I’m not worried either.

And I used to have a zombie pantry. Honestly. I had one stocked incase of zombies/alien attacks about ten years ago. Now I’ve only got two loo rolls in the house.

I don’t know who I am anymore but I’ve not given it a second thought.

GCAcademic · 06/03/2020 19:43

Oh FFS. Another one.

crustycrab · 06/03/2020 19:43

There's a whole topic for this shit

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 19:44

I figured if I posted in the coronavirus topic I would get jumped on by those who are bulk buying and petitioning to get schools shut!

Nope. And you're not alone.

I'm more scared that as a society we seem significantly more neurotic than at the time of SARS, and that lack of balance seems to be representative of the way society is moving in general, particularly in such a short space of time.

I'm not saying catching Covid 19 isn't possible, but context has completely gone out of the window. And the media isn't helping.

ManonBlackbeak · 06/03/2020 19:45

YANBU, most people I know aren't worried and think its all a massive overreaction. Even people who work in the NHS! Its like Swine Flu and Ebola all over again, although to be fair I actually knew several people who had Swine Flu and they are all very much still alive. So it wasn't the end of days event that it was predicted at the time...

There's not a lot any of us can do about it anyway, other than take the sensible precautions of practicing good hygine. Which most people surely do anyway? I don't see what ransacking supermarket shelves of toilet roll and washing up liquid will do either?

Some of the posts on here have been bordering on the hysterical. Absolutely ridiculous. Get.A.Grip!

Agreed. I have it blocked for a reason.

64sNewName · 06/03/2020 19:46

I reckon there are now more threads like this than people with the actual virus.

GCAcademic · 06/03/2020 19:46

There is a reason there’s a Coronavirus topic. It’s because people are sick of countless threads like this.

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 19:47

So true. They seem to be all over mumsnet but I’m yet to meet anyone in real life who’s actually getting hysterical over it.

I'm very worried as we have so many family members in the most at risk group. We have 48 hr trolley waits in our local hospital and I've experienced the horror of sepsis with an elderly aunt.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 06/03/2020 19:48

Oh bore off, do you expect a standing ovation for not being worried?

HateIsNotGood · 06/03/2020 19:49

Apparently there is indeed a Coronavirus Board in the Health Section. Goes to show how quickly viruses can spread (sic), it usually takes more than a few days to get a Board here.

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 19:49

do you expect a standing ovation for not being worried?

That would be great Grin

Do you get worried about seasonal flu or pneumonia or norvirus which are far more likely to kill this group?

Piglet208 · 06/03/2020 19:53

I have not noticed anyone overreacting or having a panic in real life. I think it is correct for the government to plan for the worst in case it does happen as there is a chance it could be devastating. The rest of us should remain alert and carry on until told otherwise.

Mooey89 · 06/03/2020 19:54

Supermarkets here are running out of toilet paper, hand gel, beans and pasta
Honestly the panic worries me more than the flu.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2020 19:57

I'm not worried about the virus itself. I'm worried about the economic consequences if schools and workplaces need to be shut.

I work for a small business. I'm worried about my job, and how I will cope if school shuts and I have no childcare so can't get to work.

crustycrab · 06/03/2020 19:58

"So true. They seem to be all over mumsnet but I’m yet to meet anyone in real life who’s actually getting hysterical over it."

Yet here you are, putting it all over MN. Because you decided that the coronavirus topic is not where the hysteria should stay HmmHmm

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 19:59

@Waxonwaxoff0 blame the 30 thousand who have signed the petition to shut schools!

OP posts:
PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck · 06/03/2020 19:59

I'm not worried. No one else I know is worried either. I'm slightly more concerned for my older relatives, some who have other health issues, but it is what it is.

Doggodogington · 06/03/2020 20:02

I’m not worried for myself, I just don’t want to be responsible for passing it to someone who already has a compromised immune system.

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 20:03

@Doggodogington which is fair enough. I would follow the right steps and self isolate if I thought I may have the virus but until then I’ll go about my life as normal.
