President Macron urged French people to limit visits to the elderly, even though this could prove “heartbreaking” at times.

Janemarpling · 06/03/2020 21:17

What does anyone think of the mathematical modelling?

Social distance fir four weeks reduced peak by 25 percent. 8 by 50 but longer made a second peak at the start of winter.

nellodee · 06/03/2020 21:21

GPwife, I liked that Grin

nellodee · 06/03/2020 21:22

Janemarpling, where is this info from? I love me a mathematical model.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/03/2020 21:23

Prof Neil Ferguson said only on Wednesday:

"We think probably 10% or less of all infections in China are being detected at the current time.
....
We estimate that maybe up to 50,000 new infections a day occurring in China
....
We think the delay from when somebody has developed symptoms to when they might dies is as long as 20 days or longer

Janemarpling · 06/03/2020 21:23

It was just on sky news.

TheRealHousewife · 06/03/2020 21:23

Can any one post a picture of Dr John Campbell’s fb profile pic pls? TIA

confusedandtired99 · 06/03/2020 21:23

GPwife I loved that video too. He’s got some crackers hasn’t he?

Wehttam · 06/03/2020 21:23

They must know now just how virulent this thing is to be able to make warnings such as this Bigchoc

Interestingly China didn’t mention this at all, to my knowledge. Certainly not as France has declared anyway.

Wehttam · 06/03/2020 21:27

Global markets are panicking that’s for sure. I have a hunch the supply chain issues may have started showing now along with the effects of restricted travel. Anyone else?

Also, an Italian tourist who holidayed in a resort in the Maldives reported to have tested positive for #COVID19 after traveling back home. Contract tracing of close contacts in process

Temporary travel ban from Italy to come into effect from 7 March, 23:59

ShanghaiDiva · 06/03/2020 21:30

@BigChocFrenzy
As China has started to relax restrictions, I find this hard to believe.
Private clinics have also been allowed to open which also suggests to me there are not 50000 new cases each day.
They are also taking precautions against a second wave of infections from people arriving in China with compulsory quarantine measures.
From a purely anecdotal view I don’t know anyone who has been ill and if there were 50000 cases per day someone in the expat community which covers many businesses, restaurants and schools would know someone who had been ill.

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 21:33

That video is dated Feb 4th?

FusspotsMum · 06/03/2020 21:37

Signed the petition, thanks.

So mildly worded, I would have been tempted to go in with ‘there’ll be blood on your hands and we will never let you forget this...’ sort of thing personally...
