With Crufts you can imagine with that many people and the demographic being older there will usually be people needing medical care for MI, stroke, respiratory difficulties falls and 'funny turns'. When this inevitably happens surrounding people will get spooked I'm sure.

My dh is flying to US tomorrow for work-9 day trip-big international convention.

I just want it to be cancelled so we are all together as the numbers grow. DS at uni and would hate for him to be ill away from home.

fromdownwest · 05/03/2020 12:01

Thoughts on the if the London and Manchester Marathons will be cancelled?

TokyoSushi · 05/03/2020 12:02

Sticks head above the parapet

I am still going to Crufts on Saturday. I've decided that I'm going to carry on as usual until told otherwise.

On the plus side, I'll be able to tell all of you what it was like!

TokyoSushi · 05/03/2020 12:03

Just to add that I fall into the under 40 (for a few weeks), fit and well category.

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 12:03

HoC is packed like sardines when they're are there and I'm sure there's plenty of spittle and hot humid mouth air wafting around.

MarshaBradyo · 05/03/2020 12:04

On the previous point of two strains and aggressive strain reducing, I wonder what is in Italy and Iran.

MC50 · 05/03/2020 12:05

@Bercows - Here is Dr. Campbell’s latest video. I suggest everyone watch it until the end even though the good Dr. says not to if you only want news, because it helps you understand more about the virus

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 12:06

Tokyo

Although you may not get infected or be very ill even if you do

Don't you worry that you will be spreading it to vulnerable relatives and friends or indeed strangers?

Or just being part of an event which may hike the world wide numbers when everyone returns to base?

Genuine question, not trying to be arsy it comes naturally Wink

Spacecadetagain · 05/03/2020 12:07

@Peridot1 yes I was sent vitamins and also Copious amounts of chocolate ! Plus two lovely MNers even came to see me with food for my freezer as my now xh was being an absolute cockwomble and refused to take any time off work or help at all with the DCs of which one was just a baby . So if it was you that sent them .. thank you ! I used to be a mod on here years ago until the GF thing . Reflecting on how I’ll I was back then this virus sends a shiver down me and I was younger and fitter then and it still completely floored me

LarkDescending · 05/03/2020 12:07

80% infected was the “reasonable worst case” assumption contained in a National Security Communications Team briefing document leaked to the press on or around 26 February and given lots of publicity as a result. The DHSC was asked about it, and did not dispute that it was genuine.

Watching Matt Hancock live, saying schools to stay open, so I expect they'll all be shut by Monday

woodencoffeetable · 05/03/2020 12:08

I’m awaiting our school newsletter it’s late today and school have nearly 60 pupils off on a residential next week. Wish govt would ban them now. Seems crazy to have “pointless” travel.

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 12:12

I'm no fan of Hancock but wouldn't be in his shoes for anything.

HasaDigaEebowai · 05/03/2020 12:14

I've had various clients asking about their liability if they send reluctant staff away on trips and the staff member gets ill today.

sewingsinger · 05/03/2020 12:14

The economic hit of cancelling events like Crufts and Cheltenham are too great given we are in 'early stages'. The message is that the risk is with the individual - if you don't feel comfortable don't go. This is also why they are not saying don't travel to countries have outbreaks. It means insurance will have to pay out. Eventually however they will have to do this. My DDs school have said that if there is a case they will close for 2 days for a deep clean and then re-open, I guess this will change if government recommendations change. The government won't do anything until they absolutely have to.

MurrayTheMonk · 05/03/2020 12:14

I've just asked my manager what the contingency plan is for our residential care homes if a lot of the staff are off sick.

He said 'let's hope that doesn't happen'

I've no idea who would look after my residents if a large number of my team were out sick at once. We can't get enough staff as it is.

My service users are physically and mentally disabled, and don't have the capacity or physical ability to look after themselves in any way. Most don't have families or anyone who could step up.

It's really concerning.

Alone07 · 05/03/2020 12:15

Do you think the school will get closed in the near future?

Imonlydoingwhatican · 05/03/2020 12:15

Been watching the threads from the start.

My son(Autistic) was due to do work experience tomorrow hes told them hes not going due to using public transport, i have said as long as hes sensible he will be ok bit his mind is made up.

My dd school have cancelled a trip to london in a few weeks times, which im glad about as wouldnt have sent her in that day.

My husband is on another site (conspiracy site mostly bs) but they are good at digging out stuff its been going since the very start of this. Some of it is quite worrying. Im planning on keeping my distance not for my self, but for my kids and the wider community my sister is pregnant and works in a dementia care home so dont want to pass it on. So not going out as often.
The numbers will jump significantly today.😳

HasaDigaEebowai · 05/03/2020 12:15

My DCs school basically said "go away we are not telling you anything and we will just follow government guidelines". I am not even vaguely impressed given the vast amounts of money I give them.

HasaDigaEebowai · 05/03/2020 12:16

For clarification - I mean there that they do actually have the ability to go over and above the bare minimum in terms of measures they take etc since its an independent.
