Conflict in the Middle East

Trump is desperate. How can he resolve the Iran shitshow?

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2026 00:32

He is flailing, desperate and increasingly unhinged. Weakening the USA, alienating allies and strengthening the enemies of democracy with every step.

How can he fix this?
Can he fix it at all?

He's going to end with a terrible 'deal' that will cost the entire world that he will nonetheless claim as a victory, despite the fact he fucked everything up in her first place by starting this.

lol gaslighting at its finest... YOU made the link to to buying a house....

Your opinion "the start of negotiations" hasn't aged well.

As you said "You aren't an expert negotiator" 😂

Have negotiations finished? If not then the first set of talks was indeed the start of negotiation.

Come back to me at the end of the war and we can discuss what Iran has gained & lost from the war. And the US if you like.

Can you tell me when the next round of talks are planned for?

Both sides are miles apart and the Iranians are in no hurry to negotiate, the delays play into their hands... oil price goes up, world economy plunges, more gulf states turn against the USA...

Blockading Hormuz just adds to the pressures on oil prices, lets see what China has to say about stopping Tankers they have booked and paid for results in? perhaps Chinese warships escorting them through?

Yes, sure, i'm v confident that Iran and its awful regime will be in power long after Trump has moved on to screwing up something else or better still, no longer with us.

Am sure negotiations will roll around again in due course, might be awhile though, since there's bound to be a lot of bombing and threats once again before we get to that. Look at the Ukraine-Russia war - several rounds of negotations so far over the course of 4-plus years of fighting. I mean, just read through some of the wiki post on the negotiations, it's pretty bleak! If you look at the differences between the two countries, it's quite extreme, just as the current Iran-US-Israel positions are. Yet negotiations do take place every so often.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_negotiations_in_the_Russo-Ukrainian_war_(2022%E2%80%93present)

Of course there are major differences between these 2 wars, but still, when countries have such extreme differences in what they want, it's going to take a lot of talking to get anywhere, unless one side or other admits defeat.

After almost burning up my one brain cell reviewing the events of deletiongate, I've emailed MN to ask how they handle reported posts and decide on deletions.

I’m sure we’ll find out in time when the next round of talks are planned.

I don't think Trump posting this on his social media will help solve the shitshow he created.

I am sure folk can explain how this helps. I can't see how myself, but it might all pop into place if someone can tell us what it all means.

Did Trump post this?
It's sick and extremely offensive to Christians. What a big man trolling the Pope, he really does believe he's God.

Mediators will continue talks with the U.S. and Iran in the coming days in an effort to bridge the remaining gaps and reach a deal.

All parties still believe a deal is possible.

Iran has threatened to close Bab el-Mandeb, the gateway to the Red Sea, in response to the US blockade, Fox reports. This would be carried out by its proxies, the Houthis.

In the meantime, this on CNN in the last hour. It looks as if any mention of Lebanon is off the agenda with Iran, because it rather looks like Israel are there to stay. I wonder what will happen to the million or so people displaced ?

"Netanyahu speaks of “solid, deeper security zone” in Lebanon one day before direct talks

By Eugenia Yosef and Oren Liebermann
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke of a “solid, deeper security zone” held by Israel inside southern Lebanon one day before the two countries are set to begin direct talks in the US.
“We are not talking about five points,” Netanyahu said at the government meeting on Monday in reference to a series of locations inside Lebanon that Israel has held since a ceasefire agreement in November 2024. “We are talking about a solid, deeper security zone that both prevents the danger of invasion and distances the anti-tank threat.”
Netanyahu did not say how long Israel intends to occupy the territory – or whether it would be indefinite – nor did he say what could happen to the land in negotiations. Over the weekend, Netanyahu said he had personally approved the direct talks between Israel and Lebanon. He said any agreement would require the disarmament of Hezbollah and it would have to be a peace agreement “that will endure for generations.”
The long-time Israeli leader also said that he supports US President Donald Trump’s naval blockade of Iran. Netanyahu said US Vice President JD Vance called from his return flight from Pakistan and vowed that, in any agreement, Iran would have to give up its enriched uranium and forego further enrichment."

I can't remember the number. It looks like they want to keep south of the Litani river, and I recall that's about a million. I expect the other displaced will be able to go back after the bombing stops ?

He is worse than a radicalised teenager seeking attention on social media. The difference being that he is allowed to incite hate, violence and racism without any consequences.

That gave me a heart attack re timing , but when I checked, it was mentioned seven days ago. Phew! I thought it was in response to what Net was saying that Iran had to give in on all uranium demands.

If the chokepoint were shut, along with the Strait of Hormuz, a quarter of the world's energy supply would be blocked.

From what I can figure out, the UN sanctions do not cover the oil itself.

They still have those useful terrorist proxies at their beck and call, ever ready to serve their masters in the Iranian regime. I wouldn't be sorry to see the back.if The Houthis, Hezbollah and Hamas (not sure hiw many are left).

UK says Lebanon has to be included. It appears only Trump and Netanyahu disagree? From CNN :

"The United Kingdom is calling for Lebanon to be “included urgently” in the current ceasefire between the United States, Israel and Iran, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said today, also condemning Israel’s continued attacks on the country.
“Whilst the ceasefire between the US, Israel and Iran is undeniably welcome, it is also highly fragile. The region remains on edge, and a lot of work is required to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to de-escalate the situation, leading to a sustainable ceasefire,” Starmer said at the House of Commons.
The prime minister also said that, while the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah “must disarm,” he is “equally clear” that Israel’s strikes on the country “are wrong.”
“They are having devastating humanitarian consequences and pushing Lebanon into a crisis. The bombing should stop now,” Starmer said.
Referencing US President Donald Trump’s threat last week that “a whole civilization will die” if Iran did not agree to a deal, Starmer said that Trump’s language was “wrong.”
“A threat to Iranian civilians in that way is wrong. These are civilians, let’s remember, who suffered immeasurable harm by the regime in Iran for many, many, long years,” he said.
Starmer also discussed the Strait of Hormuz, which is still effectively closed by Iran, saying that “freedom of navigation is vital and must be restored.”
Separately today, Britain’s defense ministry said that it had deployed military planners to US Central Command to “explore options for making the Strait of Hormuz accessible and safe once hostilities have ceased.”"

Twiglets1 · 13/04/2026 17:25

Keir Starmer updated MPs on the situation in the Middle East. Here's a quick rundown of what he said:

The US-Iran ceasefire agreement was "undeniably welcome", but Lebanon must be included under the terms

He hoped negotiations would continue without further escalations, including in the Strait of Hormuz - a "running sore", which has been "shamefully exploited" by Iran

The impact of Iran's behaviour was causing "untold" economic damage, visible "on every petrol court in the country"

Businesses in the energy, shipping, insurance and finance sectors told him that vessels would not travel through the strait "until it is safe to do so"

Dozens of countries will convene a summit later this week on the situation in the vital waterway

It will focus diplomatic efforts towards a negotiated end to the conflict and reopening the strait, and military planning to "provide assurance for shipping" at that point

Thank goodness @RedTagAlan that the Lebanese that are being murdered daily (and the illegal land grab) are being referenced by someone in a position of authority because they seem to be forgotten about in the context of this conflict.

Agree. Trump can't ignore it. It has to be part of the conversation with Iran.
