Now the whole country is designated as a place that requires self isolation if you visit and later feel unwell with symptoms that may be the Covid 19.
How likely is it that the advice will change to Do Not Go.

Can't leave the UK earlier due to hubbys work

KoalasandRabbit · 06/03/2020 19:04

You can see how many cases by areas in Italy here:

AGoodPodcastAndANiceCupOfTea · 06/03/2020 19:09

Of course it's not beyond their remit- you deliberately undertook a trip that you knew would make you unavailable for work. They can't tell you that you can't go but they can give you consequences for the actions that you take that affect them directly.

Kawahara · 06/03/2020 19:22

How can your place of work require you to get pre approval for where you wish to travel? Surely that's beyond their remit.

Of course it's not.

You are doing something that you know will make you unavailable for work for at least 2 weeks after.

You go without approval, then you face the consquences when you return.

blue25 · 06/03/2020 19:25

No definitely not

ohmyword20 · 06/03/2020 19:42

I wouldn't. We go to umbria every year in June and have already decided we won't be going.

bbcessex · 06/03/2020 19:50

I think it's within their rights really. They have restricted all work travel to affected areas to reduce / delay impact on the business -they can't blanket allow employees to go to the same places on personal leave.

HolyMerlot · 06/03/2020 20:23

A large group of us are due to attend a close friend's wedding in Central/Southern Italy at the end of May and at the moment, as long as the plane is going I'll be on it. I wouldn't want to miss the wedding for the world. Of course the situation could change to the point where the decision is taken out of my hands by the airlines. Only paid for flights so far as even though the accommodation is booked it's a pay when you arrive situation and no bank details have been provided yet.

TARSCOUT · 06/03/2020 20:41

Colleague going on cruise mid April, joining in Rome. She's still going (hoping to have the ship to themselves).

Hopeisnotastrategy · 06/03/2020 20:50

Absolutely not . Other places may be ok, but at the minute going to Italy is Irresponsible and asking for trouble.

orangetriangle · 06/03/2020 21:05

I wouldnt go anywhere right now not worth the risk

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/03/2020 21:29

That map isn't very useful and interesting thanks.
No cases (yet) where we are going but some showing in the airport city.

@KoalasandRabbit - thanks for the map! Hadn’t seen that.

We’re in the same position as the OP - booked to go to Paris and Italy over the Easter holidays, including 2 nights in Venice, then a week in Naples. If we kept the Paris leg, it would cost us £339 to rearrange the other travel. If we rearrange everything, it would cost £459. If we cancel everything, £843. Fortunately we could cancel all the accommodation for free, it’s just the trains/one flight which will cost us. Plus the massive disappointment for us and the DC of not going on our main holiday this year.

Thinking we might keep the Paris bit and rearrange the Italy bit. But very hard to know what to do for the best, especially since Foreign Office advice isn’t advising against travel. Meant to be going four weeks today 😬!

Been trying to think what we could do in the UK as an alternative - live in Herts but willing to travel anywhere. We regularly do self-catering cottages in the UK but trying to think of something a bit different/exciting. Looked at Center Parcs which is two grand for a week over Easter, not including any activities! 😱Anyone got any ideas?!

UntamedWisteria · 07/03/2020 09:34

no, unless exceptional circumstances.

Family wedding, funeral, pre-booked tickets etc.

madeyemoodysmum · 07/03/2020 09:39

No. I came back from northern Italy just before it kicked off. We have had hassle since we returned as dd got a high temp and had to be tested. It was negative thank goodness but our GP still refused to see her 3 days after negative results. What's the point of govt guidelines if GPS don't follow them 😡

She seems better now but the hassle and treatment I've had and the boredom of isolation I say no. Not now!

Actionhasmagic · 07/03/2020 09:40

It’s going to get really bad in the next few months. Millions will be infected. I would not go

GoldenPlatitudes · 07/03/2020 09:54

I was meant to be going to milan in a couple of weeks. I had already decided not to go but luckily Easyjet cancelled the flights this week and I got a full refund

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 09:54

I am due to go to France in June. Would you go? I won’t get the money back for flights, but can recoup accommodation and car hire costs up to the end of May.

Wigeon · 07/03/2020 10:02

@GoldenPlatitudes - that’s interesting they cancelled with 2 weeks to go - we are wondering whether to wait and see if EasyJet cancel our Naples-London flight (mid April) and then it wouldn’t cost us the £128 admin fee to re-arrange the date /route for later in the year...

Davincitoad · 07/03/2020 10:08

We have Rome booked for May half term. So sad about missing it but I can’t see how it will happen now.

Littlegoth · 07/03/2020 10:09

Nope

KoalasandRabbit · 07/03/2020 10:16

With other countries I've seen things like flights being cancelled and refunded last minute and sometimes people who cancelled earlier just lost the money. Can be worth waiting.

We have Thailand and Malaysia booked for summer, £2.35k non-refundable and DD school trip to Italy in June which the school insist is going ahead will be another £850 non-refundable so £3.2k could well lose, ouch. So I'm hoping for last minute flight refunds etc.
