Yes @YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus and its important to note, because a headline that a vaccine is being developed, or 'discovered' now is somewhat misleading/sensationalist.

I am also still recovering, my gp has seen me and done a veey thorough work up including sats, but is not allowed to test. My symptoms are improving, but im still short of breath. Good luck with yours, try not to worry Cake Flowers

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus
If anyone has a good source I will include it. Govt said they will include location data again (link in OP)

EBAY have already been reported for profiteerings from CV19

Who is this @LydiaPalmer

How do you know these are not just unscrupulous sorts before posting a link here?

says vaccines take 1 yr to 18 months

Much of that delay is getting (a proven effective) vaccine into production with anything like enough doses to have an impact. Even if early human trials demonstrate efficacy it would still be a year minimum before it would be in use with even a moderate number of doses. No-one should get too excited about vaccine chatter.

@Mittens030869
This is why I don't think 163 cases is accurate. I doubt its so widespread at the moment but certainly is spreading undected somewhat.

Mittens030869 · 06/03/2020 15:27

My concern is that we have managed to eradicate so much from the world that we forget how awful some of these things can be. How much are the moderate illness people going to flood the NHS because they dont understand how bad moderate will feel

I agree. But it's only true of the western world. In Africa, millions die of malaria every year and AIDS is still a big issue.

I'm also old enough to remember the days when there was still smallpox and children regularly caught diseases like measles, mumps and whooping cough, and pregnant women contracted German measles and their babies were deformed.

A lot of people are in a panic because they're not used to facing potentially fatal illnesses.

Delatron · 06/03/2020 15:28

Massive uproar on twitter about the department of health withholding the location information.

We get told which towns not to go to in Italy but just vague details here.

I also agree we are not testing enough people now. We know it is being spread across the community. Yet we are only testing people who come back from ‘at risk areas’ and only those with symptoms. Well the U.K. is about to be an ‘at risk’ area. They need to test all with symptoms unfortunately. I’m guessing they are keeping the testing low to make the numbers look low. Shocking. They are playing with peoples’ lives.

I got some hand gel in superdrug today, I just had to ask and it was behind the counter. 2 per customer.

DressingGownofDoom · 06/03/2020 15:29

Saw this on FB. What a massive douchebag.

Delatron · 06/03/2020 15:29

Superdrug in our town took a delivery today. People were queuing down the street. 2 per person.

sudocremanglaise · 06/03/2020 15:30

I get a weekly grocery delivery which came today with no hand soap or surface wipes/spray. I was half expecting it but it’s a bit annoying. Last week not an issue. We get through quite a bit of soap (busy household), and surface cleanser, DH is immunocompromised so this is the norm for us but now we can’t buy regular soap and spray because other people are clearing the shelves... Confused

I’m hoping it will calm down a bit and just popping into shops as I pass them to see if they have any bits left in the meantime. Thankfully we have one or two more soaps left for now, and some wipes. Happen to have a small arsenal of hand gels as we don’t use them as much so I suppose that’s good.

re Hancock's untruth - I posted the BBC tweets about their source this morning:

Simon Jackk@BBCSimonJack (BBC business editor)

*Supermarket exec tells me Matt Hancock has “totally made up what he said about working with supermarkets.
*
"We haven’t heard anything from govt directly.”

Adds - teams are having to work “round the clock” to keep shelves stocked.

Tinned goods, pasta sales “through the roof”

Supermarket said no question of shortages of food (unlike sanitising products where there are shortages)
but there was a logistical challenge physically restocking the shelves
......
The power of Twitter -

New from supermarket source

“Defra now in contact and trying to make it look like they are very actively engaged with industry and CEOs!!”

  • Exclamation marks theirs not mine
HerstoryInTheMaking · 06/03/2020 15:34

Location info should be released if relevant. So for example if say for example Croydon had 20 cases of community transmission than the public have a right to know as its clear that it is spreading there.

Less so for example one case comes back from italy in one town no other transmission.

BIWI · 06/03/2020 15:35

I've reported LydiaPalmer's post - as he/she hasn't posted on MN before, and could well be either a dodgy link and/or trying to profit from COVID-19 Angry

usernameishistory · 06/03/2020 15:35

I was left wholly unimpressed with Hancock last night. Zero trust in him based on his performance last night

It's been confirmed Swindon has a case.

Miriel · 06/03/2020 15:38

This may have been posted here before, but I came across this catchy coronavirus advice song. It cheered me up a bit after reading so much worrying news.

English subtitles can be turned on via the closed caption button. Apparently there's a handwashing dance to go along with it.

Perdito “ Postcodes in London would help ,even just the first 2 letters .”

But how would that help?

Daffodil1967 · 06/03/2020 15:39

Hi,
I’ve been a mumsnet lurker for years but I felt I just had to join to let you know that just looked at @lydiapalmer Link for hand gel.

£14:99 for 100ml

I’m a firm believer in Karma

SpencerReidsMistress · 06/03/2020 15:41

I agree @Daffodil1967

People profiteering from peoples anxieties is just wrong.

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 06/03/2020 15:42

I had flu, proper flu, at Uni. I have never been so ill in my life. Staff at Halls called an ambulance when I collapsed but I still wasn’t kept in because, quite rightly, HCPs said it was a virus and there was nothing they could do.
The system is going to be under such immense strain with people feeling like that. I mean, I passed out, my breathing was erratic, I was dehydrated.......I wouldn’t blame anyone for seeking urgent medical attention if they or a family member felt like that.

oneteen · 06/03/2020 15:43

Personally I think the Government is aware of the case stats 2/3 days before they are released (I think they may be testing twice, or just confirming the first test is accurate by running the sample again).

I am not sure how an elderly patient in MK can die of Covid 19 when there were apparently no reported cases of the virus in MK - he would not come into contact with many people given his age - other than perhaps GP/ Health Visits or Carers and perhaps its GP's/HV/Carers who should also be high priority in terms of testing because these elderly people have not travelled from abroad.
