“Israel’s war in Gaza has led to a 41% fall in births in the territory and high numbers of maternal deaths, miscarriages, newborn mortality and premature births, two reports on the impact of the conflict on pregnant women, babies and maternity care reveal.
Two reports by Physicians for Human Rights, in collaboration with the Global Human Rights Clinic at the University of Chicago Law School, and Physicians for Human Rights–Israel (PHRI) document how the war has led to high figures for maternal and neonatal mortality and forced births in dangerous conditions and systematically dismantled health services – consequences of “a deliberate intention of preventing births among Palestinians, meeting the legal criteria of the genocide convention,” researchers said.

Yes there is.
No it doesn’t sound true. It’s very difficult to believe. No one wants this to be true so acknowledging that it’s actually happening is a start.

So you acknowledge it doesn’t sound true and facts on the ground don’t back it up, but you want us to agree it’s actually happening? What’s the evidence to say that it is and how have the 60k+ babies/toddlers born in Gaza to starving mothers since 2023 managed if formula milk is ‘difficult’ to get into Gaza do you think?

I’m sure birth rates in conflict zones around the world are down and the situation for pregnant women in these zones is dire. Good of the Guardian to focus on just the one place.

Honestly disgusted at this. And almost as disgusted at those who prefer to spread propaganda and deny it's happening.

For Shame, is that the first thing that comes to mind, not how this situation can be improved?

GENEVA, Nov 11 (Reuters) - UNICEF said on Tuesday essential items including syringes to vaccinate children and bottles for baby formula are being denied entry into Gaza by Israel, preventing aid agencies from reaching those in need in the war-devastated territory.

From November 25 also :

“Unicef said more humanitarian aid is getting into Gaza, but some critical items continued to be denied entry by Israeli authorities, including 938,000 bottles of ready-to-use infant formula and spare parts for water trucks.
“That’s nearly one million bottles that could be reaching children who have been suffering from different levels of malnutrition,” Pires told a news briefing in Geneva.”

The Israeli government is making sure that no Palestinians survive. What do you think of this?

ExerciseIsGoodForYou · 18/01/2026 00:21

That article is from July. Powdered milk being removed from personal luggage that is not for personal use is hardly evidence that Israel has blocked baby formula being taken into Gaza. Tins of powder substance being taken through an airport by someone without a baby in somewhere like Israel with the person travelling through to Gaza could certainly conceivably be deemed a security hazard.

Really now. If that’s the case, why do you think they are taking so long about it and allowing Trump to set up an interim government in Gaza? How does that make sense? This hysterical delusion is off the scale quite frankly and it doesn’t help Palestinians to whip up more frenzied hate against Israel, which some may take as carte blanche to attack Jewish people as has already happened. The Israeli Government are not going to back down from getting rid of Hamas due to that.

This thread is talking about the actions of the Israeli government not Jewish people. Many Jewish people recognise the actions of the Israeli government for what they are, and oppose them

Neither Trump nor Israel should be deciding the future of the Palestinian people

Deny away but the facts are there. Mountains of antibiotics, deliberately wasted, wheelchairs, crutches and oxygen tanks deliberately withheld. Mobile maternity units held back and all manner of ‘dual use’ medical care confiscated

Israel hasn’t published its dual use list? Why??
Because it doesn’t have one. If it did, it would expose its genocidal intent.

Disgusting that you are aligning the actions of the Israeli government with Jewish people. Do you know how many Jewish people are horrified by what Israel is doing?

Tell me then what was the reason for the attack of the Manchester synagogue and the Bondi beach massacre along with all the other attacks on Jews around the world since Oct 7th? Why has the WMP chief just been forced into retirement after falsifying intelligence to depict Israeli football fans as a safety threat when the threat was actually to them? Misinformation and false propaganda spread by people like you maybe? Shocking but unsurprising that you can’t see that.

I am sorry but while I recognise the awfulness of any anti semetic attacks I do not see the relevance of you bringing the topic up on a thread discussing the treatment of pregnant Palestinian women by the Israeli government
Valid criticism of the Israel government does not equal antisemitism
aligning the actions of the Israeli government with all Jews is both inaccurate and dangerous

OP posts:
Twiglets1 · 18/01/2026 01:47

When people focus on the Israel government to an unhealthy degree and have nothing to say about other governments under the spotlight - the Iranian government for example - that’s antisemitism.

It’s true that valid criticism of the Israel government does not necessarily equal antisemitism. But singling them out exclusively for criticism does.
