So far the fear hasn’t really set in me yet, but today it has and I’m thinking what do I need to go what do I need to get in

Should I be scrubbing the house to working an inch of its life ?

Should I be boil washing the bedding ?

Going into London at the weekend and again in two weeks
Have tickets for thjngs and I’m thinking should I be cancelling ?

I know we should all be washing hands more frequently

Should I be buying certain cleaning products

Also will the schools be shutting ?

StealthPolarBear · 05/03/2020 18:13

I don't think it lives on surfaces very long.
I don't think any brand of cleaning product is specially recommended.
Buy tissues, keep washing your hands and take sensible precautions. If your hobby is licking the poles on the tube, maybe don't for a while.

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:13

Stealth I’ve really started worrying about it all today 😰😰

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:14

Do you think the schools will be closing ?

OP posts:
Gamble66 · 05/03/2020 18:14

It can live on hard surfaces for 72 hours, wash hands a lot, dont touch your face if possible x

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:14

I don’t understand why the government are allowing flights to and from Italy and China

The trouble is that no one seems to know the answers to your questions.

I'm hand washing, carrying my own soap and handcream (the frequent washing gives me a rash) and we have stocked up in case of having to isolate.

I'm a teacher and am worried about my school closing. My DH works with colleagues who travel all over the UK and the world so it could spread to his organization. But who knows!

StealthPolarBear · 05/03/2020 18:18

Sorry I don't mean to be flippant. It needs a balance doesn't it.

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:19

Can you catch it twice ?

Do you think the schools should close ?

dementedma · 05/03/2020 18:20

I'm mildly worried as am asthmatic. Carrying water and handwash in the car as cant get gel anywhere, washing hands more. Not much else i can do

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:21

Stealth I know your not flippant

No, I am not 'shitting myself' over it.

Have bought cat food and cat litter and an extra pack of loo rolls.

Proceeding as normal. DH is Head in a secondary school- worrying about the GCSEs and A level students. Have 3 DC, 6m, almost 3y and 5y. I am SAHM and would be here to look after them if school/nursery closed.

We are handwashing.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/03/2020 18:22

Oh god please can these these threads go in the Coronavirus section
Please

devildeepbluesea · 05/03/2020 18:23

No, not shitting myself and haven't panic bought anything.

I'm in the happy position of my family not having underlying health conditions though.

tiredanddangerous · 05/03/2020 18:23

There is a whole separate place for Coronavirus threads which I have hidden because I’m sick of seeing this shit.

AuntieMarys · 05/03/2020 18:23

No change to our lives here. No cancellation of any events, no more toilet rolls being bought and no anti bac stuff either. Not that there is any apparently.

ByeMF · 05/03/2020 18:23

Any soap will kill it. Washing up liquid will kill it. You don't need to scrub your house. Unless you're in at at risk group enjoy your weekend away
Having some essentials in is just common sense.

AStarSoBright · 05/03/2020 18:23

I don't think schools should close. There's no need for that to happen. I'm not worried, I'm not stockpiling, I already wash my hands regularly and properly, I've bought no sanitiser and I'm not changing my plans or routine until I'm told I have to.
The lack of information is spreading fear but I really think people are, currently, worrying unnecessarily- and I speak as a parent whose child had swine flu.

Bezalelle · 05/03/2020 18:24

I'm actually not shitting myself, and maybe I should be, because I'm pregnant.

It just all seems to have been blown wildly out of proportion.

Deelish75 · 05/03/2020 18:25

I don’t think you can catch it twice as you will have built up antibodies to it like we do with the flu BUT I remember there being a ? over someone in China or Japan catching it again. It was in the British news (Sky I think) that this person was undergoing testing but never found out the outcome so presuming this person DIDN’T have it for the second time but I really don’t know.

mbosnz · 05/03/2020 18:25

I'm moderately concerned.

First fatality in the UK is at a hospital my DD attends regularly. It's not a critical thing she attends it for, so I'm thinking we might be knocking that on the head!

Handwashing, definitely. But I'm also doing things like regularly wiping doorhandles, phones, screens and lightswitches, and washing handtowels daily.

I'm also trying to boost everyone's immunity with diet and multi-vitamins.

Going to do a bit of stocking up.

I hope so much the schools don't close, it's oldest DD's GCSE year, and she's worked so hard for it.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 05/03/2020 18:25

I'm not doing a great deal. Our garage is always pretty well stocked because I love Costco, our DC are generally fit and well aside from the 9 year old having asthma and aside from washing our hands frequently and practising good hygiene there's little we can do except hope for the best.

I travel often with work across Europe. I've taken two flights this week and am due on two more next week. I'm probably going to come into contact with it at some point, all I can do is make sure I don't contaminate vulnerable people if I can help it.

crapette · 05/03/2020 18:25

Maybe read some of the the trillion threads in the actual Coronavirus topic.
