18 cases of #coronavirus in #CzechRepublic

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 14:51

Ah sorry - they were baggage handlers

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 14:51

Does anyone have the numbers for France?

Lionso · 06/03/2020 14:52

Re cabin crews not being infected. As far as I know, air in most aeroplanes is filtered a lot more than most standard air conditioning. Think you are probably less at risk in a plane than say the air conditioning in a big cruise ship. No help if you are sitting with 2 meters of an infected person though!

alloutoffucks · 06/03/2020 14:52

I agree that is normal after pneumonia. I think a lot of healthy people don't understand that when you have something a bit more serious, it can take a long time to get over it. You can be back at work and look as if you have recovered, but your body is still recovering and you will still feel it for a while.

Wejustdontknow · 06/03/2020 14:53

I work in a supermarket, when I started at 6am this morning we had already sold the 8 bottles of hand sanitizer that had come on the nights delivery, we had very limited soap, a noticeable decrease in the availability of toilet roll, dried pasta and tinned veg/potatoes. People are definitely stocking up and shops are going to struggle with the demand if it continues. No shortage on the fresh aisles though
@tmh88 I’m in South Yorkshire and have seen a post online that someone has been confirmed with it from rawmarsh in Rotherham but I don’t know if that is accurate

Apricotfool · 06/03/2020 14:53

@tmh88

I was just reading this about Yorkshire cases.

Airplanes are filthy though. I have been on 1 cruise, it was a decent line though, and they had cleaners cleaning regularly. Airplanes don't seem to get properly cleaned ever. They are filthy.

Mittens030869 · 06/03/2020 14:53

This survivor describes feeling short of breath still after recovering - she says something like 'I cannot walk for a long time because I feel short of breath and need to sit down - and that's never happened to me before'

That's how it is for me after having having a very bad flu that turned into pneumonia last year. I now have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and it doesn't look like recovery is on the cards for the near future.

So that isn't just an issue with COVID-19.

notimagain · 06/03/2020 14:54

I find it interesting theres been no notified cases of cabin crews, that spend their lives in the air exposed to everyone that has travelled from risk areas and subsequently all tested positive.

There has already been one case, albeit not in Europe..

www.reuters.com/article/us-china-health-korean-air/one-of-korean-airs-cabin-crew-tests-positive-for-coronavirus-idUSKCN20J0GK

I know crew are taking care (hand washing etc) but given the nature of the virus I suspect it’s only a matter of time before we hear about more...

m really torn by this compulsion I have to stay informed and the realisation that having the information changes nothing

It changes your personal agency, and you process this information, like we all have about all the other illnesses we have common knowledge of and decide to travel eveeywhere locally and abroad anyway.

People get information weary after a while also and can take a calmer view once they have what they need to feel safe, for them, or an acceptance or the level of risk v activity.

600 cases in France, 9 dead

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 14:56

Thank you @GenevaMaybe

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 06/03/2020 14:56

Mittens Yes, precisely I also had flu and pneumonia and took a long time to recover - lucky for me I did fully, I'm sorry to hear it is so hard for you. The 'it's only flu' brigade are, I suspect, people who haven't had flu recently.

The point is, if there is widespread infection, some may bounce back but others, even if they recover, won't so easily. Yet another reason to be aggressive in preventing spread (which this government isn't doing in contrast to others).

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 14:58

I definitely feel this - I managed to get my DM to talk sensibly about the risk to her, and have put in place a plan to manage her exposure to the virus. She's going to isolate herself whenever the numbers really take off - there's no cases in her area that we know of at the moment and she is taking very sensible precautions. Feel like a weight has been lifted. Cried a lot when she agreed.

Quartz2208 · 06/03/2020 15:00

@Mittens030869 I agree mine arent the same as they were before swine flu.

That is my biggest issue with just the flu. Proper flu isnt just the flu and if moderate cases are similar to flu the system will have a lot of panicked people not really understanding what flu means

peridito · 06/03/2020 15:01

Lack of detail increases my suspicion of gov handling of this .

I'm not asking for door numbers but really ! Postcodes in London would help ,even just the first 2 letters .

And why cant we be given breakdown of numbers - those in hospital ,those at home ,those recovered ,those that are community acquired ?

Oh I forgot we're all children and can't be trusted not to run screaming into the streets .

Lack of info creates a vacuum which will be filled with misinformation and possibly hyperbole .

scream

My thoughts go out to all those who are currently suffering with confirmed cv19 Flowers

Thank you for that Reuters link, so in all this we have one worldwide.

I understood planes to be filthy (pp and personal.experience) and the air quality very poor and controversial due to levels of evident illness generally emerging.

I went shopping today and they had nearly sold out of hand wash including bars of soap.

If that continues, it’s going to cause some problems with people unable to wash their hands!

Spacecadetagain · 06/03/2020 15:04

I had pneumonia 15 years ago and it took me months to get over it . I was so exhausted I barely left the house for 8 weeks and also developed pleurisy afterwards. A bout of flu in Jan last year floored me for weeks so I think feeling breathless and exhausted after this virus is to be expected

usernameishistory · 06/03/2020 15:04

About 'the flu', 'proper flu' etc

For over 70% of those who contract the flu, the symptoms are negligable or unremarkable.

I agree.

I’m worried that they are withholding testing people to keep the numbers of reported infected people down-to keep us all calm and the economy ticking over.

HerstoryInTheMaking · 06/03/2020 15:04

Just something concerning ive noticed. The UK testing capability seems to be around 2500 a day. This is just not enough, I have a biology degree, at this point testing needs to be on all those with symptoms not just those with travel history to an affected region or contact with infected person. There is a strong indications that community spread is occurring undected as a result.

If containment is what the govt really wants than we need to ramp up testing to South Korean levels of 10k a day.

Thunderpunt · 06/03/2020 15:05

I think the numbers need to be reported in context. If indeed Italy's numbers are high because they have tested more people surely it makes sense to specify numbers tested v numbers of confirmed cases?

Mittens030869 · 06/03/2020 15:05

@Langbannedforsafeguardingkids Thank you. Admittedly in my case there are MH complications connected with childhood trauma that have affected me, but before the pneumonia I was coping.

There's nothing I hate more than hearing people say, 'It's just flu.' People who say that think the flu is the same as the common cold but just a bit worse, with a temperature. There really is no comparison.
