is going to happen.

alloutoffucks · 08/03/2020 18:44

And of course people with underlying conditions or their loved ones are going to be worried. Why wouldn't they?

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 18:47

@alloutoffuck I haven’t said there’s NOTHING to worry about, just that I’m not worried. I haven’t told anyone else how to feel but I just can’t understand the way some people are acting such as people keeping their children off school or locking them in the house for weeks. I haven’t said those vulnerable shouldn’t be worried at all

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 08/03/2020 18:53

I’m married to someone who’s over 60 and has diabetes and high blood pressure. Neither of us are worried. We’re washing our hands more than usual, other than that life proceeds as usual. We’re both fatalists.

Pppppickupapenguin · 08/03/2020 18:54

@Twolittlespeckledfrogs

The only people I know who seem at all concerned are the anaesthetists. And the ODPs.Other medics: it’s just flu what’s the fuss?
Anaesthetists: well if we shut all the theatres and use all the ODPs as ICU nurses then this is how many ICU beds we can make

I too think our theatres will be turned into ITU beds - perioperative nurse here. How long until the drugs run out though? We already are struggling to get even masks and hand gel.

alloutoffucks · 08/03/2020 18:58

@Alsohuman Good for you that you just accept your OP might die and seem able to shrug your shoulders about it.

Alsohuman · 08/03/2020 18:59

What else can I do? I can’t change it.

alloutoffucks · 08/03/2020 19:02

You can say yes I am worried about it, but trying to get on with life.
Instead you sound like you don't really care, ce la vie with a shrug of the shoulders.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 19:03

I'll tell me 85 year old auntie in a care home that she should just be a fatalist and not expect care. My cousins will be thrilled.
Please remember what suits you doesn't apply to everyone.
