Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

This thread is NOT about Gaza except that hopefully the regime that finances Hamas etc will be brought down. Please take your anti Israel rhetoric elsewhere.

Thank you @HappyFace2025 the thread is not about Gaza but about Iran.

Plenty of other threads about Gaza.

The author seems to think that because Iran have said they're not a threat to the world then we should believe them.

There's a few thousand protesters who might have disagreed with that argument if they hadn't been murdered since the start of this year

Is that all you took from the article. The consequences of this are going to be seismic.

A few weeks ago I saw Iranians on twitter sharing messages that the regime line would be that Israel is attacking schools and children, there were videos of basjis moving equipment into schools etc. not sure how reliable that is, but it’s very hamasy so….

As to those in the west who are objecting to this, most of them are disgusting little tankies who subscribe to a third worldist ideology. They literally don’t care about the consequences for anyone living under any of these dictatorships, they can just pretend that the regimes are “anti-imperialist”. The idea of thinking that Iran and Russia are anti-imperialist is utterly laughable. These people are either misinformed, stupid or literally immoral.

Hoping for freedom and safety for the Iranian people and good on the Israelis for being happy to take the hit to get this shit done.

Indeed. Those useful (to regimes and terrorists) idiots can't help themselves.

I know.. Iranian women could be days away from not having to cover their hair in public for the first time in nearly 50 years. Gay men might not have to choose between execution or being forcibly 'transitioned'. And we might be soon living in a world in which people who want to kill us won't have any access to nuclear bombs

From your lips to god's ears.
I hope this happens. But I am doubtful.

That would be good, I’m sure the pp agrees.

What about Israel’s genocide in Gaza? (International Court of Justice confirmed it is a genocide). Would you agree then that other countries should launch strikes on Israel to stop their genocide in Gaza?

Please don't spread misinformation.

"As of early 2026, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has not made a final ruling confirming that genocide has been committed by Israel in Gaza"

Apologies for derail - although there's a small connection there. The case was brought by South African's ANC government, funded by none other than the IRGC.

The Iranian people should be able to determine their own future. Will it happen this time, I'm also doubtful.

The ICJ hasn't said it's genocide and it's so boring to go over this same stuff that has been refuted multiple times already on this board.

For anyone who wants to read what was actually said and to hopefully stop more derailment of this thread about Iran, here's a BBC link. Pay particular attention to the sentence: In April, however, Joan Donoghue, the president of the ICJ at the time of that ruling, said in a BBC interview that this was not what the court had ruled.

How many times do you expect diplomacy to win through? It is the ordinary folk in Iran who have been asking for help for weeks now after thousands of people have been killed by the regime.

Who are the ordinary folk in Iran though?. Isn't it likely that a power vacuum, just as in Syria, will just create another grab for power by interested groups? I laugh sadly when people say the "people " will be able to take over. Its never ever like that.

Why does it make you laugh?
Don't you think that there are groups who have been actively planning regime change? Those who have lived there and been terrorised for years? Opposition groups who have been planning over the last few months?

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/02/2026 18:35

Not that I'm cynical or anything but I'm a bit worried that the regime will go, be replaced by the Shah in waiting, who'll promise elections really, really soon. And then ...

No, I said sadly laugh as in I have seen this all before and I am sad to see it again . It has been played out before but most recently in Syria.

It's realistic to be a bit cynical I think.

But even if the Shah in waiting did take over (and that situation sounds far from ideal) ... I just think it must be better than the current regime where Iranians are being ruled by violent religious extremists. Surely?

Oh absolutely. I'm just not sure there'll be full democracy straight away.

@OrangeAxolotyl when was this? Their hypocrisy is so frustrating! A lot of people I know are like this and I wonder if I’m missing a big piece of the puzzle?

Now Iran have retaliated and a bomb has hit a 5 star hotel in Dubai. Not exactly a military base. Will this just mean things escalate even quicker?

Dubai's Burj Khalifa tower (tallest building in the world) missed being hit by a missle by a whisker. Can you imagine if that was hit?
