It is standard protocol in national statistics releases, and has been for decades, that numbers less than 5 are not given. This is to prevent individuals bring identified. Hence the use of '1-4'.

Banana0pancakes · 06/03/2020 17:09

I think the 1-4 could just potentially outline the way they are going to present the data.

E.g. 1-4, 5-10, 10-20... 1,000,000-2,000,000 (jokes..kind of)

SansaSnark · 06/03/2020 17:10

@Banana0pancakes They're giving the actual number of cases over 4.

usernameishistory · 06/03/2020 17:13

I have scanned the thread for references to BJ committing £46m to the fighting the covid19 cause.

Can anyone translate this please?

I mean is it a significant contribution? Or a woeful drop in the ocean?

Italy reports 778 new cases of coronavirus and 49 new deaths, raising total to 4,636 cases and 197 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

BackInTime · 06/03/2020 17:14

@ofwarren Eeek

BackInTime · 06/03/2020 17:15

Are we following Italy's pattern in this?

Banana0pancakes · 06/03/2020 17:16

Shiiiiit

mymigraine · 06/03/2020 17:16

Has anyone seen a table for infections by age and comorbidities (not china)

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2020 17:17

Just seen the number breakdown per county and 1-4 cases in my county.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 06/03/2020 17:19

0 in mine but I'm close to two County borders with 1-4 in each Confused

SubordinateThatClause · 06/03/2020 17:19

Why such a high death rate in Italy?!? Either they're underdiagnosing or it's mutated, surely?! Fuck

CaffiSaliMali · 06/03/2020 17:20

I expect the 1-4 is to make individuals less identifiable. Like how the England and Wales baby name data only lists the numbers of babies given a particular name in a particular year once they get to a certain number (I think it's 3).

Local Authority breakdown is better than just a regional breakdown. 1-4 in my large local authority area. Would have preferred a bit more info, I live near the main town of my borough, is/are the case/cases there, or in the countryside?

SansaSnark · 06/03/2020 17:21

@BackInTime I think in some ways it is too early to say if we are following Italy's pattern. It is worth noting that Italy had an early uncontained outbreak in a hospital, which has partially caused the high numbers of serious/critical cases and deaths.

One good thing we are doing is starting testing of all people in ICUs etc with respiratory illnesses to try and prevent this sort of outbreak.

I think more data from other European countries is needed to show whether we will all follow this pattern or if there are things that can be done to reduce the spread.

Horehound · 06/03/2020 17:22

Are there figures for Scotland???

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 17:22

2 weeks ago Italy only had 3 cases 😭

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 17:26

#NEWYORK- #Coronavirus infections in New York State increased to 33 after 11 new infections were recorded

ofwarren · 06/03/2020 17:26

4 new cases of #coronavirus in #Netherlands

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/03/2020 17:26

Newcastle says 1-4; it's been confirmed as 2 this afternoon.

AnneKipanki · 06/03/2020 17:27

11 in Scotland

SansaSnark · 06/03/2020 17:28

Data from wikipedia suggests 20 known cases 2 weeks ago in Italy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_coronavirus_outbreak_in_Italy

However, it's clear that there were a lot more cases in the community that Italy were unaware of.

I'm still unconvinced that is the case here- I know there are some cases of community transmission being caught, but I think we would be catching more if community transmission was as widespread as it must have been in Italy.

From 23/02, cases in Italy were going up in the 100s each day. We aren't seeing that yet in the UK.

Horehound · 06/03/2020 17:29

The numbers on the world ometer just jumped up a fair bit...

CrapTVAddict · 06/03/2020 17:29
