So far the fear hasn’t really set in me yet, but today it has and I’m thinking what do I need to go what do I need to get in

Should I be scrubbing the house to working an inch of its life ?

Should I be boil washing the bedding ?

Going into London at the weekend and again in two weeks
Have tickets for thjngs and I’m thinking should I be cancelling ?

I know we should all be washing hands more frequently

Should I be buying certain cleaning products

As I sit at my computer I have just heard a news item that most people who get the virus will have symptoms of a cold or mil

Oh no, whose MIL will we have symptoms of? GrinGrin

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2020 19:34

Not worried at all and sick of hearing about it. Thousands of people die from flu, TB etc etc. Bit no one bothers about that.

PollyPocketLucyLocket · 05/03/2020 19:39

No, I am not shitting myself and I'm doing nothing to "prepare". I wash my hands regularly as I normally do and am being sensible about hygiene. Thats it. I dont see the point of getting into a panic- its not going to achieve anything.

Echobelly · 05/03/2020 19:45

I'm a bit anxious about the effects and inconvenience, I'm not scared of getting it and luckily don't really have to be scared of anyone getting it in our household.

A little anxious as I've had an intermittent temperature since last night (just in evenings and night) not as high as a fever - yet. Again, having it wouldn't be bad but honestly the timing would be awful - I'd miss doing a big concert solo and a party for my parents if I have to self-isolate, and have problems with a new au pair supposed to start at the end of the weekend. Looked up NHS advice and it still says that fever is more likely to be something other than C19. Luckily I had planned to work at home today anyway and will do so again tomorrow and see how it goes. I presume at this stage they won't test people for it unless they have had contact with a sufferer or come from an affected country recently. Cos I could really do with ruling it out!

If you stop reading the news you will probably feel a lot calmer and happier.

mbosnz · 05/03/2020 19:57

I think for me, having already lived through a state of national emergency, when supply lines were cut, and health services in the region were pushed beyond capacity, I tend not to be entirely sanguine.

A family member who was a police officer, was seconded to the area at time (every other public service was also pushed beyond capacity) said that what they'd learned was that they had planned for best case scenario, and that sometimes that wasn't good enough, sometimes it was worst case scenario.

So I'm trying to 1. not overreact, 2. hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 05/03/2020 20:47

I am watching with interest and shopping a day earlier. I’m notoriously bad when it comes to shopping. I tend to buy things as they are running out or just after they’ve run out so I figured by bringing shopping forwards by a day or two each week it would be sensible.

angell84 · 05/03/2020 20:54

It is still a very, very small amount of deaths.

People die alot more from nearly every other illness.

I don't know why the media is trying to scare everyone

KenDodd · 05/03/2020 21:52

Ok, probably not what you wanted to hear but I've actually started death planning. Grin

I've looked at both mine and my husband's wills and tidied some papers up. It's always worth doing this stuff CV has just given me a little nudge. I know my mum doesn't have a will, she's 80 and in a much more vulnerable group than me, I couldn't suggest such a thing to her unfortunately, it's far too insensitive.

My biggest fear is that both me and my husband die because we have nobody, really, nobody, no siblings, no cousins who could have our children.

KenDodd · 05/03/2020 21:56

Imo there will actually be a LOT of deaths from this (thank God not children though). Just look at the contagion and mortality rates.

Hiddenfigurines · 05/03/2020 21:57

To be honest the corona virus is so far down my list of priorities I can’t believe how much panic there is over it.
Just carrying on as normal

Hiddenfigurines · 05/03/2020 21:58

I’m more panicked because I heard about a shortage of chocolate due to faulty machinery in the mars factory

WomanIsTaken · 05/03/2020 22:14

I find it interesting how differently people read the news. I briefly check updates first thing alongside general news every morning, and have not found anyghing that has given me cause for great concern. I am a teacher, so wash my hands a lot anyway, curse under my breath at the huge number of children who are sent into school every week with temperatures, dosed up on Calpol, noses like taps and rattling coughs, feeling so miserable, but only because I don't want their colds and I can see them suffering. Not worried about coronavirus yet, despite cases having been identified in our region.

Echobelly · 06/03/2020 08:04

I'm mostly like @WomanIsTaken - I check just the BBC (because it sticks to the meaningful stuff) in case there are any pertinent announcements about government advice, but I'm ignoring sensationalist headlines in paper because most of those are just taking the absolute worst-case scenario and projecting as though that is what will happen.

I've calmed down a bit about how I'm feeling - I definitely have a mild virus of some kind right now but it's extremely unlikely to be Covid! I slept a bit better last night and it's not getting any worse.
