I didn't mean you reposting it, I mean the news in general. Of course we are all going to pour over it, but really until it is confirmed it isn't great IMHO to be speculating about the poor person.

Cheeseismylife · 06/03/2020 13:34

Only 32 new in Germany on worldometer? Seems weird given that there were a lot more than that yesterday....

Another elderly patient has died .. after testing positive for Coronavirus. Late 80s with underlying health conditions in MK . Very sad

fullofteandneedstopee · 06/03/2020 13:37

@FurForksSake I agree, it's a bit premature and will have people needless worrying if it's turns out to be false.

Oakmaiden · 06/03/2020 13:37

@ElizabethMountbatten

I ha e a feeling they are hoping to put off any school closures until close to the Easter holidays - if they close a week before then that is only a week of unexpected disruption (which can happen sometimes with snow) but 3 weeks with no school.

Cheeseismylife · 06/03/2020 13:37

I don't think the map with locations is updating very fast. It shows none for Portugal and they have 9.

RazzleDazzle26 · 06/03/2020 13:38

@ElizabethMountbatten. Yes I think they’ll try to get as near to easter holidays as they can, then after two week break either all back and that will be enough or they will just bring back in those sitting exams

Quartz2208 · 06/03/2020 13:38

I agree I think they will try to see through at least another 2 weeks to get the closure around the holidays

Spacecadetagain · 06/03/2020 13:38

MK online are reporting this but nothing anywhere else . Seems premature . Late 80s already in hospital with underlying illnesses .. it could be anything tbh

FurForksSake · 06/03/2020 13:39

I hope they don't close schools. Those on low incomes will be fucked, a lot have two parents working in jobs you can't do from home. What exactly are they supposed to do?

It will disproportionally affect some groups.

Skyejuly · 06/03/2020 13:39

I also think they are holding out closures due to easter holidays soon.

FurForksSake · 06/03/2020 13:41

I live in MK and someone forwarded me the link to a gov release about the patient and they described it as a likely case.

"A likely case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has been identified on one of our inpatient wards at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

The small number of patients who were on the same ward were isolated on the evening of Thursday 5 March and a deep clean of the area has taken place while we await confirmation of the results from the COVID-19 test.

An extensive ‘contact tracing’ exercise is now underway to trace anyone who might have had close (face-to-face) contact with the patient identified as a possible COVID-19 case. Affected staff are being contacted and advised to self-isolate for 14 days.

Close contacts to the patient concerned will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the next 14 days. This tried and tested method will ensure that any risk to them is minimised and the wider public is protected.

Based on current evidence, COVID-19 presents with flu-like symptoms including a fever, a cough, or difficulty breathing.

Members of the public are being advised to be scrupulous with their hygiene and avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth and use and then bin tissues if they cough or sneeze. Thorough hand washing will help to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The best and latest information on COVID-19 can be found here:- www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public.

All hospital services are running as normal - including inpatient and outpatient services, maternity services and planned operations. Patients with appointments or who need to attend for urgent or emergency care should still come to hospital."

BlueBirdGreenFence · 06/03/2020 13:41

Infectious Diseases unit at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh had the front of the building sealed off and were awaiting an admission about an hour ago. The word on the ground was that it was Coronavirus.

fullofteandneedstopee · 06/03/2020 13:41

Dail fail reporting it as well. Nothing on BBC. Hopefully it's not true.

Mummug · 06/03/2020 13:43

@GPwife2411

111 pages has slightly different advice for Scotland from the rest of UK:
"Getting help in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland
Scotland: call your GP surgery or call 111 if your surgery is not open
Wales: call 111
Northern Ireland: call 111"

That is different to the advise for England, Wales and NI which I thought was interesting, so maybe in Scotland, GP's will be testing?

Thanks for all your posts by the way. They have been very helpful and appreciated.

Random18 · 06/03/2020 13:44

It's on Guardian bit not confirmed. Further testing still to be done

Nicepud · 06/03/2020 13:46

I just wish they'd get a move on with making taking dc out of school for a couple of weeks optional.

Got a feeling they won't though, just in case it causes panic.

hankyspanky · 06/03/2020 13:48

@GPwife2411 here's another update i've just read, I think we all deserve to know this information, don't you?

COVID-19 infection is classified as an airborne high consequence infectious disease (HCID).Definition of HCID,

In the UK, a high consequence infectious disease (HCID) is defined according to the following criteria:

acute infectious disease
typically has a high case-fatality rate
may not have effective prophylaxis or treatment
often difficult to recognise and detect rapidly
ability to spread in the community and within healthcare settings
requires an enhanced individual, population and system response to ensure it is managed effectively, efficiently and safely
Classification of HCIDs
HCIDs are further divided into contact and airborne groups:

contact HCIDs are usually spread by direct contact with an infected patient or infected fluids, tissues and other materials, or by indirect contact with contaminated materials and fomites
airborne HCIDs are spread by respiratory droplets or aerosol transmission, in addition to contact routes of transmission

Maybe that will drive home the message to 'its no worse than flu' brigade?

For those asking about Big Bang fair at The NEC, It’s now cancelled

it’s now cancelled

Reastie · 06/03/2020 13:52

Some supermarket bigwig has said matt Hancock has totally made up what he said last night about govt working with supermarkets to ensure supplies. Been no such contact.

BBC news reporting at lunch that when Matt Hancock said this last night 2 supermarket chiefs have confirmed they had not been contacted at that time by the govt. apparently this morning defra have been in contact but not to discuss getting supermarket shopping deliveries to those self isolating, which he claimed had happened.

KenAdams · 06/03/2020 13:52

Still catching up from the previous threads, but for those of you who I've discussed the Big Bang Fair with, I've had an email to say that it has been cancelled.

Well the cabin crew cases kind of imply that travel restrictions are a bit overdue - if there was ONE THING that could have been done a month ago, it was this....... if they have been working then how many plane loads of people will have to be traced?
