Finally caught up! I've just seen a video of Trump bragging about his low numbers. He said they've got the lowest numbers of "just about anybody" which isn't true.

Has anyone done any modelling on which country comes highest on highest percentage of positive tests? It might give us a clearer picture than the numbers of infected that we don't know about yet.

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 19:36

"This is the most frightening disease I've ever encountered in my career."

Richard Hatchett, the doctor leading efforts to find a vaccine for coronavirus, says it is much more lethal than normal flu. t.co/1tjJ2ed0Hq

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 19:41

Brazil has reported 5 new cases of coronavirus so far today, raising the country's total to 13 t.co/eUoE2b20hL

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 06/03/2020 19:43

That would be Richard Hatchett of a large pharmaceutical company?
It was irresponsible of C4 News to allow him to speak in those terms right now.

MissPoldark · 06/03/2020 19:44

I had an ok day today, but on reading the last couple of pages of this thread my worry has ratcheted right back up there Sad
What are we going to do 😭

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 06/03/2020 19:44

Local news is saying 1-4 cases in Peterborough, confirmed by PHE on March 5th, although not showing up on the official government numbers. And don’t even get me starting on the wording. How can you confirm a vague number? Hmm

Local unsubstantiated rumour alert (feel free to take with enormous pinch of salt) is a couple of cases at Addenbrookes in Cambridge. But that’s very unsubstantiated.

user1471439240 · 06/03/2020 19:44

This cannot be contained now, it never could. All that will happen is the spread will be widened over time, helping the medics deal with a flattened peak of susceptible victims. The hope is of herd immunity.

I can't even 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

@Dusty01 Specifically the twitter post linked by a PP, and the numbers of people in hospital and intensive care.

On an intellectual level, I understand why the numbers are as they are, to an extent, but on an emotional level they are worrying me.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/03/2020 19:46

"Low numbers" because his tiny fingers can't count well

SansaSnark · 06/03/2020 19:47

@UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe The 1-4 thing was discussed upthread, and it's to help avoid people identifying who individual cases are. So, they know the exact number, they just aren't releasing it because it's so low.

A much loved friend has just gone to Italy , I am worried now.

brainfogg · 06/03/2020 19:49

The most terrifying disease of his career? That’s awful and I am so so scared now, I can’t deal with this fear anymore. It’s ruining my whole life gradually.

Quartz2208 · 06/03/2020 19:49

Yes its the same Richard Hatchett.

In fact though the actual interview isnt quite a bad as that quote because he is basically saying its the combination of infectiousness and mortality rate that makes it so. Rather than its lethalness.

we should be more prepared that this. He compared it to Spanish Flu and we have had a 100 years since then and we knew one was coming so why dont we know what we are doing.

@GPwife2411 I agree to perhaps take it down before the scammers get on it. We can direct people via DM if necessary. I wish people would stop posting ineffective vodka recipes online.
Channel 4 was bracing viewing. I wish they'd cover the problems with outdated testing requirements. I hope GPs start to blow the whistle.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/03/2020 19:49

I find john campbell very worrying to watch, as he says he expects 60-80% of people to get the virus

That is the govt worst case
It would cause the NHS to collapse
and a horrendous death toll, even at 1% - which would likely be much higher if many are not receiving the medical care they need

I really hope he is wrong there

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 19:54

6 new cases of #coronavirus in #Lebanon, total now to 22.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/03/2020 19:55

Since vodka has far below the minimum required 62% of alcohol, why on earth would anyone expect that mixing it with something non-alcoholic would work ? Confused

SirVixofVixHall · 06/03/2020 19:55

No deaths in Germany yet, do they have excellent healthcare there ?
The death rate in Italy is really worrying me -over four per cent.

HairyFloppins · 06/03/2020 19:55

Is John Campbell qualified to make those predictions though?. Is he even a doctor. I know he is very experienced and does make good vlogs.

Ciwirocks · 06/03/2020 19:57

I know Italy have an older population but over 4 percent there in comparison to 0.5 percent in South Korea. That can’t be explained by the elderly population alone can it?

AspergersMum · 06/03/2020 19:58

Do we think the DoH will keep up the count at 2:00 over the weekend? Or are we now in the dark until Monday?
