Does anyone fancy giving a basic update on today's situation? I've not been able to follow.

keepmoving · 06/03/2020 16:04

I'm confused... has it been confirmed the Gov will now not release information on location? Having said they would but only on Fridays?

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 06/03/2020 16:04

@namechangemania I thought they’d gone back on that decision and are now?

ShanghaiDiva · 06/03/2020 16:06

I don’t see that not knowing the location makes it worse. In China the virus spread to every province and as there are no control measures in place in the uk, I assume the same will happen here.
Therefore it seems sensible to work on your own plan now- what will you do if you get ill, who will look after children etc. Why wait until a case is confirmed in your city before you start planning?
When I was in China in January we saw numbers go up and up and started to plan what to do before cases were confirmed in the city we lived in.

@mymigraine antivirals for COVID19?

crispycracker that is my concern - that the panic and fear will cause people to overload the system because they just dont realise how bad mild/moderate will be. But at the same time dont leave it so long that a severe case that could be treated with oxygen becomes worse.

That is what I would like to know - at what point intervention is needed to prevent critical

salty78 · 06/03/2020 16:09

We had an alert from Action Fraud today at work about emails from scammers supposedly selling face masks and sanitizer and also about emails saying they are from WHO or other agencies with links to advice.

Be wary of those selling these things online and any emails you get about Coronavirus and don't click on any email links!

peridito · 06/03/2020 16:10

@keepmoving - gov said would cite locations once a week ,on Fridays instead of daily .Lovations are cited but v broad

Children do seem quite protected and don't seem to pass it on as easily as adults do (so closing schools probably not necessary or effective).

And what about the hundreds of parents/grandparents and carers at drop off and pick ups? The caretakers, teachers, kitchen staff, cleaners, volunteers, after school care staff... Surely all these people will have an effect on numbers?

If a parent catches it, do they keep their kids off, what are the rules? We wouldn't have anyone to take them (semi rural).

LangTimeNoSee · 06/03/2020 16:12

Thanks. What a joke - regions are so large.

peridito · 06/03/2020 16:14

@AutumnRose1 sorry I should have said

giving the first 2 letters of postcodes would help me and others who would like a clearer indication of where clusters are located

I don't see much point arguing backwards and forwards about the merits of having a more detail about locations . I personally would use the info to avoid areas and adapt travel plans .

mymigraine · 06/03/2020 16:14

Quartz2208 would have to do your own research but noticed medicines like ritonavir, chloroquine. Will not be available NHS obviously. A shame we are no longer legal allowed to buy medicines online

keepmoving · 06/03/2020 16:15

Oh my locations are not what I was expecting... as some one said if a fatality was in MK but no record of other cases, where's on come from? Likewise in Reading, last week 1 case - a teacher who had been to Italy - then a patient in the RBH dies? Again how did she contract the virus?

If you live in MK or Reading should you minimise social interaction??

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 06/03/2020 16:16

The article in French about an Israeli lab someone linked to before about the vaccine.

saying the earliest in vivo experiments in three months and then minimum 10 weeks to produce a vaccine, not even on a commercial scale so at least 5-6 months even if the in vivo tests worked. It's just an enthusiastic optimist lab who have been reported badly that it's ready in 3 months. So def not news.

Kent live showing one more in Kent, related to the Maidstone case

Skyejuly · 06/03/2020 16:17

The location thing is really sneaky and actually not fair.

AutumnRose1 · 06/03/2020 16:17

peridito oh I see.

My worry is that people in those postcode areas would panic buy even more than now. As I’m in London and using the Tube, I’m mixing with everyone from everywhere.

I can also imagine that releasing more specific location info would lead to people demanding to be seen at hospitals or GP away from there and it would be chaotic.

Abraid2 · 06/03/2020 16:17

A shame we are no longer legal allowed to buy medicines online

Just as well or else the profiteers would be getting hold of them as they have hand san.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/03/2020 16:18

@peridito
It is clear that cases can occur anywhere, so the wisest strategy is to stay at home, avoid everywhere and have no travel plans! This is effectively what the Chinese did, although there were regulations in place to ensure people did exactly that.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/03/2020 16:19

@Skyejuly
What’s not fair about it?

namechangemania · 06/03/2020 16:20

They’ve named the regions but they’re massive so no idea if there’s any cases near me or not!

The numbers of infected must be wrong...the tests are taking almost a week at some hospitals.
