Corona Virus Isolation - Anyone else?

Sticki · 01/03/2020 11:58

We are on day 4 of isolation. We can't be the only ones?

We are awaiting the results of a swab as a DC went to Northern Italy with the school during half term. Said DC is bouncing around very very healthy, and the rest of the DC are constantly squabbling (apart from when they are on screens).

Luckily we have enough food and supplies, just running low on sanity.

Anyone out there?

If people are still going out and about it makes isolation somewhat pointless. Slightly better than the possibly infected person going out, but really?! Unless you have completely separate areas in the house.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/03/2020 07:25

It's quite dismaying that people really dont understand the concept of self-isolation.

That one person needs to be separate from other people in the house, eg in a bedroom. They dont use the kitchen; you take food to them. If there's only one bathroom, they use it after you and clean it after themselves. Rubbish is double-bagged.

It's not self-isolation if you're mixing and one of you is walking the dog. If your house set-up means you cant keep one person separate, then you all self-isolate.

See in our advice over here (Australia) the advice isn’t nearly as onerous as that. Thank goodness!

RedTigerBalm · 04/03/2020 12:38

I was tested after showing symptoms coming back from N Italy. I had to self isolate, but was told by 111 and infection control nurse at hospital when tested that my family ( who also travelled) did not need to unless they too showed symptoms.

adayatthebeach · 04/03/2020 13:00

Can someone put the link to the nurse Campbell that does the daily utube updates? Thanks!

I am wondering about this as DS is in SE Asia ( not any of the current hot spots) due to return in May. If he has to self isolate, which by then he may well have to, even if not showing symptoms, then we’ll all have to do it as there’s no way his severely autistic brother is going to obey hygiene or social distancing rules.

Bunnyfuller · 04/03/2020 17:18

Let’s be realistic - self-isolation is now just an attempt to slow it down. It’s coming whether we like it or not.

I thought the carnage of Brexit was enough history to live through! It would appear not.

How long is it taking to get the results back? A friend is self isolating but she is a single parent so it isn't easy. 111 have said her children can still go to school if not displaying symptoms.

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2020 18:09

Dd in isolation here and ds not allowed in school so I'm stuck at home too.
Tested Sunday and no results yet!

ragged · 04/03/2020 18:13

Gosh, why 3+ days to get results?

mondaynoon · 04/03/2020 18:14

My friend was told it would be 72 hours but she still hasn't heard.

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2020 18:17

mondaynoon when was she tested?
ragged I assume that it is because of the volume of people but I may be wrong.
We are going bonkers here.
Been stuck in for 6 days.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/03/2020 18:22

We were told that because 1 of the household needed to be tested then all the household needed to isolate.

What I don’t understand is if they do this then why not make close work colleagues self isolate as well. So someone I know spends 8 hours a day in a small room with someone who has now been told to self isolate due to contact with a confirmed case. But the colleague is told to continue as normal!

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2020 19:18

Its like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted I fear

catanplayer · 04/03/2020 19:54

Dd2 was tested a week ago and we're still waiting for the results.

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2020 20:22

You're joking @catanplayer! Where in the country are you?

catanplayer · 04/03/2020 20:24

SE England. Passed from GP to hospital and back again. No one knows anything. Last entry on record says swabs taken.

mondaynoon · 04/03/2020 20:28

Why are 111 telling some people that the whole family need to self isolate and telling others that other members of the family can carry on as normal? It also assumes that everyone lives in a house with other adults who could look after children but many people don't.

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2020 20:53

@catanplayer are you like is told not to contact anyone they will contact you?

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2020 20:53

Like us!

catanplayer · 04/03/2020 21:12

We were told to ring GP for results. Nurse told us that and is written in an information sheet given to us. They have nothing and keep telling me to ring the hospital. Tried ringing hospital, but we went to a pod for the test not a department so no clue where to ask!

catanplayer · 04/03/2020 21:14

If 2 weeks passes and we have no results I assume she just goes back to school? Does anyone know? She's still coughing at the moment, so strictly speaking even if a negative she'd have to be off.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/03/2020 21:32

I read two accounts of people who had to self-isolate - one was a Chinese man who did have it, and the other was a Scottish woman who didn’t as it turned out. (The man’s story was in the Guardian at the weekend, the woman was a reporter for STV.)

Both were confined to one room, and only had contact with others through doors - the guy spoke about his gran bringing food on a tray, with disposable chopsticks, left outside his bedroom. He had his own bathroom en suite. The woman was able to go in her garden with the dog, but spoke about chatting with her husband on WhatsApp, who was in the next room. I don’t think her loo situation was mentioned, or if it was I can’t remember.

We could have separate bedrooms here, but only one bathroom.

bumblingbovine49 · 04/03/2020 22:06

We only have one bathroom but we have a chemical camping toilet in the loft. I:ve worked out we could isolate one person in the biggest bedroom ( not that big though) with a camping loo..so have a bucket with a lid so washing could be done in that . Pour some bleach in the used water and then pour it away . Maybe only wash every other day . Not a great existence and only works if only one person is infected so.woils.only do.this if the person is showing symptoms and has tested positive
