Conflict in the Middle East

Is the penny finally starting to drop about anti semitism and hate marches?

I think we are now seeing the cumulative impact of the anti senitism that has built up over the last 3 years where there has been a permissive environment with politicians hesitant to intervene in events in the streets that have incubated anti Jew sentiment.

All political parties apart from the hate apologist Greens are now waking up to the fact we need better policing and perhaps legislation. I for one will acting a vote for a party that recognises hate marches for what they are and also willing to tackle the vile posts appearing on social media (and Labour have reacted too late too little). Enough is enough for a Jewish community that lives in perpetual fear.

‘A test of our values’: Starmer to call for whole-society response to rising antisemitism

PM will say responsibility to stand with Jewish communities lies with ‘every one of us’ at event on Tuesday

Getting outraged about something you have just made up @Stirabout ?

In this case that Noble is trying to shut down discussion.

The only thing we don’t seem to agree on is whether actions of AIPAC are worth further scrutiny then - or is that just an argument you don’t want to engage with?

I literally don't care, couldn't give a toss. I'm on a thread about antisemitism in the UK because I am interested in discussing that.

noblegiraffe · 21/05/2026 22:23

Stirabout · 21/05/2026 22:17

You see again

Are you trying shut down discussion on here by suggesting posters are
antisemitic and Nazis ???

That’s appalling !

And
If a poster makes an antisemitic remark report it.

I note their posts have not been removed…. So clearly the concern and comments are valid
I Agree with @Islandsofsand s concerns and we are very much not alone in that

You really can't follow what I'm saying at all, can you?

Islandsofsand · 21/05/2026 22:23

Twiglets1 · 21/05/2026 22:04

Why? All I said is that he is possibly saying the right things about antisemitism for political reasons. How can anyone know his private thoughts? The same is true of Keir Starmer or since you mention him, Andy Burnham.

We don’t know their private thoughts & I don’t even care as long as they are saying the right things because the effect will be the same.

It is hard to find a politician that seems to speak with passion and genuine sincerity. Somehow I don’t doubt Khan’s motives. But I can understand why you might, as the marches have been going on for so long and with the continued use of hate language.

However- Khan doesn’t make the laws and it is the CPS who decides what should lead to prosecution. Khan can’t also ban the marches it seems.

Fair enough. It is a bit of a deviation.

No of course he can’t & no one suggested he could.

Islandsofsand · 21/05/2026 22:33

So what can be done to reduce the impact of the marches and antisemitism if mayors can’t ban the marches and can’t decide what counts as illegal hate speech worth arrests and prosecution?

I go back to the need for interfaith work and understanding concerns on all sides.

Do people think that is worth pursuing?

Of course
Its the only way

Id also advocate for less Religious schools and more monitoring

I would never shut down free speech and peoples right to demonstrate.

I would want to see no caveats or special provisions, that are not in line with U.K. laws, just because of people’s beliefs.

That’s all a big ask and a long road but worth it

Ellen2shoes · 21/05/2026 23:23

There are many reasons cited as to why the government shut down theatres in 1642. One is that they mirrored too accurately the nature of society at the time, so inciting civil unrest. I know this may seem an odd parallel but the many accusations of the marches as performative made me think of it.

Rather than shutting the marches down (by this I mean any that might be deemed islamophobic or anti semitic) surely there can be a way 400 years later to try to understand them better by viewing them as a true reflection of our society, and working to combat the basic machinations that drive division and hate - the cause rather than the symptoms?

Unlike many, it seems.

“Jews control the world”

FFS.

What on earth are you talking about @noblegiraffe?
Who said 'jews control the world' about from you?!

Your comment is offensive and a totally inaccurate accusation. As @BelleHathor has explained the 'jewish lobby' in the US, including US citizens such as billionaire, Miriam Adelson, are well known to be extremely influential politically. Why don't you research this instead of throwing around accusations and inventing things which were not said not implied.

Thank you to @BelleHathor @FloralDeerPattern and @Stirabout for defending my comment and intention.

Accusing Noble of trying to shut down discussion when they were in the middle of a discussion - and then getting faux outraged by it - is what you did.

Tip: no one is trying to shut down discussion.

The thread is about antisemitism & hate marches. We can all read the title.

How do you know that @Stirabout's outrage is 'faux'? There is no need to be so rude.
Noble is trying to shut down discussion by flinging untrue accusations around.
Discussing anti semitism and other forms of racism is fine.
More than one poster has made unpleasant, personal remarks on here and that is not fine.

I'm not going to ask for all these posts to be deleted as I think they should stand as a record.

dairydebris · 22/05/2026 07:07

I think education on the use of tropes and how they are harmful would be useful.

Interfaith dialogue? Nah. The peaceful ones are already doing it. The fighty ones, both Jewish and Muslim don't care and won't be persuaded by a nice chat and a cup of tea.

Education.

It’s faux because it was manufactured. There was nothing to be outraged about because Nobel was not trying to shut down discussion but contributing to discussion.

I stand by what I said.

Antisemites use the words Jewish Lobby in order to suggest disproportionate Jewish influence around the world and to invoke the antisemitic trope that Jews secretly rule the world.

I posted a link to the Wikipedia article extensively discussing this, and I posted a recent picture of Neo-Nazis holding a banner saying "Abolish the Jewish Lobby" to back this up.

You did not use 'Jewish Lobby' in a restricted, US sense, but extended it to governments around the world.

I can believe that you did not realise that what you said was antisemitic, and I can post you links to other people apologising for using it in that way because they didn't realise it was antisemitic
e.g. https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/un-official-criticised-over-historic-jewish-lobby-comments/ Or see the picture.

Now that you know that it is antisemitic to assert that the "Jewish Lobby" has undue influence on governments around the world, will you stop using it?

Is the penny finally starting to drop about anti semitism and hate marches?

That's your own opinion. Clearly, others, including @Stirabout have different opinions. That's the point of these discussion threads.

You are conflating two different things @noblegiraffe. Contect is everything

I'm sure you are right that there have been posts such as you describe, using totally inappropriate imagery.
That is not what I was doing and what I said was factual and not antisemitic. As I said, so some research. The wonderful and incredibly learned John Mearsheimer wrote a book about the 'Jewish lobby's' influence on US politics 20 years ago. He's no anti semite. The general population in the US have recently started to understand this. Thomas Massie alluded to this in his speech recently. Are they all anti semitic for recognising facts and being brave enough to state them openly?
