So far the fear hasn’t really set in me yet, but today it has and I’m thinking what do I need to go what do I need to get in

Should I be scrubbing the house to working an inch of its life ?

Should I be boil washing the bedding ?

Going into London at the weekend and again in two weeks
Have tickets for thjngs and I’m thinking should I be cancelling ?

I know we should all be washing hands more frequently

Should I be buying certain cleaning products

Of course not - a total over-reaction.

There is a Coronavirus Board, perhaps you could ask MNHQ to move your thread. It would be nice to keep all the hysterics in one place.

Egghead68 · 05/03/2020 18:28

You can catch it twice. There was a case in the news.

TotesGodsWill · 05/03/2020 18:30

Ffs the bbc have a guide to all the questions you’re asking, and they’ve been asked on here a billion times already.

If you care so much then try doing a teeny tiny bit of research yourself. It’s on the front page of bbc news and no doubt every other news outlet not like it’s hidden away!

rosie1959 · 05/03/2020 18:31

I usually have a reasonable stock of food and cannot see any reason to buy extra If we are unfortunate enough to have to isolate then sure friends family will get anything we need from the shops
Panic is pointless it’s one of these things in life that you have no control over
I continue to wash frequently but there has to be all sense and reason

I can’t help roll my eyes at these posts. The hysteria Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 05/03/2020 18:33

From what i can gather as long as you bulk buy pasta/loo roll/paracetamol and tinned tomatoes then you don't need to worry.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/03/2020 18:34

Yes Sparkling
The antiviral properties of multipacks of toilet roll and pasta are scientifically proven
HmmGrin

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:34

washing hand towels daily is a good one, I wouldn’t have thought of that, perhaps I should just make sure the house is given an extra good clean, stock up the cupboards and freezer and that might make me feel less stressed

Hmm
Thefaceofboe · 05/03/2020 18:38

@Lardlizard if your hand towels have coronavirus germs on them surely someone has already got it in your house for it to be transferred to them?

kitk · 05/03/2020 18:40

Watch the videos on YouTube about effective hand washing, sneeze into tissues or your elbow, bin and then wash your hands and teach your kids to do same. Worry about what's inder your control- the above- and not about things you can't effect like elderly relatives.

I've filled the freezer with 2 week's worth of food just in case and found all of DD's home learning books in case schools close. Beyond that...

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:44

Home learning books is also going on my list

We are worried. But DS has underlying health issues.

Practically we've tightened up Handwashing, esp before meals and upon reentering the house.

I have stocked up on tissues, bleach, loo roll, tinned tomatoes, pasta and rice.

Im not pulling him out of school yet. But its on my mind as a possibility.

Weve still booked a uk trip in Easter holidays, although its cancel-able if needed

angell84 · 05/03/2020 18:47

I am not worried at all.

I am, however, highly suspicious of the media.

If there was a mass outbreak, wouldn't the natural thing to do - would be to keep fear down, and release health information on how to prevent infection.

How the media are acting is very strange. They seem to be detemined to whip up mass fear in the public.

Who does that benefit? The "news" that we get is filtered through human beings. We see things as they tell us to see them. And right now they want us to be in a mass of fear and panic for some reason.

Question what you are told.

Lardlizard · 05/03/2020 18:49

Angel that could be part of to what’s got to me, the news coverage

eaglejulesk · 05/03/2020 19:04

As I sit at my computer I have just heard a news item that most people who get the virus will have symptoms of a cold or mild 'flu, and some will have no symptoms at all. I realise it will be different for the elderly and people with low immunity, but I think the reaction of everyone else is totally OTT.

eaglejulesk · 05/03/2020 19:06

Forgot to say, I am not in the UK

cocomelon23 · 05/03/2020 19:07

HmmHmmHmm

Nursing83 · 05/03/2020 19:07

The panic is the governments idea so that we actually listen to the advice I would imagine. If they said dont worry probably only 2 in 100 will die and everyone else will be fine then people wouldn't take self isolation seriously and they'd be popping out to walk the dog or nipping to the supermarket for essentials.

The NHS is already stretched if 20% of people need hospitalization the NHS will not cope the government want people to take it seriously. If only 5000 people get it in the UK that means 1000 people may need to be hospitalized, there are definitely not 1000 spare beds in the UK. They'll cancel all surgery including cancer and more people will die

Bunnyfuller · 05/03/2020 19:08

I heard today the virus can live up to 72 hrs on things like handles, surfaces etc. Less on soft furnishings.

I have heart disease and damage to 2 areas of the heart. Don’t feel scared but a bit incredulous that this is actually happening. I thought Brexit was enough thank you very much!

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 19:13

Work colleagues were having a good old chuckle about a "paranoid " colleague until I reminded them he had Type2 Diabetes.

MrsLCohen · 05/03/2020 19:14

I would probably set to with daily house cleaning, it may take your mind off it.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/03/2020 19:27

Nope, not shittin’ myself either. Normal shopping and carrying on. I am however awaiting the young uns at work ‘phoning in sick’ as I overheard them planning it.
