Corona Virus Isolation - Anyone else?

We are on day 4 of isolation. We can't be the only ones?

We are awaiting the results of a swab as a DC went to Northern Italy with the school during half term. Said DC is bouncing around very very healthy, and the rest of the DC are constantly squabbling (apart from when they are on screens).

Luckily we have enough food and supplies, just running low on sanity.

Anyone out there?

Dd2 was tested a few days ago. She's still coughing and has a sore throat. Results tomorrow which will be negative... I'm sure we'd have heard by now if it was positive. You can leave the house though. The rest of us have carried on with normal lives.
Dd2 will have a few more days off as she can't go back until no symptoms.

Well the mother from Venice came in again to the hospital reception and her daughter was allowed out with her. Of course she may have not brought it from Venice with her, who knows as yet.Worrying all the same!

Catalanplayer, why do you think the result will be negative if she is coughing and has a sore throat? Wasn't she in an 'at risk' area, such as Northern Italy? I think a lot of people have been caught out by the long incubation period. So the rest of your family going out and potentially infecting others (only if she was in a high risk area) might be unwise, no??

A couple of others have tested negative from her school. I'm sure we'd have heard if it was a positive as it was done Wednesday evening. We've been told by Dr on 111 and nurse who did the test that the rest of us can carry on with our lives.

What's the point of confining one member of the household but allowing the others to come and go as they please?

By the time she showed symptoms we'd been all over the place. Work, school, son back to uni. She is keeping mainly to her own room.

Fingers-crossed that she doesn't have it. If she did, the advice that you received to all carry on as usual would be bizarre at best.

We were told that because 1 of the household needed to be tested then all the household needed to isolate.

Clearly DC hasn't got it, as feeling very healthy now - the most healthy she has been for months. But so frustrating waiting for the results. No one can return to work or school until we have a clear test result.

The info from NHS 111 is very inconsistent unfortunately. They seem to say 1 thing and other people at the hospital etc another.

In the meantime keeping everyone home is a nightmare. I'd thought I would be able to watch loads of Netflix and Declutter the house. In reality I'm too busy trying to clear up one meal before the next one, referree fights, separate the kids, walk the dog while no one is around and trying to fit in a bit of freelance work.

The bonus is no school run so don't have to get up at 6am.

Anyone found any other unexpected bonuses?

We've been fortunate and had the same advice from all sources - NHS 111, hospital and school/local authority. The bit I don't understand is that she has to stay away from school until all symptoms have gone even with a negative result. It sounds like she has a cough that could go on for ages!

Very similar here, my OH went to northern Italy for a few hours and had a day of flu like symptoms and now just a cough. Quite enjoying isolation tbh, obviously I’m allowed out so have been getting supplies and we’ve deep cleaned the house, baked and made some lovely meals. Results tomorrow hopefully, and then continue isolation until symptoms clear

I’ve looked at this as my husband travels quite a bit for work and I was wondering what we would do if he goes accidentally to an area and then has to self isolate. As far as I can see the advice is that everyone else in the household can just exist totally normally although trying to keep away from the “isolated” person (how I do not know!) and the whole family only has to isolate if the person has symptoms.

So isolation as advised to most is BS. If you're living with someone being tested, obviously with the assumption they may return a positive swab- the rest of the family have now spread it around the whole town by going about normal life. May as well not bother isolating the person being swabbed under those circumstances really.

I think if you’re living with someone who actually has been exposed or has symptoms it’s different, then the whole family would have to isolate. But if it’s just someone who has been to a risky area, then it’s only the person.

My sister was told she couldn’t be at work as she went to Venice in half term but hasn’t been swabbed. Is this something she should chase up?

I was in Asda today and a girl walked past me talking loudly on the phone.. the conversation was like this, 'we might have it. We have all been near him'

So seems like she's talking of the corona virus and what I don't understand is if she's been in contact with someone with the corona virus then she shouldn't be walking around Asda, she should be getting advice and staying at home!!!

I thought it was most contagious once symptoms begin and this is the main way it spreads so family members of an isolated person would be fairly safe going about their business so long as they weren't showing any symptoms of illness, then if they did show signs they would also self-isolate.

We don't meet the criteria for a test or isolation, but we have been in Korea so we have made a personal choice to avoid close contact with people. I haven't seen my dad in a year and now I'm in the UK but will only meet up with him outdoors. It's a cold and miserable experience.

If you do develop symptoms and call 111, what happens? Do they show up to your house in hazmat suits?

I thought this was because the person who had been to the risky area was supposed to be self isolated within the home. EG confined to one room, using a separate bathroom or only using the bathroom after everyone else and wiping down after themselves. All of which doesn't work with children.

But in most homes, that's not going to work is it? Very few people have the space to isolate a single member of the family in that way. And like you say, it doesn't work with children either.

Surely if one member of the family needs to isolate, then everyone else should have to as well, otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose.

We have quite a reasonably sized house but I think even we would struggle to isolate one of us within it. We only have one kitchen after all. One of us could have the bedroom with the en suite but it’s not like they can stay there all the time, for two weeks.

Equally, I suppose the idea is that it’s better than nothing and that if they say that the whole family has to isolate, then people won’t at all, and then it’s more likely to spread.

This is only if people don’t have symptoms - once someone does have symptoms then the whole family would have to isolate as they would have been exposed to a sick person.
