Swindon case seems to be someone back from Northern Italy.

Sue Wald, Corporate Director of Adult Social Services and Health at Swindon Borough Council, said: “I can confirm that one adult in Swindon has tested positive for coronavirus after returning from Northern Italy, and they have self-isolated.

legoqueen · 06/03/2020 15:45

I'm so shocked that Hancock blatantly lied about having had discussions with the supermarkets about supporting those in self isolation. Great that the BBC called him out on it today.

In my fruitless search for hand gel I have seen this stuff on the Boots website, anyone used this & would it help?

Corononono · 06/03/2020 15:45

Been following these threads and really grateful for all the information in them.
With regards to the delay btn testing and results, a teacher at DC's school reported symptoms on Thursday last week after returning from affected area in half term (and the school was closed for a deep clean on Friday). The test was taken on Sunday and the results weren't received until this morning (thankfully negative).
I wonder if there is a similar delay with all testing which would suggest the results are a week behind the actual situation?

Skyejuly · 06/03/2020 15:45

They can not be serious about not sharing location?

BorneFeet · 06/03/2020 15:47

lydia was posting a dodgy link to make money.

You are scum lydia.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 06/03/2020 15:48

he would not come into contact with many people given his age

I visit an elderly lady and she comes into contact with about a million people a week - me, nurses who comes round, 4 generations of family who visit, everyone at the home where her husband is and where she visits 5x a week, plus builders, delivery drivers and neighbours. I'm worried for people like her. Thing is, if she didn't go out and avoided contact with those people, she'd be so sad and lonely and her quality of life would be horrible.

mymigraine · 06/03/2020 15:49

Does it matter how many confirmed cases. Probably near a thousand cases by tomorrow and doubling every five days. We're all going to get it soon.

Littlemissdaredevil · 06/03/2020 15:50

It’s annoying that they won’t share the locations. It’s now been reported that there are a 22 cases in the south west which is a massive jump from the two reported in Torbay a few days ago. The South West is a massive areas covering Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and possibly Wiltshire and or Gloucestershire. I’m my city yesterday people were panic buying. I’m concerned that not reporting locations will make people panic but more!

LangTimeNoSee · 06/03/2020 15:50

NC for this but I work for a medium sized multi academy trust and nobody is management seems bothered or has a business continuity plan for our 20 schools.
HR think it's a lot of drama over nothing and staff are in the dark.

Why wouldn't you prepare even if it was just in case?

bumblingbovine49 · 06/03/2020 15:52

Interesting article here with quite a lot I didn't know It seems unlikely apparently, that there are many asymptomatic cases, though it does seem true that people are infectious very early on and sometimes when they are pre-symptomatic.

Children do seem quite protected and don't seem to pass it on as easily as adults do (so closing schools probably not necessary or effective). The death rate is quite high though - 3.4% overall. Not good news

ShanghaiDiva · 06/03/2020 15:54

@Littlemissdaredevil
Surely the opposite is true : if locations are reported people will panic in those areas and panic buy even more.

Ciwirocks · 06/03/2020 15:55

Are the deaths here being picked up retrospectively? We have had no critical cases according to worldometer but 2 deaths?

Littlemissdaredevil · 06/03/2020 15:56

Obviously not here as the supermarket shelves have been stripped bare at many locations across the county!

Quartz2208 · 06/03/2020 15:58

@HerstoryInTheMaking oh yes this is worse than flu, no immunity, no treatment and a death rate 10 to 20 times worse. My point is though that seeing flu as just flu pitches your starting point as lower than flu itself is. Flu kills and would kill more apart from immunity and vaccinations.

@PotholeParadise I think agree I think when they say moderate they mean will recover with no intervention needed not that you will only feel it mildly. I needed no treatment for flu but I felt really awful. Its this message which needs to be put out - exactly how bad it needs to be for you to need intervention and at what point you should get it.

@Mittens030869 I agree in the past week more people have died from starvation than have Coronavirus. We have become too used to a gilded cage that this comes as a shock to us. Maybe living through this will make us appreciate how lucky we truly are

OldQueen1969 · 06/03/2020 15:58

Have just had a text from my local surgery group saying to use a link for updated info and 111 for anything Corona related but do not visit the surgery. I assume they mean don't visit the surgery if your concern is virus related but only for other things......

Skyejuly · 06/03/2020 15:58

Not knowing location is making it worse

Sunshinesky1981 · 06/03/2020 16:00

@WhyNotMe40

Maybe getting your little one to choose a dress up superhero mask like hulk or spiderman and then let him wear it as a special treat to the park as a sort of game. If its a full face one, it may act as a deterrent to touching his face as much , and you could put it straight in a bag after, sanitise hands and wipe it down when you get home. Would not be foolproof but could cut down on so many hand to face contacts?

mymigraine · 06/03/2020 16:00

Quartz2208 there is a treatment antiviral medicines

crispycracker · 06/03/2020 16:00

@Quartz2208
"Proper flu isnt just the flu "

You are right . So many people have no clue.
They call a cold the flu. Proper influenza knocks you off your feet.
When I have gone down with it 3 times I haven't been able to get up for 10+ days and each time there has been the after effects. Post viral syndrome

namechangemania · 06/03/2020 16:01

Can’t believe they aren’t realising locations

namechangemania · 06/03/2020 16:01

*releasing

buttermilkwaffles · 06/03/2020 16:01

@Miriel

I also like this one (Italian grandmother). English subtitles available via settings.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/03/2020 16:02

Scammers should fuck off from MN - report, report

I wish there were very severe fines to penalise all the profiteering scum, who often emptied supermarket shelves to sell at huge multiples of what they originally paid.

Sometimes the free market sucks and should be stopped

crispycracker · 06/03/2020 16:02

@bumblingbovine49

"Children do seem quite protected and don't seem to pass it on as easily as adults do"

There is no evidence that children are not effiecient vectors for Covid.

Newjez · 06/03/2020 16:03

The smallpox vaccine kills one in a million. That is after removing all the people who can't have it I believe. Doesn't sound like much, but that would be 300 deaths in USA alone.
I'm guessing cv19 will be more like a flu vax, and probably much less dangerous. But they do need to make it, make sure it works, and make sure it won't kill more people than the disease. You don't want to rush a vaccine. These things take time for a reason.
