Would you cope with quarantine?

Just that really, if we were all told to stay home and self quarantine for two weeks, how would you and your family cope?

DD would be fine as long as she had her tablet
I would be fine for a few days but would start to get stir crazy after that
Would probably have enough food to last 2 weeks - might just be plain pasta and rice by the end, but we would survive.

I'm sure I'd cope. Although at some point I'd probably start skyping loads of people. Grin

DS would be fine, I'm sure.

bellinisurge · 26/02/2020 08:58

@pourmeanotherglass , I'm sure you can but I'm not sure why people think delivery drivers are immune from either the virus or things like school closures. Where are these spare delivery drivers going to come from?

OwlFox · 26/02/2020 09:01

I would love it, ut I am a self confessed introvert. I am actually taking March off work and only plan to leave the house for a week in the south of England. I CAN'T wait 🤗

I am really not concerned about quarantine or the coronovirus with regards to me but my elderly mother (with a respiratory disease) I am. She still works in a very public facing job.

woodencoffeetable · 26/02/2020 09:04

we would be fine - but we are not in the uk.
we would receive full pay from employer and our jobs are protected in such cases. plus we could work from home.
food would be another thing as supermarket deliveries are not common

JaneJeffer · 26/02/2020 09:05

Surely it'd be just like Christmas? Everyone stuck inside getting on each other's nerves, eating out of boredom and watching crap telly. Might even put up a tree to give that festive feeling.

Blackandgreenteas · 26/02/2020 09:05

Yeah I think we’d be ok! It’s the illness I’d rather not get but quarantine would be ok.

Blobby10 · 26/02/2020 09:10

I live on my own most of the time and don't have a huge amount of food in the house. I'd be OK for the first few days but would find it difficult to not have daily fruit and veg. I'd be alright for loo roll as thats bizarrely one thing I always have plenty of!

Would the quarantine mean not going out for walks across deserted fields too? Surely if you don't come into contact with anyone else then this would be safe?

fairydustandpixies · 26/02/2020 09:11

@HisValentine - are you okay??

QuizzlyBear · 26/02/2020 09:12

I had the most restful fortnight of my adult life when I was diagnosed with Swine Flu years ago. Had to stay quarantined in bed, kids couldn't come in my room, meals brought up...

I finished off about 20 books and a fair few box sets - if it weren't for the whole 'feeling ill' bit, I'd do it monthly. 😁😉

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 26/02/2020 09:14

The problem is the dog walking. Luckily, we live 5 minutes from the beach and on the walk down there hardly ever meet anybody, so I guess we would be able to continue doing this as long as we didn't stop to talk to ANYBODY!

StormGerda · 26/02/2020 09:15

That is a really long time @HisValentine - are you okay?

Cremebrule · 26/02/2020 09:19

If it was sunny we’d be fine as we’ve got a big garden. If it was bad weather we’d drive each other potty and my 3 year old would go demented without the social interaction of her friends.

GameSetMatch · 26/02/2020 09:20

No definitely not, the kids need a good run around everyday or they drive me crazy, I’m not a lover of the TV being on so I think we would struggle to find things to do after about day 3, there’s only so much play doh you can play with. I pretty much only buy for the week so we would run out of food very quickly.

sashh · 26/02/2020 09:22

I'd be fine, I'm off to get my nails done in 1/2 an hour, that will be 3 weeks since my last appointment which was when I last left the house.

MozzchopsThirty · 26/02/2020 09:27

Oh god I'm positively waiting for it
Long lie ins
Netflix
Takeaway deliveries
Stockpile cupboard food

I would welcome 2 weeks off

HoneyBee03 · 26/02/2020 09:27

I would hate it, but surely you'd need to visit the shops to buy food? I also live very rurally so would probably head out for a few walks where there aren't many people.

Elllicam · 26/02/2020 09:30

We would be ok, I have full food cupboards and a chest freezer. We would be bored but survive.

Nowayorhighway · 26/02/2020 09:31

Sounds hideous, I’d hate it. I’ve been trapped indoors for the past two days bar a quick trip to the hospital with 8 year old DD who has bacterial tonsillitis. It’s been pretty shit, I can’t wait to have some fresh air. We have Netflix, WiFi, prime etc for entertainment and the DC have their consoles and pads. I’m not sure they’d be too bothered but I would be! I appreciate fresh air.

We don’t stockpile food either so that would be a struggle, I suspect we’d be surviving on rice...

Lipperfromchipper · 26/02/2020 09:32

All these ppl looking for food delivery’s and take always!! 🤣🤣 I think of everyone is in quarantine then that will not be happening!! Let’s get stashing and stocking up the larders!!

VenusOfWillendorf · 26/02/2020 09:33

I think there's a huge difference between the current advice to self -quarentine, which only affects a small number of people and you can still get deliveries etc. and a complete shut-down.
The self-quarantine thing as currently being described, would be fine. A complete shut-down would be awful - empty supermarkets due to stockpiling of food and essentials, no rubbish collections, not being able to see a doctor for non-emergencies (would something like a broken arm be considered an emergency?) etc.
Very different scenarios.

diddl · 26/02/2020 09:33

Well I could occupy myself well enough with tv & reading, but I'm used to walking the dog three times a day & going for a bike ride so would certainly miss that!

NerrSnerr · 26/02/2020 09:35

My children would drive me bonkers. I have plenty of neighbours who would go to the shops for us though.

I'd be able to do some work from home but not a whole fortnight's worth but suspect I'd be off with full pay.

HoneyBee03 · 26/02/2020 09:35

I was thinking that surely food wouldn't be delivered, or if it was then everyone would have the same idea and you'd struggle to organise it. There is no way I could keep my toddler in the house for 2 weeks, so we'd be out and about for sure (just try not to get close to anyone).

Damntheman · 26/02/2020 09:37

I could do it if it was just me, or if it was just me and DH, but having the kids housebound for 2 weeks is nightmare fuel. I can barely make it through one day if they haven't been able to get outside!

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/02/2020 09:37

I'm agoraphobic so I would be fine. My husband and son would do insane from the lack of exercise.
