Would you cope with quarantine?

Just that really, if we were all told to stay home and self quarantine for two weeks, how would you and your family cope?

DD would be fine as long as she had her tablet
I would be fine for a few days but would start to get stir crazy after that
Would probably have enough food to last 2 weeks - might just be plain pasta and rice by the end, but we would survive.

I would love it if I was in my own.

If I was stuck in the house or a hotel room with the rest of the family I would be climbing the walls after about 2 hours.

bellinisurge · 26/02/2020 07:30

Luckily @Megan2018 Ocado staff are immune to coronovirus as are their children and everyone that goes to their children's schools. So Ocado delivery driver system will be fully staffed.... no wait ...

Megan2018 · 26/02/2020 07:38

@bellinisurge calm down love. Not everyone is going to get it. It’s not the apocalypse.
One if my colleagues is in self-quarantine right now as back from the affected part of Italy. You are being very dramatic

kateandme · 26/02/2020 07:38

would yo u have knock back locally/friends etc from people being wary of you if they found out?

Skyejuly · 26/02/2020 07:40

Yes with my supply of teabags and milk (uht but better than none)
Got enough to entertain kids but they would be bored no doubt.

Could we still use gardens? I would go stircrwzy but have all I need.

Skyejuly · 26/02/2020 07:41

In a hotel I would be going MAD.

dudsville · 26/02/2020 07:42

I don't have children, and I'm an introvert. It would be bliss.

RaininSummer · 26/02/2020 07:43

Apart from stressing about no pay for 2 weeks I would love it. My partner would go mad though within 4 hours.

unexpectedthird · 26/02/2020 07:43

We'd be OK, but I do need to make sure there is more milk in the freezer. Otherwise, the freezer is pretty full and I keep enough stuff to make bread etc anyway in case the road is closed.
We live very rurally and nobody delivers food here. It's a 50 min round trip to the nearest corner shop so we need to have a decent contingency stock anyway.

The plus side of that is that we'd not be stuck indoors and could all get out for plenty walks. The kids could still be out playing lots. Well, as long as it stops constantly raining.😂

Tumbleweed101 · 26/02/2020 07:47

So long as still got paid and could get into the garden I’d be fine for two weeks. Be quite nice not having to rush anywhere!

LakieLady · 26/02/2020 07:48

Now that I've seen we can get stuff delivered, we'd be fine. I'd be ordering from Waterstones every other day though.

DP might get a bit bored, because he's not much of a reader, but he'd probably be happy just snoozing or surfing the net.

I suppose we could have lots of sex, too. Grin

If there were no deliveries, we'd start to run out of stuff in a couple of days, we're out of chocolate atm, which is deemed a crisis by DP.

ohnooutofdateham · 26/02/2020 07:52

Yes, it's coming into spring and we've got a big, enclosed garden.
Our cupboards and freezer are full but can get a delivery to be left at the front door anyway.
My 3yo might get a bit fed up but would probably enjoy having DH and I around all day for 2 weeks.

Lipperfromchipper · 26/02/2020 07:55

Are they allowed out into the garden?? If so we would be totally fine, we have our own woods with treehouse and play area so we would have plenty to do!!

couchlover · 26/02/2020 07:59

We haven't enough food in but other than that yes we could cope being house bound I think.

ohnooutofdateham · 26/02/2020 07:59

@Lipperfromchipper I don't see why not.

BiddyPop · 26/02/2020 08:01

Oh yes. I have a load of tidying and decluttering to do. I have a large stack of unread books. I have a serious stash of fabric, wool and card making materials that I never get time to use anymore and lots of ideas for projects. Plenty of paperwork that needs doing for sailing club and Cubs. Baking for fun, as well as time to cook properly for a change. As well as the usual tv, board games, internet and chatting on phone to family/friends.

Unfortunately I also have the ability to work remotely so I would probably work mostly as normal and just get a couple of extra hours on home stuff.

VenusOfWillendorf · 26/02/2020 08:01

I think I'd be fine - probably get a bit lonely after a few days, as I live by myself but can always chat on the phone.
I wouldn't like to use 2 weeks of my holidays to just be at home, but luckily I can work from home and would do that. I've also stocked up on loo roll and tea bags.
Other that that - I've got Netflix and lots of books to read on the kindle. I have loads of yarn and knitting projects. I can go out on the balcony for fresh air and could do a few exercise DVDs. I'd miss going out for a walk and meeting friends for a chat, but would be fine for a couple of weeks.
I would HATE to be stuck in a hotel/on a ship for 14 days - even with netflix/kindle. I would just want to be at home. Being stuck somewhere because you have to stay there is not at all the same as being on holidays in that same place.

KatherineJaneway · 26/02/2020 08:05

I'd be fine as long as my WiFi was working. Food can be delivered and left outside, I could work from home and I have so many jobs at home I keep putting off that I could do, books to read, TV to catch up on etc.

Lipperfromchipper · 26/02/2020 08:10

We would be fine I think, between the garden and the woods the dc would be entertained as we could find a project to work on to keep us entertained and moving. Then there’s the usual Netflix, arts and crafts, colouring etc etc.

Whatafustercluck · 26/02/2020 08:12

I'd struggle I think. When I broke my ankle last year there was a period when I really struggled to go anywhere or do anything because I had a cast on. It was miserable. Dh had to do all the childminder drop offs and pick ups, all the shopping, everything as well as working ft. I hate having no independence and being so reliant on others.

I also don't see the point in self-isolating if other members of your household go about their normal lives. And if they don't, I couldn't bear having no escape from everyone.

Jenasaurus · 26/02/2020 08:14

As long as enough toilet rolls and pasta etc plus inhalers and medication. I think yes 2 weeks is manageable. A good supply of reading material, Netflix and off course mumsnet

nervousinterviewee · 26/02/2020 08:16

Space wise and as long as we could get groceries delivered, we would be ok. Mentally I think cabin fever would kick in quite quickly with some of us so as long as we could go in the garden, we would manage.

I can't imagine how the people on the cruise have been coping in a space smaller than most of my rooms, cramped up, sleeping on top of one another and with timed sessions outside, staying within prescribed distances from other people.

SusanneLinder · 26/02/2020 08:41

I'd be fine, so would DH. DD would be awful if she couldn't see her bf/friends for 2 weeks. I can work from home and would spend my time dealing with all those jobs that need done. Netflix and books. Dogs would go stir crazy though. We have a garden, but cooped up there would drive them mad. Two of mine need a good 10 min run and walked. Our garden isn't big enough for that.

WhatHaveIFound · 26/02/2020 08:45

We'd be fine so long as I could have shopping delivered first as we don't have enough milk to last 2 weeks.

Entertainment wise we have plenty of books, Lego, TV/DVDs. Plus i have a treadmill so i could still get some exercise. DS could easily spend all the time gaming!

pourmeanotherglass · 26/02/2020 08:49

Would be fine I think, though I'd get stir crazy! Can you order a food delivery to be left outside the front door if you're self isolating? I've probably got enough food to last 2 weeks in the cupboards, but meals would get a bit odd in the second week, and we would run out of loo roll.
